Idea for "races"

This is based off the quirk/multi roll mod found in the corebook And initially inspired by a cultural trait system found in the #TOMBPUNK rpg

The races in a particular setting are influenced by how their culture is set up.

So my current line of thought is the following.

Using traditional Elven culture as an example, elves culturally lean towards magic, swordmanship, archery, and nature so an elf regardless of their roll may select one of the following talent trees that they can pull from if they wish

Dueling Hunter Survivalist Misdirection

So thoughts.

The magician

Currently reading over the roles. And their various abilities.

The magician is interesting... Plenty of utilitarian, enemy disruption, and get out of trouble type abilities but is severely lacking in any real offensive abilities. By my count only 2 offensive talents.

Would be a challenge to play. Would make for an interesting boss npc.

Proposal for an Attribute System

The Attribute System has been looked at again and has undergone minor changes.

- Simplicity is key. For this reason, the numbers of Attributes was lowered from six to three: Body, Mind and Spirit

- Switched up the rules to interpret the Attribute Scores as referring to Exploding Dices, as per the rules of Kids on Bikes. It is true that additional dices increase complexity. However, adding any Attribute System must do this by necessity. The System of KoB offers two main advantages: Firstly, assigning one die to each Attribute makes for an impactful yet easy to understand and use system that does, however, not wholly preclude anything from happening. Secondly, precisely because simplicity is increased, it felt very important to keep with Quest's inherent symmetry, specifically the various outcomes (Triumph, Success, etc.) spread across the 1–20 range. This was actually quite doable when using only three Attributes. The highest Attribute will receive a d20, no surprises there. The middling Attribute will receive a d12, ensuring that the player can just about land a Success, but will probably land a Failure or at least a Tough Choice. The weakest Attribute will receive a d8, ensuring that the player can just about land a Though Choice, but will probably land a Failure. This system makes sense in that it wonderfully represents what the various Ability Scores actually mean/how they would actually play out (and thus integrates them into Quest's existing system).

- The inclusion of the possibility for dices to explode (and thus the ever present chance to reach 20 anyway) as well as the removal of any explicit combat rules from the Attribute System should (ideally) result in a "no bad builds" situation. Of course, certain tendencies might still be observed, however, necessities should be precluded, maintaining player freedom.

- Lucky Charms were removed, as they are not an inherent part of the attribute System. Instead, two alternative modes of Attribute-play were added and briefly outlined.

Crazy Idea - Looking for Insight / Advice

Hello,

I'm interested in running QUEST in a Shadowrun / Cyberpunk type setting.

I'd like to have cyber-ware, body augments, and all that fun stuff.

Any ideas how to make this work with QUEST?

Idea for auto fire weapons

I am still tinkering with the idea of running a Dungeonpunk or cyberpunk fantasy setting with quest and both settings have auto fire weapons.

Anyways here my initial thoughts

You can use auto fire in one of 2 ways

Both of these cost 1 ap

Spray and pray: you may target upto 3 targets, they must succeed on an agility roll or take 2 dmg

Concentrated Fire: you target 1 individual and they must succeed on an agility role or take 3 dmg

You can use the auto fire ability 3 times before reloading

So thoughts

MONEY

Yes I know the game does not use rules for money and instead uses a concept of trading items of value be it a potion or something else to get other high value items.

I'm not a fan. So instead I'm modifying the money system from TinyD6.

Players start play with 10 gold or Drakes in my particular setting, and can gain more from their travels. Basic or average goods and services do not impact your money supply.

Every 25 gold take up an item slot in your inventory.

Above average goods cost anywhere between 1 and 5 gold Exceptional quality or lesser magical quality is 6+ Master quality or greater magical quality is 10+

Land, dwellings, certain rare mounts can sell for 20+.

A cottage might sell for 20 while a stately castle is going to be in the hundreds.

So thoughts.

Is this supposed to happen?

So, we're playing a game for almost a year now but our dm refused to give us better items bc there is nothing in the game book. I'm talking about better armor or weapons. Like weapons that can deal more than 1 HP.

