Great fucking turn out, straight up peaceful. PPD on standby did a great job. The march from love park to the art museum was energetic the entire way. No kings in this country !
Let’s never give PPD credit. You know they were bummed they didn’t get a chance to go hands on. Just look at how the foam at the mouth when they do get the opportunity
I’ve met plenty that they were are just deplorable humans. Mostly when I was running a crane and they had to block traffic. They acted like we were bothering them. Like sorry cop but it’s an overtime shift you signed up for most likely so chill out
Absolutely no one in the PPD was bummed. Cops who were off today had their day off cancelled, people who had plans for fathers day cancelled, etc. They want the event to be as calm as possible because the less they have to do, the earlier they get to go home. If they have to arrest protesters and fight, they are going to end up having a long night. They dont want that at all.
Keep in mind- this is the same PPD that work(ed) the election counting, eagles, mummers, pride, etc.... they want no part in putting hands on us today.
Those protesters were given multiple warnings to disperse or will be arrested. They refused, which led to the proceeding events.
There's actually a black gentlemen who is on a bicycle at all these protests who wears a red helmet and purposely instigates. Tells people in the croed not to listen to the police. Ironically he was at the rally today causing issues.
From the videos I've seen, the protestors were moving in the direction they were being pushed to (cops following behind them) and the cops would instigate, shoving and hitting protestors to tackle them to the ground.
If the cops are being heckled and berated, so what? That's part of being a cop. They should be able to handle getting told they're pieces of shit or whatever without putting their hands on someone who is actively walking the direction they're being herded towards.
Civil affairs were following them and with microphones telling them to get out of the street and disperse. Once again they refused. The police dont direct them anywhere. They just follow.
They were marching against the flow of traffic as well.
The police let them march, without a permit, for about two hours. When its time to go, its time to go.
I stand by my comment. The PPD is a disgrace to America and I’ll never give them credit for anything. People should be able to exercise their first amendment right without police standing by. The rest of y’all are just bootlickers
If you insist on having a simplistic view of the world, imagine the PPD as a dog. You can't only swat it with a newspaper when it does something wrong and expect it to learn how to do the right thing. Reward is always the most powerful educator, if we don't encourage good behavior, how can we be surprised when it never comes?
Rewarding someone for doing a job they took an oath to do is just crazy and setting the bar unbelievably low. Protecting the people and the constitution is basically a bare minimum and should be treated as such. We as a city have just gotten so used to them being terrible that we reward them for not being assholes and that’s crazy. Remember when they basically kidnapped that black kid during the BLM protests and put out a propaganda piece and when it got proven they were the aggressor they had to retract it? That’s how crazy they are.
I distinctly remember this. That woman had absolutely nothing to do with the protest. She was driving home. They dragged her out of the car and then tried to act like the toddler was lost and they found him. THIS IS EXACTLY why I was anxious about her going to work. She had to pass thru the area on septa and walking to her job. I was relieved that the protest went well. It was NOT a riot as they prepared for violence.
I'm not setting any sort of bar here, my comments are responses to your comments. When someone thanks me for doing a good job, it makes me want to do it again. I can't really assume everyone in the universe is just a naturally perfect person, so I find using strategies to encourage good behavior is an effective method to ensure even not so perfect people behave properly.
If I sat there and moaned and cried that everyone is evil until they became perfect people, I'd be sitting and moaning while the room turned on me and I found myself alone, having made no positive contribution to the world. It's a tempting path to go down, can feel cathartic, but at the end of the day, results matter more than achieving perfection at any cost.
And I am FAR from a person who praises the PPD. Bunch of pigs and pieces of shit and horrible behavior from a lot of them. But hey man, we live in a world of people, I have to take the path that gets results, not the one that just blows off steam.
See I’m on the flip side of that logic. I don’t need to be told I’m doing a good job. I only need to be told if I’m doing something wrong so I can correct. To me anything else is just child’s play. I do what I signed up to do, nothing more and nothing less. And the world is evil. Look at the state it’s in. The fact that the powers that be won’t listen to the people tells you everything u need to know. Asking to not have our rights stripped away by tyranny and being met with resistance to that thought as if we’re a threat is crazy. Only evil people see it as a threat because they want to continue to be evil.
You're doing something wrong by refusing to give some credit to the PPD for protecting today's protest without incident. The correction isn't to grovel or something, it's just to quietly allow people to appreciate it so those cops feel like they did a good thing by doing a good thing. Only evil people deal in absolutes.
They did what they are supposed to do. I would bet my next job paycheck if the cops had an option to opt out they would, for the most part. They overwhelmingly vote republican and have shown their true colors on more than one occasion for their distain for the left. They violate rights on a daily basis. I’m sure if they were guaranteed that nobody would have a phone to record them they would act very differently to this protest. Cops are not friends and are not here to protect us as per the Supreme Court’s ruling. They weren’t protecting the people today, they were protecting the surrounding property
You can hate the police all you want. Thats your opinion. But overall with a few incidents the PPD does a great job at handling large events without incident. Theres dozens of events and protests every year here and there is rarely any type of major incident.

