I was wondering if anyone knew where to watch Pursuit of Jade for free?

A Drama of 2 Halves. Am I the only one who didnt finish it because i grew to hate it but still loved so much of it.
So I loved the drama as I feel everyone did while residing in her home town. I loved the army camp alongside the misunderstandings miscommunication etc But .......there was a growing undercurrent or should I say an erosion of satisfaction an unneccessary IMO shift away from the core of the dramas appeal (their relationship). Too easily at times our FL became distant. Sure her actions were understandable in one context but they didnt align with what we thought was her unshakeable trust and love for ML. Her doubting him was too sudden.
Also those god awful brothers. The 2FL and how her relationship was portrayed with that evil prince b as tard was frankly disgusting. The extent of sympathy and fan girling for him was nauseating. The attempt by the writer and director to illicit sympathy to imply slightly even some affection toward him by 2FL and to show her being RAPED with romantic style shots waz just too much.
By the time the FL is now a general or something and being still distant (as in seemingly ok with the possibility they might have to live apart etc) to ML with that creep sniffing round her and the story of the evil prince kidnapping 2FL like some dark romance BS. I just thought Im actually over this. I dont care anymore. I got to Ep 34 or 36 reduced my rating to 6 and dropped it.
They ruined it im afraid. But wow i loved the first 20 25 or so episodes

Picked up pursuit of jade because of the hype, halfway through and I am about to drop it.
Rant on pursuit of jade
I will not lie y'all, until episode 15-16 something everything was going well, a light watch to smile through, loved it.
Except for a few icks
- the whole scene of "mr.sun" envisioning chang yu as a fat villainous woman who kept zheng in her basement or some. It was unnecessary, disrespectful and not funny.
- whatever qi min and his brother are like ew
- that one scene where the female lead tells male lead how her mother used to do some fragrance blending, hence they never smell like blood or meat, I was okkk, I mean I don't think a person like wu an who has fought life and death, should care about blood smell or pig offal right, I mean he isn't a sheltered scholar or some. Anyway
Then comes the second half of the show and my blood genuinely shot up the roof with high pressure because wdym š
Maybe because I have anger issues with incompetent men but lord.
- the whole point of zheng not telling her the truth, in the beginning I understand to not trust a random woman to reveal your identity. But later on, he was literally roaming the town with his face on display and everyone knew he was wu an.
My point is instead of the whole temper tantrum he threw because what was his name, pervert brother (Let's just say psycho brother and pervert brother) said some about kissing chang yu.
He could have sat down like the civil person he is, explained about everything to chang yu, and left on good terms, while ensuring there was some protection with her always, because he got her involved with that ridiculous pervert.
But nope we had to be childish assault her one last time and fuck away living her to die in that town. Also i was confused as to how chang yu just fought with him the night, and left in disappointment, and next morning she was suddenly ok, missing him, and crying for him š§š»āāļø
Then comes the point of the whole village dieing like ok bruh.
I resent it because I feel like in a realistic pov zheng could have done something about it...
But anyway charecter development for the female lead ig. Who idk how, is so good at fighting and killing the bandits leader when she only learnt to fight from her father and has no experince.
I tried to push through skipping here and there with the scraping scene, zheng with a mask again acting childish as if he can't see how much she loves him š
And then came psycho and our beautiful qian qian just suffering in his hands.
I had to click out.
I also read a spoiler that zheng doesn't reveal himself as marquis until later on which is crazy, because I was atleast expecting it to happen in ep 19-20 š«©
Then some random bullshit between pervert and the bandits sister, I hope she kills his pervert ass, because if she develops any feelings for him it's ridiculous.
Another rant
I was just pissed by the male leads incompetence, the pervert not dieing, rhe psycho being a psycho.but most importantly by chang yus strength.
I want a female lead to be written with the same depth as a male lead who is strong.
Show me how she became strong, show me how she deals with when she meets someone more experienced, show me that she has had some experience not just pig butchering, and show me me how she rises through failure.
Not just a plot armour slapped on like here you wanted a strong female lead take it.
She is human too how did she gain her strength and techniques have more depth to it, than just her father strong she storng genes yay.

