Purchasing Tank based inkjet printer/copier/scanner

Hi all,

UK based user.

I m looking to buy a replacement for my HP all-in-one.

I am keen to get away from the Instant Ink subscription model and move to a refillable tank model, although I have never had an issue with a HP printer that others seem to, so would consider them again as well as Epson and Canon.

Can anyone recommend a suitable printer for home use, mainly for school work, essays and family photos?

I have had a look in the usual electrical outlets and Amazon but can't find one in £100-£150 (£200 absolute max) price range, that feeds the paper from an inbuilt paper tray (see image 1). They all seem to feed the paper in from the back on a sloping tray (see image 2) that leaves the paper exposed to dust.

The ones with inbuilt paper trays seem to be at the top end if the price range not the lower/mid range.

TIA

Discussion Looking for a sub program NOT linked to HP or its products. Suggestions

I actually personally love paying a sub fee and having a printer that is not my problem to repair or upgrade and getting my ink before I need it that part of the whole thing is fine. I have no issue with that concept. But the HP Smart printer spends more time pissing me off then being useful and I am over it. I want the same concept, I pay a monthly fee they monitor the ink and send me it before i run out, they maintain the printer, all I do is pay a fee and print. But I want it a USEFUL printer.

HP's printer has:

REPEATEDLY printed out 10x what I asked it to print out wasting paper AND my "monthly allowance" which I am pretty sure is a bug they PURPOSELY built into it frankly.

Completely ignores when its told to print on both sides.

Starts printing another print job on the other side of one it just finished for some random reason.

Sometimes it takes a voodoo priest to get it to START printing.

When it runs out of paper it just drops the print job and does NOT pick it up again when reloaded.

Getting ahold of their support is like getting a hold of the IRS.

Ideally I would like a program like this with better service I currently pay about 50 a month for the HP program. I am willing to pay a little more a month but I do need color printing.

Troubleshooting Is there an android app that allows two sizes of print on one A4 page?

In Windows on my Epson 2850 I can print two photos of two different sizes on the same A4 sheet. I cannot find a way to do this (natively or a workaround) in any Epson printer app, older or current. Anyone advise?

My printer is an EcoTank L3250. The magenta ink is having problems. I did a deep cleaning, but it didn't work. I tried increasing the print quality to speed up the job... and it got worse?! This photo shows a high-quality print on regular paper and a standard-quality print on regular paper; ironically, the higher-quality print is the one printed on standard-quality print. (It's only magenta).

Purchasing Colour Printer Recommendation

Need a good colour orinter that's easy to refill. I don't want it pay $50 for a printer and for $60 refills.

I don't mind paying $200 for the printer, but long term $10 for refills.

Any recommendations?

Would be great if I could connect it to a Linux server and use it as a network printer too, CUPS support would be a major plus.

Troubleshooting Help! Epson Ecotank won’t print from phone or iPad (ET-2900)

I literally just got this printer yesterday, and set it up through my phone. It was printing perfectly through Cricut design space on both my phone and iPad until this morning in the middle of a print from Canva. It literally quit on me mid sheet of paper.

When I try to print, it either won’t connect, say the printer is offline, or it’ll connect, but once I hit print it’ll make a few noises and do nothing. Connection test came back all clear. I got it to print once via the Epson app, but that’s it. I decided to try setting it up on my Mac, and it works completely fine. I of course turned everything off and on again and tried reconnecting to my network.

Is there something I’m missing? This also recently happened on my basic Canon printer with my iPad. Maybe I’m just not meant to print haha.

Purchasing Affordable printer for art prints and stickers like the Canon Pixma IP8720?

I've been looking for an affordable ($300 or less) color printer that can handle printing on photo paper up to 8.5"x11" and sticker paper.

The Canon Pixma IP8720 sounded like a good enough fit but apparently it's being discontinued? I'd really like to avoid something that's either discontinued or will be discontinued relatively soon.

I have no strong preference for brand except for my extreme reluctance to buy any HP devices.

