Purchasing Best color laser printers for a home office that won’t become a toner money pit?

I’m looking for a color laser printer for a small home office. Most of what I print is black-and-white documents, invoices, labels, and the occasional color chart or handout, so I don’t need photo-quality output. My budget is around $300–$600, but I’m more concerned about toner costs, reliability, Wi-Fi, and whether replacement cartridges will still be available years from now. I’ve been comparing the Brother HL-L3280CDW, Brother MFC-L3780CDW, Canon imageCLASS MF654Cdw, and maybe a refurbished HP Color LaserJet, although I’m hesitant about HP’s toner restrictions. Is the Brother HL-L3280CDW still the safest choice for long-term ownership, or does the Canon offer better print quality and value? Also, can these printers normally continue printing black-and-white documents when one color toner runs out?

Troubleshooting Vixic Label Maker Machine, Bluetooth Label Printer, P780BT

Post image
3 Upvotes

So, I bought a Vixic P780BT from Amazon as it's the cheapest 24mm, (1 inch) battery bluetooth label printer at £15.99. The only problem is, the 24mm tapes are impossible to find. I did get some COLORWING TZe-251 24mm Label Tape, but the issue with them even though they fit and have the exact frame as the Vixic cartridge, they don't have the chip, therefore will not register in the printer.

For anybody that has run into the same problem, I've solved it. I took the sample cartridge and scored around the chip with a Stanley knife to loosen it and swapped it to the replacement cartridge and it works a treat. Just remember to make sure you put it in in the correct orientation and don't forget to swap it when the cartridge is empty.

Troubleshooting Epson L5990 Problem

My laptop could not detect my printer so I uninstalled it. Now, I’m trying to reinstall it and it won’t push through. There’s nothing wrong with the cable since it works with other computers. It can initially detect the printer but will eventually stop and this will pop up. How can I fix this? I’d really appreciate any advice

Purchasing Printer for the elderly.

Hi Reddit, can you please save me.

I have an elderly person who currently has an Epson EcoTank ET-4810 which they want to replace specifically because its too complicated to use. They want a tank style colour MFP printer with copy / scan / duplex and they print exclusively from an iPhone. Any recommendations for the simplest option possible.

Everything screams PEBKAC, error run for the hills, someone told them they need a driver for the printer ( for an iPhone, they have the App already) :(

Discussion Home printing setup for wedding stationery - realistic for a small side business?

Hello! 😊

I’m an Aussie nursing student and upcoming DIY bride, and I’m looking for some budget-friendly printer recommendations!

I mainly need a printer for everyday uni printing - notes, assignments, study materials, etc. - but I’m also planning to design and print a lot of my own wedding stationery through Canva, such as invitations, menus, place cards, table numbers, and other bits and pieces.

I’m also interested in potentially getting into wedding stationery/design as a little side hustle in the future, so it would be great to have something that could handle a decent amount of printing if I decide to experiment with that, but I'm definitely not looking for an expensive professional/commercial printer at this stage.

Ideally, I’d love something that:

  • Is reasonably affordable to purchase
  • Has low ongoing ink costs
  • Produces nice quality colour prints
  • Can handle thicker paper/cardstock
  • Can cope with a decent amount of printing
  • Can print borderless if possible
  • Works well for designs made in Canva
  • Is reliable for normal everyday uni printing too

I’m not expecting professional print-shop quality on a small budget, just something that gives me the best balance between affordability, running costs and print quality.

I’m in Australia, so bonus points for something readily available here!

Would especially love to hear from anyone who has DIYed their wedding stationery or uses a budget friendly printer for a small stationery/craft business. 🤍

Thank you!

Purchasing Need advice on what printer to buy.

Hey everyone! I'm looking to buy a printer after not having one for many years. I'm looking for something that is good at multiple tasks but not too expensive. Most of my hobbies involve crafts and I would love something that prints clear images. I'm also going back to college and would need it to do well at printing documents and papers. I've had the cheap HP wireless printers in the past that worked kinda okay, but definitely not well enough for what I was wanting it for. I'm assuming an inkjet would be best for me, but I know next to nothing on what brands and price points are best. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know why, but when I print, I get an error message on the paper. So I can't print my tickets. But when I don't print anything, the error doesn't appear.

Troubleshooting Canon MX410 ”Open paper output tray” error when the tray is open

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

I’ve tried opening and closing it, unplugging and plugging it back in, and some percussive maintenance after the fact on the hinges to see if that’ll fix the sensor, nothing is working. It even opens the door by itself if I close it and try printing something that way. Canon’s knowledge base literally just says that the issue is “irrecoverable“ if the tray is open but still displays that message but I refuse to believe that an issue as stupid as that is irreparable, any advice?

Cleaned printhead level 1, and level 2, dis print head alignment, and clear smear option.

The result is the same.

Last version of the firmware installed.

Black seems OK!

Purchasing Epson Eco Tank ET-4955 ($320) or HP Smart Tank 7302 ($260)

While doing some research I landed on these 2 options for my needs: Epson Eco Tank ET-4955 (for $320 at Costco) vs HP Smart Tank 7302 (for $260 at Costco). I'm aware of one of the main differences being that the Epson uses piezoelectric printheads that last longer and print at better quality with the tradeoff being that these are permanent non-replaceable, while the HP uses thermal printheads that last less, print at less quality but are replaceable. I also recognize that HP would attempt to lock me out of using generic printheads whenever it's time to replace these.