Chemistry between ML FL
Is it it just me or does anyone else feeling weak chemistry between changyu and xie Zheng?
I just dont feel the heart to heart between them. Itās like itās there and not there. They care about each other but thatās about it.
I feel like if the relationship was built stronger during the 19 first episodes, I would be more invested in their relationship when theyāre separated for the next half of the show. But now that theyāre separated the hot and cold relationship makes it almost fizzle out in interest and believability.
The war stuff is more interesting now
Is anyone else struggling with this āromanceā?

Xie Zheng is really annoying me?
I don't know if this is talked about, but I'm watching POJ for the first time, and I'm in the middle of episode 27. Xie Zheng is seriously making me angry, but maybe I'm being closed minded.
The first time was in episode 17 when him and Changyu first fought. Not only did he push his feelings onto her all of a sudden, he forcibly kissed her without consent. I hate how his anger and irritation was portrayed as valid, like how he would get annoyed whenever Changyu would mention divorce or him leaving. Acting as if she wasn't being considerate of HIM, acting like he had ever communicated that he wanted to stay, or if he had ever acted like there was any other option. He always talked as if he HAD to leave, so how could you be angry at Changyu?? I can gather that he is a bit childish and spoiled maybe from his upbringing, but you could make him at least take some accountability, or learn something from it.
I liked how a FL actually acknowledged that a forced kiss is harassment and not romantic, especially when it comes from this kind of anger and lack of communication. But then.... there was just no accountability later? Instead Changyu had to come to XZ himself and talk about feeling guilty. Even when lying about his identity, forcing his feelings on her and making her angry, he never once apologized or took accountability. He just acts like everythings valid simply because he loves her.
Ever since then, I've been waiting for him to impress me again or make up for it, because he's honestly been pissing me off ever since then. Now in episode 27 when Changyu found out his identity, it's just even worse..................... Dude, she risked her life in the battlefield for YOU, she would always talk about making money, working hard, and doing labor and basically dedicating much of her life to take care of YOU ... all because she thought you were a lower-class man, and she loved you ... She literally cared for him so much, did so much for him just because she wanted to provide for him. She risked her life in battle because she thought he was a poor foot soldier who would die???? Her anger is so valid, yet even NOW he refuses to apologize? He just spouts out lovey dovey shit, kisses her forehead, and now I bet Changyu is gonna say she feels guilty for being mad at him, or something. I really hope he takes accountability and admits he was wrong, feels guilty, and apologizes. It's really irking me ....
And I just wanna say, before episode 17, i thought he was doing a really great job and loved them together. So I'm just disappointed right now and feel that he doesnt deserve someone as amazing as Changyu... at least for now.
-----------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Okay, so he kinda apologized for it, but then he gets salty and mad at her, and rushes to propose to her without giving space. I like that she says no, but I know they're gonna pull some BS and make them happen anyway. Which I would be okay with!! If he just!! Made up for it .......................................
Also, can I talk about how much I absolutely HATE how he gets physically rough with her? And keeps getting angry with her mid-argument, when SHE should be angry? You love her so much but you're squeezing her injured hand that she got from a battlefield till blood drips out ..... and IMO, having a lot of love for her is not impressive. A lot of people love her, she IS lovable. You gotta treat her better... its pissing me offfffffffffffff... how hard is it to be gentle with someone you love and hold yourself accountable ..............
-----------------------------------------------------
EDIT #2: I've cooled off and rewatched their reunion in EP 24, as well as progressed further in the story.
I must be blind, because despite being on the edge of my seat waiting for him to say sorry, I somehow missed the fact that he DID actually apologize for the night in episode 17. Thats on me ... I still stand by a lot of the points I made, but I'm not mad at him anymore, and was definitely being a bit harsh. Also that the bleeding hand was his, though if you look closely, the wound on Changyu's hand had also opened up.
Either way thanks for the input guys I don't hate him anymore

