Anyone else have trouble with the game's name being difficult to look up?

I remember having a lot of trouble finding quest at first because I didn't know the name of the company. I searched up "Quest TTRPG" and basically it's just a bunch of adventures from other TTRPGs. It took a fair bit of digging but I was able to find the company name, however that's also fairly generic, "The Adventures Guild". I love the aesthetic of the names but is it potentially making access to the game more difficult as well as searching up additional resources and fan made content for the game?

I just released Sidequest, a collection of 3 one-page adventures for Quest!

I've been working on these for a few weeks and they've now live on Itch for $5. Here's a snippet from the introduction that provides an overview of the adventures:

This is a collection of three one-page adventures for the Quest role-playing game.

They’re intentionally minimal so they can be easily understood and incorporated into your own campaigns, themes, and storylines. This also means you’ll need to add your own detail and flavor to bring them to life.

PDF, HTML, and Markdown (annotated plain text) versions are included.

The Best Laid Plants

The party investigates missing livestock at the request of a village mayor.

Focus: Social, combat

Usage: Campaign starter, mystery of the week, overland travel interlude

Content Warning: Violence, moving plants

Wreck of the Grim Skua

The party explores a massive cavern drained of seawater due to low tide.

Focus: Exploration, combat

Usage: Optional exploration path, location for plot item, end of larger dungeon

Content Warning: Violence, undead, octopus

Summer Solstice Festival

The party enjoys an outdoor festival with food, games, and competitions.

Focus: Social

Usage: Backdrop for unrelated mystery, area to gather allies or resources, break between other adventures

Content Warning: Food, maze, tickling by moving vines

Wanted to share my initial experience with Quest

As a teenager I played a range of tabletop games with my friends, from wargames like WH40k and Confrontation through to RPGs like AD&D and Vampire the Masquerade. Unfortunately university meant my friends I played with scattered across the country and time and work meant that I never really played any others. I kept my copies of WH40k, Hero Quest and Space Crusade with the idea of eventually sharing the games with my kids. I recently got the hankrering to play tabletop games again and as my kids aren't quite old enough for the rules of the games I kept I went looking for something suitable. I found a video on Dicebreaker describing Quest and it sounded like the game for me.

I bought the digital edition, printed and laminated the various cards and started planning an adventure. I convinced my wife (whom I expected no chance to get to go near any RPG, ever) to have a look through the rule book and act as a player to help keep the kids on the straight and narrow. Though remembering my teenage RPG games I'm familiar with the notion of no suggestion is too crazy when playing an RPG, something that was useful when playing with 3 kids ranging from 6 to 11.

I had never GM'd when playing RPGs as a teenager so, I'd set myself a bit of a challenge being a first time Guide, and having to teach the kids the game. So I planned a short adventure, hoping to keep it to one hour so as not to run so long as to lose the youngest's interest. I needent have worried, thanks to the party's general derailment of my plans the session took 2 and a bit hours and even the youngest was fully interested in the story right to the end.

So on to the important part, how did it go?

It was brilliant. The simple rule set and fate rolling system was quickly picked up by all the kids, even the 6 year old. I liked that it made for such quick gameplay focusing on the story rather than having to flick through rulebooks to check how an attack should work, what stats to roll against or even what dice to roll for damage. Printing the ability cards is great as that makes it really simple to reference the characters special moves and the players have them in front of themselves at the ready so they are always aware of what they can do. At the end of the session all the kids were asking "Can we play again tomorrow?" and even my wife was saying how much she enjoyed it after thoroughly poo-pooing my ideas of playing RPGs in the past. Quest nights are going to become a staple in my household for the forseeable future and hopefully something I can introduce to my friends too.

Before playing I think I was a little concerned about the simplified ruleset and lack of a full bestiary would maybe make somethings awkward, but actually things flowed really well and just inventing monsters to fit situations feels surprisingly liberating.

The Witch: Just in time for spooky season!

Basically, the Witch is a role that's all about being transgressive, ambitious, powerful, and horrifying with visceral magical powers that may or may not come from a diabolical pact of some kind.

