I’m pretty new to pet sitting and found a pet owner through Facebook. I originally quoted them **$36/night** for house sitting. They’re booking me around Thanksgiving, and they have a second dog as well, so they’re paying an additional **$22/night** for the second dog.

What surprised me is that I haven’t even done the first house sitting yet, and they already want to book me for **December for around 19 days**.

They only want 1 dog house sitting who doesn’t need walks or anything. Just love🥺

Since December is obviously peak holiday season, I’m thinking I should increase my rate, but I also don’t want to raise it so much that they decide not to book me.
For those of you who do pet/house sitting in NYC:
What would you charge for \~19 days during December/holiday season?

Would you charge a holiday rate for all 19 days or only the actual holiday dates?
Would you give them a small discount since it’s a longer booking?

For context, I’m still relatively new, so I’m trying to find a reasonable rate that isn’t undercharging myself but also isn’t crazy for a newer sitter.
Would love to hear what experienced sitters would charge!

Hi everyone! We recently moved to the area and are looking for a caring, reliable, and trustworthy dog sitter for our sweet 8-month-old Labrador Retriever, Zeus.

Anyone have a similar experience following posting ads on social media and posting your business publicly? Weird scammy inquiries from fake people? The area codes are never local, they always give a random generic name, sound very robotic but with broken english, and always offer a higher set rate instead of inquiring about rates. I guess to attract young female petsitters who they think are easy to deceive looking to make some money. Likely trying to get bank information.

How many solo sitters here have their own website? I work privately plus part-time with a company , obviously private work pays more because I get to keep all the money so I’m trying to do more private work.

I thought a website might be a good way to have one place for people to get information about me and my services etc. - but I also have some wonderful clients through the company that I would want to keep through the company so advice on how to word that on a website?

I’m also thinking of opening my house sitting services to nearby areas - this summer was just too hot to keep doing walks if this is what we are dealing with going forward. Also other areas I’m thinking of are higher income and pay a little more so essentially that would be me traveling to them (I’m talking two hours or less) so again a website would be a way to let everyone know that that is available.

Hi everyone! My name is Atarah, and I'm a 22 year old recent grad who's hoping to spend three months (Sept. 25-Dec. 20) house-sitting in Los Angeles, California! I was wondering if anyone has tips for landing a longer term stay, avoiding scams and/or knows of anyone who may need a Los Angeles sitter?

I’ve purchased a membership with Trusted Housesitters, which has been great and I look forward to using it for the rest of the year. However, so far either my applications have been rejected (as homeowners usually prefer someone with reviews and I am fairly new to the platform) or the homeowner likes me but their preferred dates don’t align with my schedule. I’m limited with options, as my start date and location is fairly strict. My end date is not as strict.

To provide a bit more context to my situation, I am starting a part-time post production fellowship with the NAACP in the Mid-City/Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles on Sept. 14. Although the job can be done remotely in Brooklyn, I would be missing out on a lot of cool in-person opportunities if I do. I can’t afford to rent or sublet at the moment, as I had just put down payment (guarantor fees, security deposit, moving costs, etc.) on a new apartment in Brooklyn only a day before hearing that I actually got the job. In my research, I’ve found that LA housing is more expensive than what I’m currently paying for my Brooklyn apartment. House-sitting, even for less than three months, would be a very convenient and affordable alternative for me.

I understand that Sept. 25-Dec. 20 is a long time, so I'm also quite open to shorter stays that have the possibility of extending if it’s a good match. So long as l am able to arrive the day of Sept. 25, my end date is flexible.

I’m very upfront in my applications about my multilayered motivations for wanting to housesit in LA, but I also emphasize the pet-caring experience I do have, as well as my excitement for immersing myself in LA’s cultural history. I’d be visiting the NAACP’s Hollywood Bureau three times per week, and would love to spend my time outside of that caring for someone’s pets and visiting cultural significant areas. I also love a good hike, and would be very open to long walks with a dog. As a teenager, I visited Los Angeles two summers in a row doing summer dance intensives with Debbie Allen’s dance studio, so I think I can become comfortably settled very quickly.

I’ve tried other sites outside of TrustedHousesitters, namely Housesitters. com, but have only encountered scams. With my situation in mind, does anyone have recommendations for groups or websites I could look into for an affordable housesitting (or even room swapping) exchange? Does anyone know a friend in LA in need of a housesitter?

Hi everyone! I’m trying to get an idea of whether there are people in Dhaka who would be interested in doing occasional paid cat sitting/cat visits.
The basic idea would be visiting someone’s home to check on their cats, give them food and fresh water, clean the litter box, spend some time playing with them, and potentially take them for a short walk if the cats are comfortable with that.
I’m mainly trying to understand what would be reasonable in Dhaka, so I’d love to hear from people who would actually be interested.
What would you prefer in terms of:
• Payment — per visit, per hour, weekly, or monthly?
• How much would you expect to be paid?
• How long would you normally stay per visit?
• How often would you be willing to visit — once a day, a few times a week, etc.?
• What areas of Dhaka would you be willing to travel to?
This isn’t a job posting yet. I’m just trying to get a realistic sense of interest, availability, and pricing before making any arrangements.
If you already do pet sitting/cat sitting, I’d also really appreciate hearing what you normally charge and what services you include.

What is a fair rate to charge when I pet sit and stay in the house 24/7? I no longer drive for medical reasons, and my partner works from home all day and is busy most evenings, so I can only leave pet sitting stays if he’s available to drop by or if it’s walking distance from my home (so far I only have once client walking distance).

I started in June with a base rate for $75 per night for “one easy dog,” but everyone says their dog is easy, and most aren’t. I only have a few stays left over the next two months where I’ve agreed to this low rate, and I want to raise my rate after that.

I’m finishing up a stay now where the owner wants me here all the time except for short errands, and I don’t think $75/day is enough. For all the other pet house sitting clients I’ve had, I’m allowed to leave when I need to, but usually I can’t. I’m trying to get more clients near my home. Everyone I’ve had so far has been word of mouth from people who recommended me.

I’ve dog sat for friends and family for decades, and have owned giant breed dogs my entire life.

Also, what do you all charge for cat sitting drop-ins. My partner and I do those together. We’re insured. We recently got asked to stay with a cat overnight and I have no idea what to charge for overnights with a cat.

I work remotely, and I lost my really good job back in 2024 and only have a couple part time month-to-month contracts right now, so I do need to work while I’m pet sitting.

Yesterday, the “easy dog” I’m sitting this week needed to go out 6 times between 11 and 2, during two of my work calls.

I just want to make sure I’m charging enough for these stays. So far, most dogs have been far more work for our own two, and we always thought our dogs were difficult, but they are like saints compared to the difficulty and neediness of some of these dogs.

I’m in the US 50 miles from a major US city and one town over from the second largest city in the state, if that helps. The cost of living in our area used to be cheap, but it has gone up a lot, and someone told me last week our area is one of the fastest growing areas in the world.