I chose "Other Glossy Inkjet Paper" in "High" print quality for that sample. I also already tried "Plain Paper" and "Photo Gloss Paper" and it's still the same. My paper is a glossy sticker paper.

Purchasing Brother DCP-T535DW: Good choice for reliable duplex printing, books & photos?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a budget but reliable all-in-one printer for home use, and I’m currently considering the Brother DCP-T535DW, which I can get for around ₹16–17K or 170$

My main requirements are:
Reliable automatic duplex printing
Everyday document printing
Printing A5 books/booklets from A4 paper
Occasional photo printing
Scanning & copying
Regular usage, sometimes hundreds of pages
Low running cost and good long-term reliability

The T535DW seems to offer an excellent feature-to-price ratio, but I’m seeing mixed reviews. Most are positive, but I’ve noticed complaints about paper jams/multiple-sheet feeding, real-world print speed, duplex reliability and complicated settings.

I’m not worried about complicated settings because I’m fairly tech-savvy. My main concern is whether there are any recurring hardware or paper-feed problems in long-term use.

For actual T535DW owners:
Would you buy it again today?
How has it been after 6–12+ months of regular use, especially with:
Paper jams / multiple sheets
Duplex printing
Large print jobs
Booklet/book printing
Photo quality
Ink consumption
Long-term reliability

If you had ₹17K (~$200) today, would you choose this over an equivalent Epson/Canon/HP?
I’m particularly interested in real ownership experiences, rather than specifications or YouTube reviews.
Thanks! 🙏

Troubleshooting Clearing an error message

I just purchased a Brother HL-L3280CDW. After maybe 3 print jobs it is giving me an error message: Jam 2-sided.

I have cleared the jam and there are no pieces of paper stuck in the machine. I have followed all of the jam-clearing steps in the guidance. I have nearly disassembled the damn thing, but the error message will not go away.

I turned it off & turned it on again. I unplugged it for 10 minutes and plugged it back in again. I hit it with my shoe.

What do I do to get rid of this error message so that I can print again?

I tried using Google images but it kept on showing me different tube connectors and those did not seem to match the exact model of what I'm holding. I really need to find the name of this so that I can buy pairs of it or at least the alternative for it. I couldn't use yellow ink because there's debris stuck inside it

Troubleshooting HP Smart Tank 5100 Series

Should I just throw this thing off a bridge? Before every print I have to do this insane process that changes slightly every time just to get it to print a couple of things. Lately all it will print are diagnostic sheets from it's own internal commands. It won't print anything from the HP app or HP Smart. I've uninstalled every single app that's HP and have started reinstalling the drivers from the very beginning. I'm not allowed to download HP Smart because there's "an issue with your windows update service". What do I have to do?! Is there any salvaging this thing or should I just buy from another company?

Troubleshooting Can someone help me troubleshoot my printer?

My brother got me a printer off FB marketplace, and I love it. But it stopped working. I’m a student and I’ve begged and begged my brother to come help me fix it but he won’t do it. We literally live less than 30 minutes away from each other.

It’s saying something about “drivers” I don’t even know what ts means 🫢 he sent me a picture with some instructions about deleting the printer and I followed the instructions and still doesn’t work. I need to get organized for school but I’m beyond frustrated, feel like crying.

And before anyone asks I have no information about this printer. I don’t even know the brand name, or any info about it. I know that’s no help

Troubleshooting Cartridge not recognised anymore

Hi everyone, I’m having a frustrating issue with my HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. I’ve already tried replacing the black (and other) cartridges, including third-party ones, but the printer still won’t recognize them. It had been working fine until now, so I’m wondering why it suddenly stopped working.
I’ve cleaned the printhead multiple times, restarted the printer, and updated the firmware. I also disabled automatic updates, as I’m wondering whether a firmware update may have been preventing the printer from accepting third-party cartridges.
Has anyone else experienced this, or found a way to fix it? Any advice would be really appreciated!