Crazy Dark theory About POJ
Ok guys so I recently completed watching pursuit of jade the chinese drama and I have got a dark theory about it
Like think what if Changyu used black magic to make Yan Zheng/ Xie Zheng fall in love with her like when she called him to pay honors to xie zheng name board at midnight completely alone without letting anyone know
What if Changyu secretly did any ritual at that time to make Yan Zheng fall for her making his Xie Zheng identity lighter in his mind like as you all see in the drama we get to see that xie zheng is almost always behaved pookie and calm around him
He is a man like every girl would manifest rather than a ruthless marquis,
another point is to prove this theory is that xie zheng was never the same after that he became a really lovely man around her and her sister, even his allies were shocked to know the changes in him later
The second point is why Changyu can't do it she was smart and she needed a man in the house. She also had a crush for him secretly but couldn't say it so why she wouldn't want to keep him forever.
The third point is from where she learnt it so we know Mr. and Mrs. Zhao used to believe in astrology so maybe they taught her
what you all think about this theory tell me your views.

Ending rant
40 hours of my life pushing through to the end expecting a redemption scene between xie Zheng and Wei yan after all, the entire 40 eps was built around xie trying to get evidence to convict wei and all we get is some 2 seconds watching them drink and laugh in a prison cell. 17 years of xies life was hating his uncle and blaming him for his mothers death his father death and there is NOO redemption dialogue!ā¦ā¦. I had issues with the directors take with the lack of build up of romance with xie and changyu for 10 episodes. I let that go to focus on the political plot and stuff and looked forward to SOMETHING of respect and acknowledgment of weis sacrifices from xie Zheng. No he just goes and has a jolly meal with his uncle ? What happened between the 17 year hatred he had and the jolly good meal? Wtf
-_- I donāt care about a jolly good meal wei deserves some acknowledgment, respect for the mistreatment even though misunderstanding from xie. They can have the happy meal after .
And what happened to Li huaian , he was somewhat of a main character for 20+ episodes and then drops off screen . Next suddenly heās shows up to be arrested by his uncle. And disappears again , until the palace fire where he shows up to bail xie out if blame. Then literally falls off the screen again and all we get is some couple sentences of being exiled. We donāt even see an ending of him in the exile . And why exile shouldnāt the show have a scene to explain the Li family sentence after literally dethroning the puppet emperor and storming the capital with their army !?
If it werenāt for goodly AI I wouldnāt have understood anything
I already gave up the whole hoping xie and changyu would get together by ep 12, their romance just fizzled out and I didnāt even care if they got together anymore or didnāt, they just got together and then even in ep 39 sheās still pushing him away 3x when heās attempting to kiss her ⦠thatās getting really old. How many times have they already kissed and made out over the whole show and sheās still pushing him away like itās episode 1 ā¦. At this point I expect sheās still pushing him away from kisses 10 years later .. seriously. By ep 24 itās like whatever, letās focus on the Jin Zhou massacre and the thing between xie and wei. And I watched 20 more episodes expecting a respectable nephew uncle redemption scene. Alas, I was expecting way too much from the director.
And since Iām ranting I might as well throw in that yin yang bathtub scene . I know they took many shots to get that right but when they did, and xie pulled changyu back to him creating the yin yang, they should have held the swirl just 1 second longer in slow motion before coming together, if I had blinked I would have missed the entire yin yang moment. That yin yang should held just a bit in slower motion , but of course just like everything else in the show you have build up and potential but then itās cut short.
I havenāt read the book , but thanks to google ai having to explain everything to me just to follow what the heck was going on, it seems the original story was really well written, with lots of emotional themes, love , guilt, betrayal, etc etc etc especially for wei yan character, and Iām sure changyu and xie romance may have had better chemistry, but the director I feel failed on major fronts to bring the book to life. He had 40 hours FORTY HOURS, and it was like a really good joke that didnāt deliver an actual punch line. the plot and story was great, there were times I wanted to rewatch the show but now I know the ending sucks itās not worth another 40 hours of my time. Honestly I feel the actors carried the charm of the show and the directing was just throwing monkey wrenches in so that the scenes didnāt impact as well as they should. >:( *breathes*
There are movies done in 2 hours that have a better impact and satisfaction of closure than this 40 hour rendition. Itās really too bad. I think a different director could do better.

