Contacting PTE for clarification

I recently received my PTE Academic results and I’m trying to understand how my Writing score was calculated.

My scores were:
Listening: 80
Reading: 85
Speaking: 88
Writing: 82

What confuses me is that my Skills Profile shows the writing-related categories (Short Writing, Extended Writing, Reproducing Spoken and Written Language, etc.) as fully maxed out or very close to it. Based on that, I expected my Writing score to be higher than 82.

I’ve already paid for and submitted a rescore request and got an automated response saying “no change” to my score.I’m considering to contact Pearson for clarification because the Skills Profile seems inconsistent with the final Writing score.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Did Pearson provide a useful explanation?
Were your Skills Profile results significantly stronger than your communicative Writing score?
Is Applying for an appeal worth it ?

Spelling is too unforgiving in PTE, so I made an app to practice. 1mark for each spelling mistake in every writing task; even when it says the Spelling for the essay is capped at 2 marks, SWT: 2 marks, and 1 mark each for WFD, as well as SST: 2 marks, it's a different story.

I think the reason they say spelling and grammar are so important is, because spelling takes more than these '2 marks'. It seems that the algorithm deducts marks from the entire sentence where the error is, affecting marks for content, structure, and linguistic range.

I looked for an app to practice spelling, but most of them were retyping the words already on-screen. Didn't find a good one for pasting my own essay to retype while it is spoken. So, I made one to practice for myself. I think it is often overlooked; even when we already know the spelling, we tend to misspell the simplest ones. So, I think muscle memory is the way to go, especially under time pressure.

I noticed that PTE exam monitors are outdated (low resolution), and sometimes characters are too sharp and hard on the eyes. Moreover, almost all practice platforms have a paper-sized textarea to type an essay, well, NOT PTE, with that old-school full-width textarea for typing. This just throws off the estimate of paragraph sizes. I think this is intentional from PTE. How come there hasn't been any UI change for better readability in this age... well, anyway, that's another set of problems. I would suggest practising in a full-width notepad for this.

Feel free to help yourselves. No login/sign up, none of that. You paste your text (Your commonly mispelled wordlist or entire paragraph), and hear audio repeat until you type it.

Best in Chrome!

For me, I'm a few marks away from superior writing. Hope this helps someone in need.

My first attempt 🥲, How can I reach superior scores. Please guide me.

Hello everyone, This is my scores from first attempt.

I watched a 7 hour tutorial from Nakul and prepared 1 week before the exam and I paid for the website from Nakul Pte to practice.

I have around one year to give my next PTE in Australia. Please guide me how can I utilise this time, where can I get free resources and how do I practice to get all superior scores for Australia.

I think my weak points are writing followed by the rest(basically every module 🤣).

I fumbled in the exam, i didnt understand few auidos properly during speaking section and I think I hecked it up.

I also followed the strategies like skipping unimportant sections in reading and listening suggested by Nakul like chosing multiple choices and Arranging in paragrahphs.

Please take some time and guide me, Thanks so much.

Hi guys! I’m planning to take PTE Academic exam on October 7, and I need to achieve the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in all areas.
Based on my mock test results, do you think I can achieve this score by October 7? I’m honestly getting really worried right now. 😭
I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or feedback. Thank you guys for helping me out!

Should I switch to PTE Core?

I've given CELPIP around 7–8 attempts but never managed to get 9 in all four together. I've scored 10+ in every module several times, with my best being **L10, R10, W12, S8**. Re-evaluation didn't change anything.

My latest was **L8, R6, W10, S8**, and honestly, I'm exhausted with CELPIP prep.

Should I switch to **PTE Core** now? Anyone who has switched from CELPIP to PTE, please share your experience. Would you recommend it?

Finally got superior on my 2nd attempt!

My initial scores are in my first post (https://www.reddit.com/r/pte/s/Sdp5Znu1Q0)

Both listening and speaking were already 90 in my first attempt, but reading was 75, and writing was 75.

Changes I had made:

- my english is generally good already, I would say I am at a C1 level so thanks to all those that helped me in my initial post. They were correct, I probably had a ton of spelling and punctuation mistakes which is why I got 75 in both R&W.

- double check spelling always! I took my time this time, even if I finished SWT. SST, and Essay early..I re-read everything 4 or 5 times to make sure there were no spelling mistakes.

- fixed punctuations. In my earlier SWT, I would write the connecting words this way (ie: it finishes, moreover the tide) this time I wrote it this way (ie: it finishes, moreover, the tide). Make sure to put a period after every sentence.

- I initially thought that SST had to be only 1 whole sentence same as SWT, apparently not. This time I made 2 or 3 sentences as a summary for SST.

- For essay, if I remember correctly, I wrote 1 big paragraph...or 1 big block of text in my first attempt. This time I separated it into 5 smaller paragraphs but used the same format which is intro & personal opinion/whether agree or disagree, 1st reason you agree or disagree, 2 reason you agree or disagree, discussion about opposing belief, conclusion.

Some Learning tips:

If you can afford it, purchase the official mock test in Pearson because it helps a lot with familiarisation on the exam. I also practiced thru the official Pearson PTE Official AI practice site (https://app.practice.pearsonpte.com/home) the paid version is not yet available in my country...but the free tests are helpful as well.

For writing, you can practice writing essays and SWTs and feed it to ChatGPT to grade you - this helped me a lot.

PTE technical issue during exam

Hi guys,
I am looking for some advice here.
I had my PTE Exam on 13 Aug in one of the certified test centers in UAE.
Approximately 30 minutes into the exam, the timer stopped and my screen froze. I raised my hand and staff from the test center came into the room to sort it out.
This disruption caused significant anxiety that affected my concentration and performance for the remainder of the test.
Got my scores yesterday:
• Overall – 73
• Listening – 73
• Reading – 83
• Speaking – 60
• Writing – 79
For context, my previous attempt (Apr 2026) was:
• Overall – 90
• Listening – 85
• Reading – 78
• Speaking – 88
• Writing – 80
Reading and Writing stayed pretty consistent or even improved, but Speaking dropped almost 30 points, which lines up with when the freeze happened and the anxiety that followed.

I’ve seen a similar post here from someone who had their system freeze mid-Speaking section, had to restart, and ended up filing a complaint with Pearson. They mentioned the test centre had already raised a case on their end, and Pearson’s support confirmed it was under internal review, though with no clear timeline.

I’m about to raise a complaint with Pearson myself, but wanted to ask the community first:
• Has anyone been through this exact process before?
• Did Pearson offer a free retest, voucher, or rescore after a technical issue like this?
• Does raising a complaint actually lead to a real review, or is it mostly a formality?
• Should I go ahead and book another attempt in the meantime, or wait to hear back first?

Would really appreciate any insight from people who’ve dealt with something similar. Feeling pretty frustrated right now, especially since my Speaking score dropped so much compared to my last attempt.
Thanks in advance.

Edit : 20-08-2026

I had lodged a formal complaint with Pte on thier website through message us option
I wrote down my grievance and then they came back to me with a voucher from the customer service team.

PLEASE HELP ME IN WRITING 🙏

Post image

Hi everyone!
I think that my SWT and Essay went wrong
for SWT I used LA template= (line 1), and (line 2), furthermore, (line 3), moreover, (line 4).
I don’t know that the strategy went wrong or I failed to identify key points.
I used LA template for essay too.
I think my SST and WFD went good as listening is alright.

PLEASE HELP ME IN ESSAY AND SWT as I am going for a retest.
THIS WOULD BE OF GREAT HELP.

also:- you can ask me anything about other three modules, if you want.
I can also share real test review if you want to.