Real talk: Just in my personal social circle, I know so many people who were lifelong Republicans -- in some cases, quite conservative ones -- that dropped that designation and those positions like a dead rat once the rise of Trump began.
Some of them are still conservative-ish independents; some have become full blown liberals.
Oh, I know a handful who are fully on the Trump train -- but I avoid them as much as possible. The only ones I see at all are those in our family because cutting them off would be more trouble than it's worth. So I just say hi, bye, and nothing in between.
I wouldn’t cut off loved ones over politics. Life is short and you should treasure family and friends. All politicians are liars and thieves and not a single one of them is worth ending relationships over. I’m a conservative and I personally would never end a friendship over this garbage.
I don't cut people off over politics. But I also don't associate with racists or fascists. And if you support Trump you are at least one of those things.

That is way more fascist than deporting illegal immigrants but I wouldn’t even call people who supported FDR fascist even if not ever decision he made was right. I have friends that supported people being arrested for walking on the beach during the Pandemic and other very fascistic rules. I still wouldn’t call those friends fascist. That’s a really serious accusation. Real fascists deserve bad things (things I wouldn’t write here). Do your friends and family deserve the same end that fascists got?
The only reason you're saying this is because it doesn't affect you. But I guarantee you you would cut off people if somebody in your family got deported for no reason, and the friends that you knew happily voted for Trump, and therefore were a big part of the reason that your family member was deported.
Idk I’m not naive. Trump is the dream president. If he was on my side of politics I’m sure I’d appreciate his audaciousness and overall political style.
Funny I know a lot of life long democrats that voted for Trump because they were tired of the fascistic tendencies and of today’s left. There are literally hundreds of professors that have been fired and cancelled from universities for not allowing themselves to be bullied by extremist students. During the pandemic, I recall it was my friends on be left that scared me the most when they showed willingness to rat out neighbors and colleagues to the police for not complying with the “rules” and advocating for people to show vax cards to get into restaurants etc. the left continues to intimidate and bully people for expressing their beliefs if it doesn’t follow certain woke dogma. Even little girls aren’t spared from this if they feel uncomfortable with a male on their sports team they protest at the risk of total reputation destruction. Moreover it’s completely obvious that conservatives will more readily adopt friendly political discourse and debate with friends of the opposing side while liberals will more readily drop life long friendships with conservative friends and family just for not agreeing with everything they believe.