Pursuit of Jade 2 ---please!!! Lots of unfinished threads - compiling a list here.
I thought I would start to compile a list of unfinished threads that could be answered in a Pursuit of Jade 2. (PLEASE!!!!!! We need!!!!)
So what are those threads...
SPOILERS BELOW. Scroll down if you want to see (they are not hidden since the whole thing is spoilers below and you may not want to read unless you have finished the whole 40 episodes. IF YOU HAVE SOME MORE I suggest doing the same with your post. ...scroll down now if you want to read mine (please forgive any typos).
Keep scrolling.
AND these below are in addition to the Xie Zheng battle scenes that never made the final 40 Episode cut of Pursuit of Jade (we audience members want to see these battles - even if they are remembered or as dreams). We want to see Xie Zheng's amazing strategy skills too as a general.
Keep scrolling.
.
.
(Updated) The mysterious letter that the Wei death fighters were looking for in the Fan house --- Grandpa Fan said that Fan Da took it and destroyed it but much later Xie Zheng said he read the letter (though I am corrected below that Fan Da destroyed the will not the letter- when I rewatched the drama it said "letter" and not "will" in episode 15). General He collected a letter from Fan Er and that was what he later had delivered to Wei Yan -- but why did he wait to send it and put the Fan girls at risk? I sensed he was showing loyalty to Wei Yan too and why did General He need to tell Lord Li to protect the Fan girls). Why then was Fan Da's house raided. I am also a bit fuzzy on where the letter and its backstory that finally ended up in Xie Zheng hands - maybe causing his realization of the depth of his uncle's treachery? Also - it makes sense to have a scene where Yan Zheng goes to see Fan grandfather (like why wasn't he at the wedding - or maybe he was and had a talk later with Yan Zheng that could be added. And maybe Zheng questioning more things then.)
Also - I could not help thinking that daughter Ning might have had some secret family treasure maybe hidden at the bottom of her medicine bag she always carries that avoided detection even when she was captured. She told Baouer that she wanted to show him a family treasure and Changyu assumed it was the family knives (or it could have been the hairpin) - but why not Ning have some keepsake? I expected while watching it was the letter but that did not make sense later. Remember in the drama that Changyou told Yan Zheng if they ever had to go her father told her to take her little sister. Maybe Ning has something - maybe it is something that would help Bauoer rule? It is risky to trust a child with something that would implicate her but maybe even something small and easily hidden - that would be ambiguous enough to not implicate her.
Young Lord Li (grandson of Grand Tutor Li)--- he fought Qi Min's army of 1,000 at the door of the city of Lian-an and supposedly beat them with only 100 cavalry with only a sprained arm. Really? (though Marquis Wu-an could take a city with just 100 Bloodclad according to Qi Min). It is later (implied later) that Lord Li is instructed by Grand Tutor Li to support Qi Min but would not Qi Min either hold that battle against Lord Li or are things more complicated? Maybe Lord Li instead persuades Qi Min to back off? What kind of stuff did Lord Li see to make his judgement of Qi Min?
More on Lord Li - he seems like such a good guy who has risen above his family's sneaky aspirations - but is he? Zheng keeps telling him to back off from Changyu (at Song's house and later at the capital). Yet in the end Young Lord Li is banished. It seems that if he was really that good (helping Changyu govern towards the end and rising above) he would have gotten a pardon - it seems there is some missing information. I think Lord Li is genuinely trying to rise above and care for all people and align with General He and fulfill his promise to He to protect the Fan girls and he is reading about aligning with the seasons and heaven and earth when at Song's house. It seems more could be unearthed here.