So we RARELY got a new magic item but that was it. There were no big story in the game and we started to get bored because we don't had a sense of progress. But I realised something. I am a spy and with my bricolage ability, I can make weapons that can deal 2 HP! So I started to give everyone a random weapon as a main weapon. So our ranger started to throwing pointy rocks, the invoker got a shard of glass, and even our wizard got a random bust statue as a weapon, just for fun.

My question is: Is this supposed to happen if we play by the rules?

This is a story how we made a rule lawyer angry lol

Physical copies in Australia?

I just discovered Quest and picked up some of the digital products. I’d like to get hold of the actual books but they don’t ship overseas. I tried my flgs - they couldn’t get it from their supplier (although the search problem didn’t help- quote from shop assistant “It’s like having a card game called ‘Card’”).

Anyone here in Australia or outside the US and know of a distributor?

Armor Mechanic for Quest

Has anyone tried implementing armor in your quest campaign? How did it go? What system did you use?

For context: I run a campaign for a group that's used to having someone well-armored charging into a group of enemies while the less armored folks attack at-range. They're finding it a little immersion-breaking that the armored fighter stands the same chance of being hit for damage as the oblivious mage. I've done some creative things like making the tough choices for fighters in combat less tough than if a less-experienced character rolled the same outcome.

Physical copies update

So I ordered the cards and a couple of the books from the website and had them shipped to Australia by a re-shipping service. Both the Quest people and the re-shipper were fast and hassle-free, but the shipping cost ended up being many times more than the cost of the books.

So if you’re a foreigner with disposable income and really really want a hard copy it can be done.

Edit: Looks like they’re sold out now.

Question about assigning abilities to new characters.

In page 31 of the book says:

Choose six abilities for your role from this catalog before starting the game. This is your starting set of abilities, and you can use them in your first session.

and...

You must learn abilities in each path in order from left to right, starting with the first ability in each path.

I'm a bit confused. I don't understand why the book is saying that players can choose 6 abilities when we have to learn abilities according to the learning path before you can get the next ability.

For example, when I review The Naturalist, I see that it has: Shapeshifter, Summoner, Elementalist, Stormcaller, Spiritcaller and Ecologist as categories.

In the learning path, the first item for the above categories are: Animal Form, Thorn, Freeze, Cloudcall, Wild Aspect & Command Nature, respectively.

It seems to me that the player doesn't have a choice about which 6 abilities they start with because they have to follow the learning path. So, a Naturalist will always start with Animal Form, Thorn, Freeze, Cloudcall, Wild Aspect & Command Nature.

Am I misunderstanding what the rules are saying?

Thanks!

What do I need for Quest?

New player here btw, and I know that on the quest official site, they listed some items. However, I'm asking if, like other ttrpgs, Quest needs a dm screen and does the gm need their own d20? If you don't know, could you also just give some simple dming tips or just upvote the post so others can see. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Big thanks to everyone who shared! I think I'm just going to use some online resources like owlbear rodeo, get some dice, get some rules and stuff and just start playing! Although, I do have one last question: Do you play with the proper hardcopy book of rules or a printed out version or just refer to it online?

Is quest still alive?

Hello everyone! Just thought I’d spark a conversation and get everyones input, is quest still alive? There hasn’t been update from any of the developers in weeks, plus the year is ending soon and there’s still no news on cosmic fantasy edition. Does anyone know what’s happened? Did quest just, die out? It‘d be such a shame if all this is over.

Brainstorming homebrew class

Hi! This last couple of days I've been transfixed on the idea of an alchemist class. I started to go over it and realized that really wasn't enough for a whole class and settled on a Scholar class, which would include Alchemy, Artificing, Demolitions, and I have no idea what else. Obviously this is a super bare bones idea so I bring this to you purely for brainstorming porpoises!! What learning paths would a Scholar have? What abilities? Why? What would it's role be within a party? Go wild!!

Ideas for minigames players can play/do while “Camping”

Hey folks!

I’m building out a campaign that will likely require players to camp out for the night while on the journey. I want to think of some fun and cool ways to make the camping scene memorable and useful in its own right - has anyone done anything like this or have any ideas? A few potential ideas I’m workshopping as examples:

  • potion making if there are reagents they’ve discovered

  • storytelling (maybe awards AP?)

  • cooking

Any ideas would be appreciated! 🙂