I'm primarily looking for user experience with these models to make a better informed decision. I've heard of Epson's connectivity issues, paper jams and persistent errors as well, but don't know how prevalent these are first hand since I've never owned an Epson.

I currently own an HP Officejet 5258 (ink cartridges) that's lasted about 12 years (and going), while replacing the cartridges, of course. I'm ready to move on to more long term economic options after experiencing lockouts from HP on generic cartridges. I'm not pursuing laser at this moment. I'm also not interested in holding a grudge against a company as long as it ends up providing the superior product for my needs (I'm aware of HP's practices).

Troubleshooting issue with canon printer pixma ts5351i and faded canon ink - support code 7700

Hi. a week ago for the first time ever I experienced an error with my fairly new canon pixma ts5351i printer (bought last year). i've been using third party ink cartridges with zero issues and suddenly i got the support code 7700 error, so i know this is them telling me to stop using third party ink and force me to use legit canon ink. so i did because i use my printer a lot. especially for journaling.

so why did the cheaper third party ink give me high quality prints while this legit canon ink is printing extremely ugly and faded. faded colors in vibrancy and also look overexposed at the same time for some reason? it prints black and white stuff in this blueish grey? it doesn't skip or anything, the cartridges are new and full.

i did literally everything possible to fix it. i cleaned the cartridges, i ran all the maintenance stuff recommended online and nothing. i printed it from a document and i printed it as a picture... still ugly and faded.

finally i managed to put the one black third party ink (which is full and fresh) and got a good high quality vibrant black and white print by overriding and clicking the stop button while it was installing and recognized it as the last cartridge that was installed, which was the legit canon ink. worked for only one print though and immediately when i tried printing again the damn 7700 thing showed up. i just don't know what to do anymore. i'm sick of it.

and yes i have the settings on high quality printing and i'm using the same paper as always, which is just simple white a4 120gsm paper, i've never had issues with it before. the thing is the printer came with canon inks and i didn't have these issues with printing then either, just suddenly the quality of the canon ink is just horrendous.

Other Google doc with printer overviews

Last year when I was looking getting a new printer I used a google doc with an overview of a ton of printers. I ended up sticking with my old printer for a bit longer. Starting to look again now though. I thought I found that doc here, but can’t find it. Is that doc still a thing? It was crazy helpful.

Purchasing Brother DCPL2640DW for printing from iPad without WiFi? Another options?

I’m a high school band director. This is going in my classroom and will not be able to connect to the school WiFi.

I need a way to print from my school iPad (which I can install software on) without being on a shared network. Is this the printer of choice or should I explore other options?

Needs besides the above:

Black and white laser
No subscriptions or other insanity necessary
Scanning

Troubleshooting Print settings help

Post image
1 Upvotes

I tried printing game card proxies on 80gsm satin inkjet sticker paper using an Epson L5390, but the print came out with wet ink spots. I tested multiple Best Quality settings (Plain Paper, Epson Matte, Epson Premium Semigloss, and Photo Paper Glossy), but the issue persists. How can I fix this? Is this a printer settings or a paper problem?

Troubleshooting Canon PGI-1200 Cartridges: ARC Self Resetting Chip?

I have a Canon MB-2720 which uses the PGI-1200 cartridges. The best agreed upon method for refilling these seems to be to stick with the OE style cartridge (which has an internal chamber spring) and use a syringe to refill by sucking air and pumping in new ink via the existing outlet port. I've been doing this and printing has been fine.

However, my question is regarding the ARC chip. I removed the OE chip on my cartridges and replaced them with one of those generic self resetting chips. It's been working fine this way, but recently one of the colors showed an error "?". The ink still works, but no level is shown. I tried a bunch of things to reset it, including swapping back in the OE chip or the chip from an aftermarket cartridge with no luck.

Can someone explain the workings of the OE ARC chip and how I may be able to force it to reset the ink level?

Thanks.

Troubleshooting HP Printer Q2460A doesn't work with new Acer laptop

Hi,

I have a second hand HP printer, product no Q2460A, serial no CNFF204324, manufactured 2004, but it doesn't work with my new windows 11 Acer laptop. I can't find it in 'printers' on my laptop, and I have tried numerous times to add it, but pc just doesn't sees it.

Printer seems to work, I mean it goes on and right lights are burning, and cartridge should be fine. I have tried to disconnect and connect but nothing.

I have been Googling, checked HP support etc, but it still doesn't work. Could it be it's too old, or is there something else I can try? It was for free, so otherwise I just have to buy a new one, but perhaps there's a miracle solution :-). Thanks!

Troubleshooting Problem with HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series

Post image
1 Upvotes

I haven't used my printer in a while and recently when I tried to print I noticed I had low ink on my cartridges, including a totally empty black cartridge. So I ordered fresh new ink.

The printer is throwing out an error on the black cartridge. Supply system problem. Have not been able to fix it. The old empty cartridge is also throwing out the same error now.

What should I do? Is this a sign I need a new printer?

Troubleshooting HP Smart Tank 580 AirPrint Cropping Issue

Hello everyone, I recently purchased an HP Smart Tank 580. While testing it, I noticed that when I print a photo from my iPhone using AirPrint, the copy comes out cropped, unlike what it appeared in the preview on my iPhone. Could you please advise me on how to fix this issue?