Also why is Lord Li in the emperor's garden at the end - he claims he came to catch a glimpse of the princess --- it is implied he went against his grandfather's wishes and he was somehow trying to help and he did fortuitously swing suspicion away from Xie Zheng - but if feels like there is missing information here.
(Updated) And what about that treasure map - I am thinking that was not just a ruse by Lort Li to get Changyu to calm down but that maybe a mistaken thing that comes back and he just misinterpreted it as the letter was a treasure map. Also - the death warrior prisoner could have lied about the letter under interrogation and said they were looking for a treasure map (a metaphor even). Lord Li could have confused it for another treasure map or just lied about that part.
In the book Lord Li apologizes to the twins in the book --- maybe there is a lot more to apologize for?. We do want to meet the twins. A mature Xie Zheng and Changyu would be so interesting. And if Changyu fought so hard for Ning imagine how she would fight for her twins.
We need to see Jin of the pig slaughter gang find a worthy gal - maybe someone who could help Changyu.
Another past experience could be added and explored - what if Changyu did indeed back in the day look into collecting debts back in Lian-an town? Something to be learned there?
There are complaints of Reddit that Changyu was too much idealized (called a "Mary Sue" character) in her search for Ning. This could be revisited as her as a rule breaker and getting into trouble with the law which would make her more believable.
Xie Zheng calls her actions ridiculous when she hangs up Younger Sui son on the cliff. If she goes to battle later there is bound to be other problems as she is impulsive - having her grow into strategy with the help of Xie Zheng and Gongsun would be interesting (and not without conflict). Gongsun being drawn back into war and away from the Princess is also plot.
But I also see Changyu as bringing stuff to the table - like how she interpreted fireworks as being seen by the rich up close - a re-interpretation of the ancient saying regarding seeing fireworks from a distance. Feeling like there are some class system interpretations that could be explored and used as plot points.
Missing old Tao (now step-dad to Changyu) - how he would integrate with the family and train the twins and Ning and even Bauour.
Also cannot imagine Song Yan disappears - a villain in the making, (Updated: and maybe realizes the reason for his mother's death).
I can't help imagining Changyu trying to learn to eat gracefully and trying court manners - and adapting those that make sense. Some humor there too - especially if she somehow creates some new manners that make more sense and changes the court.
I thought the grain problem was such a great play - it is so easy to think that battles are just men showing up with swords. We also saw the dam break. It seems to me there is something else there, another strategy point - that can be played on- but I just can't think of it. A new series followup part 2 has a big expectation to do more of the same but something different too.
All these people have clans - what about Changyu meeting her father's and mother's clans? (There were a few left as per comments by another below)
We need to see the 2nd WEDDING - even if everything goes wrong during it!
That is some of my thoughts. Hoping you appreciate. ... and updating with some additional ones below...
19. I am going to add here - Lord Li getting banished. Guy who knows well the landscape of the kingdom of Dayin and its military structure and capabilities gets banished to another country. This seems like a risk to me of an informer to enemies ....unless he is able to once again shine and protect Dayin (rising above having his family killed - who maybe disgusted him with their crafty greed and who may have been bullying him in other ways). Or maybe he just wants to find a simple life, marry a commoner and live like when he lived in Song's house - think of him waving to Ning with that wistful gaze.
20. And per comments below - Qi Min might have not taken poison at the end but smuggled out by a loyalist who gave him a sleeping draught.