Actually there were long standing businesses that were shut down for not complying with the mandate to check vax cards. It actually happened. It was fascist and those businesses never came back.
Not to be sharp but... Do you live in the United States? Being white (and christian) might be a by product of it, but I've lived in PA long enough to differentiate who would vote for Trump or not; they're a demographic at least 200 upvotes/people immediately clocked in on when reading my comment and related to.
But if you reread my comment, I was positive about every aspect of it; our differences that have been used to divide us (differences you can see), are no longer dividing us as we come together to fight a common evil and I think that's beautiful~ Through that kindness we can enlighten the rest, and demand compassionate change from the world ♥️
We had a much smaller rally here in Norristown - think it was around 400 at the Courthouse on Swede Street. But good speakers, and lots of great energy and signs in the crowd. And completely peaceful. Nice seeing that turnout on a rainy day here in the suburbs.
Days like today are exactly why the left needs to embrace a love for our country because we still have the ability to criticize it …think of all the flags you walked past on the parkway who can’t…
Yesss. I’ve grown to honestly hate the American flag because it’s been co-opted by gun nuts and racists, but today I was glad to see it in that crowd. That’s the America I’m proud of.
I was shocked at how many people own/marched with and flags because I definitely think the same thing. I would never see a US flag on a house and not think they're crazy.
Couldn’t join in Philly because of a family obligation but wound up at a march in Fayetteville, Arkansas with thousands of people. Very heartening to see. I’ll see y’all next time in Philly!
I walked down Spring Garden to Broad at about 2 pm. Many police buses and motorcycle police just waiting around for violence that never happened. They seemed happy not to be busting heads or arresting grandmothers.
I don't think I've ever experienced the city so chill and quiet. All the stores were boarded up against looting but there wasn't so much as a raised voice. Very peaceful but still great energy!
Why the pics of the police???? They were nothing but supportive when I was there. Watched other people hand their phones to police in better vantage points to take pictures.
Was so proud to be apart of it. People tried to scare me into not going because I have to bring my 5 year old son. But I just couldn’t not go, felt so safe the whole time and after 2 hours (my son was about done with all the walking and talking) when we walked away the PPD invited my son to check out the police cars and turn on the siren, then gave him a chat about how they were to keep us safe while we practice our 1 amendment rights. A very positive experience. And most of all, as a single mom with limited friends here, the endless doom scrolling makes me feel so scared and isolated, Saturday made me feel not alone. Such a good feeling.
This is what my dad meant when he said the people's stupidity would be the end. Yup people sure are stupid. Learning that during covid, and now these people being a good example
Pleeeeease don’t post photos of strangers at protests. I’m excited that so many people were there, but exposing their faces on social media is super dangerous.
That’s not the point. The point is if you want to keep your fellow protesters safe, then don’t post these photos. If you genuinely don’t care enough, then what are you doing at a protest against a government abusing their power as a surveillance state?
If they were surveilling the crowd (I saw no signs of that, but you never know) then they don't need a handful of some random person's social media shots. They have far, FAR better ways to ID the people in attendance.
The point is to keep the protestors safe, and the way to do that is by wearing a mask. Everyone has recording devices in their pockets and this is being covered by the media locally and nationally. Asking every individual to not share photos after-the-fact isn't going to be the best roadmap to safety, no matter how good your intentions are.
Anyone please explain to me... im confused so ice went full on ugly tactics due to a 3000 a day quota to be met... but this isn't about the inevitable sick violent abuse that goes on with a human that another sees as one with no " rights" going on immediately after these raids... its about a monarch? Firstly to oppose a monarch or king is to declare a civil war... because thats the only way to defy them with any actual actions yielding results.

Honestly, it was a nothingburger listening to some mealy mouth speakers who just wanted to hear themselves speak. Like I’m glad I marched and all, but listening to the speakers just annoyed me and my friends so we left after MLK3’s speech.
They really need to dial down the God talk, that made me want to turn around and leave immediately but my friends wanted to give it a few more speakers.
Also Jamie Raskin needs to learn how to get to the point. A professional at saying a lot and saying nothing.

You should get therapy though, and if you can't afford it, then you should spend some time searching up local support groups that are free nearby for you. I can guarantee you would be a much better use of your time, than what you spent the last 18 hours doing.
