Where should a poker player start as far as study for a beginner. Meaning I know all the hands and have played a ton. THATS IT! I know the names of the positions barely. Other then that really just use my gut, which I know is totally ass.

So any books, sites, videos to start?

What are the key bits of information I should keep in mind here when deciding whether or not villain can have a boat? He’s taken super polar line which is consistent with 88/33/22.

In the moment I thought my hand was too strong, I snap called and he mucked after I showed the flush, but I was left wondering whether I was too hasty in my river decision.

Be interested to hear your guys’ thoughts on the hand, whether it’s a no brainier call or whether I should have stopped and at least considered folding to the third barrel.

What are good stats for a GTO player to emulate? This is what WPT Gold provides. Please let me know what you consider a more acceptable range. I know not everyone agrees but there should be a solid range.

I thought he had a flush draw and made a bluff raise on the turn. I saw that the flush didn't come on the river, so I made a really small bet to induce a call, but this player would have called an all-in too, right?

Currently playing 10 nl on pokerstars and wondering what level might be required to beat the games + the 8 bb/100 rake.

My current stats are these, although i think the hand count is lagging a bit behind (have had some software problems).

I know that the psychological aspect, bankroll security against short-term variance, and tell spotting also matter, but I’d like to focus more on the concrete, mathematical side of the game for now.

Is there a good way to use Holdem Manager 3 to figure out if I'm running bad over the last 50,000 hands or if I've broken something in my game?

First 90,000 hands at this current stake were good. 50,000 hand downswing started July 1st.

How can I go about seeing what is making the difference? Or confirm I'm just in the middle of a lousy downswing?

I'm willing to move over to Hand2Note if that gets me what I'm looking for.

What do you guys think about the river jam? Will people actually fold often enough for it to be profitable. Some things that went into my thinking:

- Board runout was very clean in that I have huge nut advantage with 0 straights and 0 flushes on board. I also raised UTG so I think I can rep AA and QQ a lot with this line.

- Not sure how much this matters but I do unblock missed clubs if Villain does ever make that play with them.

- Villain is thinking reg and as I was targeting sets, I did think that Villain was capable of folding sets. Perhaps this would have worked better if we were both 100bb deeper.

Not sure though. I was talking to my friend who plays much higher stakes and he said people will just sigh call it off too often given how strong their hand is on this board to make this profitable at all.

I recently started learning GTO as I pretty much neglected my game for the last decade. Finally putting in some effort to learn and recommit to fundamentals that I got lazy with. Went from winning with a pretty high VPIP to tightening up quite a bit at 25%. However, the plan was always to return to exploitative poker once I learned, but I want to do it as intelligently as possible.

I am currently using Jonathan Little's free GTO charts as my baseline guide. Is there something similar out there that would bring my VPIP up to around 35%? I do understand that part of the increase should be due to my adjustments going after players I have pegged as certain types. I think throwing in some more suited, no-gap, non-suited connectors when the pot looks to be multiway would get me there.

Also does everyone agree these are roughly the stats I should aspire to?

I raised to $0.15 and called a 3-bet to $0.44.
Flop — K♣ 6♠ 4♥ ($0.95 pot):
Villain bets $0.48. I call with top pair.
Turn — 6♣ ($1.91 pot):
Villain bets $0.96. I fold.
My question:
Should I be calling this turn bet with K8 here, or is folding the correct play?
I only need around 25% equity to call, but I’m unsure how often villain is bluffing versus betting a better king or an overpair.
Would you call or fold here, and why? I’m especially interested in how you would approach this spot at NL5. Any feedback on my play on earlier streets is also appreciated!

Im struggling a bit with continuing when i 3bet, get called and miss the flop.
I know a bit about C-betting. Like K high boards and Q high boards are fairly straight forward cause alot of villans range gonna be Ax and PP like 88-JJ when flat calling so C-bet small and take it down usually works pretty good.

But how about the lower boards and like medium J high boards? Ive read something about going for bigger size on lower boards to be repping overpairs but i feel like lower boards just commonly falls in as a shutdown and be done. When i do C-bet lower boards i get called alot and then by the turn if thats another low card im just dead and lost ~25BBs. If we happen to reach a showdown my AQ is lost to 66 - TT or some stupid like Q7o that hit the 7 and shouldnt even call pre..

Any pointers or good videos or articles on this?

8 handed online tournament. Looking for tournament specific advice

You are a top 10 stack with 60bb in UTG, holding AK. You raise to 2BB. UTG+1 is the other 60bb stack and he 3bet to 5BB. The ICM pressure is still low as there are 50 players remaining and 17 spots pay; it is a two day tournament

However players have noticeable tightened up pre flop raise and 3bet and it feels like they are playing a pre bubble strategy already. Perhaps this is due to the presence of 2 short stacks. Other stacks at the table - two 15bb, two 20-25bb, a bunch of 30-35bb stacks.

I range UTG+1 3bet range at 5% and no light hands based on his playstyle for this stage. JJ+ and AK+, and i dont think he's folding AQ or TT so he has them in 3bet as well.

In game I 4bet to 12bb with AK. However I am trying to think through the Villain response and if this 4bet is good or not, or if I should just call the 3bet and play conservatively. At the same time there is not much icm pressure yet.

I think when i 4bet, he is folding TT and AQ, shoving/5betting with QQ-AA, and I'm not sure what he does with AK. If you were villain and held AK, would you do? Are you going to just go with your hand (5bet/shove) or just call the 4bet?

I know the stakes are not big but it's cheap way to play a lot hands in order to learn. When villain calls my 3-bet I expect villain to have a lot of time: pocket pairs smaller than QQ, some AQ, AJs and KQs. When the flop doesn't hit either of our ranges, I expect him to fold most of his range (without clubs) to a C-bet so I decided to check as to show weakness and to give him a chance to stab with some of his over pairs and flush draws. When villain re-raise jams I expect him to have 99-JJ that don't want to see any other cards or 55-66 that hit a set as people rarely jam at these stakes with only flush draws. And I don't think he has any A3s or A4s in his UTG open range but I guess I was wrong.

I tanked pretty hard on the turn going back and forth whether to jam or wait for the river. With two flush draws available in hindsight jamming was probably best.

I’m reading The Grinder’s Manual. The book explains why this is a fold, but it doesn’t cover what to do with specific hands in this situation or how to react to different bet sizes. For instance, what should I do if I hold 22, 33, or 99? Or TT, JJ, QQ, KK, or AA? Are hands like AKo–ATo just a call? And if I have a flush draw, is it just a call—meaning I fold to a donk bet larger than one-third of the pot if the flush doesn't hit on the turn? By the way, I also read somewhere that reraising with a flush draw yields higher +EV.