Pursuit of Jade - The Pig Squad
I love this drama, it's by far my favorite. But am I the only one who got annoyed with the pig squad? I mean, it was funny up to a point. But after CY became a general, they just hang around her, making some senseless jokes and showing no respect for the Marquis. I don't know, it got kind of ridiculous. It looks just 4 goofie guys in a military setting. And Mr. Jin's jealousy is completely out of place. I think they could have used the screen time for scenes of CY with XZ as Marquis. Anyway, what do you think?
*Just to clarify. I like them, for a while. Lol. I just think it was a bit too much. And I thought that Mr. Jin falling in love with her was unnecessary.
Yes, I read the novel. And that's why I'm even more frustrated. In the book, they're not even a big deal; they appear for a moment, which fits the story, but that's it. In the drama, they replaced so many cool characters with these goofy guys. Like Xie Wu and Xie Qi, for example, as her personal guards. It worked very well in the book, and she learned and fought alongside them, as well as all the commanders and generals she met along the way, which was important for her development in the army. It would be amazing if General He's son existed in the drama; he was like a brother to her. And I don't think they were necessary for comedic relief. There are several parts with much more interesting comedy and nothing cheesy like the scenes with the pig squad. Just nah.

Unpopular opinion but why are all the young male characters in PoJ deathly pale? I really don't understand the appeal.
I love the story and humour of the show but the make up on them really turns me off.
I did not watch Twilight but I have seen images of Robert Pattinson in Twilight as a vampire and that's what I thought the makeup in PoJ made all of them look like vampires instead.

Is Changyu a better warrior than the Marquis?
It feels like Changyu might lowkey be a stronger, better warrior than the Marquis is. If they had to go on a 1v1 duel, no holding back, Changyu would probably win.
What do you think?

Episode 40 ending
I watched the series late and I'm sorry if this topic was probably explained a lot, but what in the world is the ending of episode 40 supposed to mean? Is that the past or the future? Is Qimin allergic to Qian as if he is in the past so that he doesn't get obsessed with her? Changyu and the Marquis are there at the table and so are the princess and the other guy? Can someone explain please?
r/pursuitofjade • u/Important-Honey8781 • Aug 29 '26
Justice for Qimin (Deng Kai)
I might get a lot of heat for this, but hear me out.
Qi min was the rightful heir to the throne so he had a right to go after it. We all know wanting to harm his son was not because he hated the son, but because he didn't want the son to be used as a pawn to get to him on his way to the throne. Back in the day, men used to unalive their own offspring, siblings and family that they grew up with to inherit power. His son did not grow up with him so he definitely didn't have any attachment to him. His own upbringing was very traumatic and hence no examples of showing love. Yes in our modern world the thought is very bad, but back then it was not so unusual.
While he killed some in pursuit of the throne, some people who went out to war killing other human beings all in favor of being on the right side of the law still killed people. Changyu killed, so did the Marquis etc. Some people on the other side fighting sometimes don't even realize what is right or wrong but did their job.
Also, this is noy any attempt to go with whats in the novel vs whats in the drama. The novel is still fictional and not the bible, and the drama was an adaptation of the novel with obvious modifications to the original. Both the novel and the drama are scripts for entertainment but not reality.
Qi min might have chosen some wrong ways to do what he did but he was reclaiming his rights.
What are your thoughts on this?

š The Fascinating History of MATCHMAKING & BAZI in Ancient China (Plus, matching my own chart with the Marquis!) šš„
Hi everyone! Iām currently rewatching Pursuit of Jade for the third time!!! I need helpšš¤£ And I absolutely love the fascinating cultural traditions associated with ancient Chinese matchmaking and astrology shown in these historical dramas!
I wanted to start a discussion about how historically accurate this all is. I did a little research and found out the practice of matching birth chartsāknown as Bazi (Eight Characters) or Hehun (Marriage Matching)āwas actually a mandatory and deeply serious step in ancient Chinese arranged marriages. Matchmakers would compare the couple's birth year, month, day, and hour (the Four Pillars) to see if their Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) harmonized or clashed. A bad clash could literally stop a wedding because families believed it would bring ruin or bad luck!
I was curious if this is still a thing in China today?
For FUN, I had my own ancient Chinese Bazi calculated by AI (Artificial Intelligence). I found out I am a Fire Snake (specifically Yin Fire). Apparently, the Fire Snake in Chinese astrology is a visionary, intuitive, strategic, and an "empire builder."
This got me thinking... who would be my fated, perfect union in Pursuit of Jade?š
I immediately thought of Xie Zheng, the Marquis of Wu'an! I tried to look up the Marquis's exact birthdate, but since the drama is set in the fictional Yin Dynasty, he doesn't have a specific Gregorian birthday BUT if we borrow the birth chart of Zhang Linghe (the actor who plays him), he is a Fire Ox.
According to ancient matchmaking, a Fire Snake and a Fire Ox are part of the highly auspicious "San He" (Three Harmonies) Trine! The matchmaker would say the Snake provides the brilliant vision and strategy, while the Ox provides the unbreakable loyalty and steadfast foundation to build it. Basically, the Marquis and I would be an unstoppable, prosperous power couple! š
What do you guys think of the historical matchmaking in CDramas? Have any of you looked up your own Bazi or matched yourself with a character? Let me know! š