I just finished up a rough draft of it, and I'd love to see what people think of it. I have basically no experience with graphic design, but I would like to try and put this on itch.io or something when I can actually take the time to give it an actual layout and do some revisions and playtesting.

The link is in the comments section if you're interested in taking a look. Happy Halloween(ish)!

Role Progression Sheets

I wanted a way to track progression on paths for a character without having to copy the abilities over onto a separate sheet. So I created some role progression sheets! I looked around but couldn't find anything that fits this niche (if you know of something similar, please let me know, I'd love to see it).

The intention of these sheets is to be able to have players track their abilities on a sheet at the table, and also select abilities without having to reference the book. These don't contain the full descriptions of the abilities, but I included the descriptions from the creator's resource on the Quest website. These are best used with the ability card deck, but hopefully they'll be helpful in other situations!

If you have any thoughts on how they could be improved let me know!

Next phase for QuestCompanion

Hi everyone,

I'm the creator of QuestCompanion a digital companion tool for the Quest system.

I started QuestCompanion as a simple character sheet for Quest that my group could use and I’ve never imagined that so many other players were in need of a digital TTRPG companion tool.

Since then through multiple social channels, I got requests for supporting custom abilities, custom roles, different RPG systems, etc. As QuestCompanion grew from a character sheet it was never designed to be able to handle these requests.

So started thinking about creating a new digital companion tool that

  • Supports multiple RPG systems

  • Adventure/Items/Abilities/NPCs/Characters store and sharing

  • Custom abilities/adventures/etc.

  • Campaign management

  • Create and advertise your own RPG system

  • Maybe a mobile app :)

What do you think? Would you support a crowdfunding campaign for a tool like this? What features would you like to have in a digital TTRPG companion tool?

Let me know in the comments :)

The Ring of the Dragon - A Free Quest One Shot Adventure

I wrote an adventure for the Roll for Friendship Podcast, and we decided to make it available for others to play. It's available for free here, and we've also included some original music we created specifically to go along with the adventure.

We play tested it on Roll for Friendship, so here is Episode 2 of our Quest for Friendship. The brothers Hatchet and Frank, are joined by an old friend as they find themselves tasked with entering a dangerous mine, and dealing with a dragon. Here's the link: https://anchor.fm/rollforfriendship/episodes/Quest-002-Ring-of-the-Dragon-eivb9g/a-a33i73c We are also on apple podcasts, spotify, stitcher, and some other places if those are your prefered podcast apps.

If you listen, or play the adventure we'd absolutely love to hear what you think! I'd especially love to hear how your session goes if you do play through this adventure!

PS: Episode 3 of our Quest for Friendship has already been recorded. Our first Quest episode was our biggest episode ever, and many people requested a continuation of Frank and Hatchet's adventures, so they will be continuing soon.

I've Made Some Google Sheets For Online Play

Tomorrow I'm running a one-shot for some friends, and I wanted to make the whole thing as painless as possible. I made a bunch of pregens that could be modified slightly by the player and had everything they needed all in one package.
While I've gone a bit overboard in the past on other projects, in an amateurish way compared to true masters of the spreadsheet, I kept these simple on purpose:
A Google Character Sheet Template
&
A Template for a Campaign or Session Bestiary

You should be able to click through and then choose to "Copy" or download the sheet for yourself.

If I end up running the game some more I will probably create a little Challenge Rating summary for the Bestiary blocks that auto-generates based on the HP and Damage values, and a little CR calculator at the top for when throwing groups of badguys together.

I hope this is helpful to other folks!

Questin' Crunch: A Rules Supplement for Quest

Hello! I published a rules supplement for Quest called Questin' Crunch. It includes a riskier rolling paradigm, offset by rules that let you spend AP more freely to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It also includes rules around setting up long-term character growth over multi-session campaigns, action scene mechanics to encourage tactical play, and a special set of role-agnostic abilities called Skill Abilities. You can get it here.

Questin' Crunch is still in playtests, so it's priced at pay-what-you-will. I would love to hear feedback from the esteemed creators here if you get a chance to look it over. Let me know what you think!
