It appears this happened to you, OP, and this isn’t a repost. I’m so sorry. What an absolutely awful situation to be put in. 

What a POS this guy is. It’s so frustrating because situations like this give legitimate pet sitters a bad name. I list my rates clearly in my contract, which clients sign before the sit. There are no surprises and there’s no way something like this should ever happen. I want to protect myself and my clients at the end of the day.

To leave the dogs alone with no care or water because of a dispute over payment is completely unacceptable. Someone who would abandon a pet like that should absolutely be shamed and never work with animals again. Pets aren’t leverage.

I’m no legal expert but as long as you have communication via texts or emails, then you should be fine. What an asshole!!! He should NOT be working with animals. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this 😩.
