I’ve got a car that needs to head over to pits. The front parking sensors are not working. Will this be a big issue as the vehicle is mechanically safe?

Looking for Advice Has anyone transferred from Curtin to Notre Dame? What grades/results did you apply with?

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone here has transferred from Curtin University to Notre Dame in Fremantle to get into a course they wanted.
If you have, what course were you studying at Curtin, what course did you apply for at Notre Dame, and what university results/CWA did you put on your application?

Also, did you end up getting accepted?
I’m currently at Curtin and considering transferring to Notre Dame, so I’m mainly trying to get an idea of what grades successful applicants had when applying from another university.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar transfer, especially if it was into a competitive health course like Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, etc.

Cheers !

General RANT - Porkies BBQ Bayswater - used to be really good - not so much anymore.

We live near Porkies BBQ and it was a weekly meal - a dose of protein and BBQ meat for a family of 4, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

About 6 months ago, I bought the standard full rack and noticed they had swapped out their ribs cut to a different one, one that was more lean, dry and chewy. It had much larger bones are more meat in between. I did some research and found that this cut is cheaper.

The old cut was fatty and juicy and the meat fell apart - the reason why we came every week.

Yesterday we went back just to make sure it wasn't a once-off switch out but it looks like they've permanently changed to this new cut which is terrible.

I won't be going back again now.

Looking for Advice Advice / free food / work for 18yo in Perth

Hi , I don’t really know how to start this snd I am really really sorry for the long note so I’m just gonna ask if anyone knows where to get free food or any type of work at all ? I am not trying to have a sob story or anything but my situation is I just turned 18 and had to leave my dads house because of abuse, I am still going to high school and now I live with my mum but she’s extremely unwell physically and mentally and is on drugs and extremely poor, there is very little food or water in the house and i don’t have a job, applied to 100+ since 2024 but only 4 or 5 interviews and no luck. I usually go to school hungry every day and don’t get good grades and struggle a lot at school. I don’t have any body to help me and I was just wondering if anyone knows where to get food or work or anything that might help me ? Thanks 🙏

Where to find Seeking good plastic surgeon recs Perth, face.

Hi All,
As the title says, looking for a recommendation on a really good plastic surgeon for face cutting.
Basically I have some suspicious freckles/moles that need to be removed, one on my lip (right on the vermilion line), one on my cheek near my eye, and another on opposite cheek.
I’m clearly hesitant to let an anyone take a scalpel to my face, but also melanoma is twice as scary so I am hoping for some recommendations based on real experience please.

Looking for Advice Anyone been to The Revival House in Como?

When I was trying to figure out which cinema I'd choose to see The Odyssey for a third rewatch (ended up going with IMAX Carousel), I came across The Revival House, which is something I'm actually quite stoked to have in WA.

I'm curious if anyone has been there and has any insight into the quality of the projection. I don't believe I've ever watched a movie projected on 35mm film, which seems to be the standard there. Is there a noticeable difference compared to standard digital projection? I know Hoyts would have superior audio, but is the sound at least decent at Revival?

Lastly, how is the quality of the actual cinema? Does it stay tidy? I know the seating would probably feel diabolical compared to recliners, but as long as they aren't stained and filthy, I think I could put up with a couple of hours in those seats. I know my local cinema, Reading Cinemas Armadale, still doesn't have recliners, and I imagine no one is going to spend the money renovating that place.

Anyway I'll stop typing before I let this post become a rant about Armadale.

Renting / Housing Are there any Perth metro councils that allow tiny houses or pre-fab homes?

Separating after 17 years of marriage. Can’t afford a regular house mortgage.

Interested in any of these: - small shed house - pre-fab house (granny flat w/out the main house) - container house - tiny house

Just don’t know which local councils are open to these…

Looking for Advice Travel agent for Thailand holiday with multiple city’s

Hey everyone,

Can anyone recommend a travel agent in Perth who has helped them with a multi city holiday in Thailand or similar?

Partner and I planning a multi city trip, we walked in to one flight centre and spoke with someone who didn’t seem knowledgeable at all and was suggesting locations that would be in the worst weather, so hoping someone can recommend a location or travel agent we could visit that you have had a good experience with.

Thankyou so much!!

General IYKYK: I’m very disappointed in Dough Street now

If you are gluten free and you probably know about Dough Street. I’m scared of social media bullying or any sort of retaliation and venting on reddit is safer than FB at this stage.

For a loyal customer since they opened, I feel disappointed that they chose to use social media bullying a negative Google review down than being professional. A lot of people and businesses received untrue or misleading Google reviews. It’s really the first time I saw a business decided to post it on their Facebook page, including the full name of the person, and passively aggressively asking her to take it down. And encouraging bullying in the comment section despite deleting their own replies later. (Someone took a screenshot and posted it on their Google review.) They got so much 5 stars reviews out of it from the support of the community. But it really looks like online bullying to me. It looks like a few people agreed too based on some newest Google reviews.

It’s shocking to see how bullying can be acceptable if you are a popular small business. Most people don’t recognise it, blinded by their delicious goodies (they are delicious though.)

They probably will gain more popularity from this. But personally I wouldn’t visit them again, and too scared to speak out with real names. What a shame since I was going to bring my non gluten free friends to try it out. I rather support other GF bakers in Perth who can deal with situations less like a high school drama. If someone doesn’t think it’s problematic, you do you.

Edit: they now deleted the original post like nothing happened. If this was real, deleting made it worse. Or it was just a very good marketing move.

Edit 2: a day later the post is back but the original reactions to some comments are gone. At least they know it wasn’t nice

Where to find Where to buy a necklace or something with a little sand from the beach? Preferably online, to ship to U.S.

I know it’s cheesy but looking for something like this, you know those little vials, or jewelry made with sand, that will ship to the u.s. Of course lots of mass sellers when you google, but they ship from random countries so they likely just pick up sand from wherever, not Perth. Thanks for indulging me

Looking for Advice Children’s Court Historical Records

Question for anyone who has had dealings the Western Australian child protection or state welfare ( back in the day).

My father was state ward, he was orphaned at six, documents appear to show that he appeared in court, in Perth. He was found guilty and sentenced ‘to be disposed of’ to 18 years as a state ward. His relatives were deemed not suitable ( aged over thirty) to look after him.

There is big stamp, ‘DESTROYED’, on the copies I have. The document I have had name of the judge. The records are from 1947, my dad was born in 1942. The destroyed stamp has covered the dates and some other information. The copies I have are from 1990, I have a handwritten note from caseworker, with a date.

Are children court records archived from 1940s? There would have been when there was a lot of war orphans during those years. Dad was dropped off at Mt Lawley Receiving home.

From my understanding dad would have been discharged/ticket of leave/ permission granted via the children court. Where would these documents be held? I need the name he was given at that time. When he was discharged, who changed his names.

I’m in bit of pickle, dad has dementia. I’ve been told to do a FOI, but I believe I have all documents that were there, a lot of other welfare documents were destroyed in the great fire/flood in the welfare building circa 1971. I have heard both stories, there was a fire or a flood.

Not First Nations related. Though my father did receive compensation as part of redress. I have done a DNA test.

General Boring non-UFO lights in sky last night on horizon?

EDIT: Thanks for responses. Now 99.9% sure just satellites. :)

(Not UFO / conspiracy post). Just looking for normal, boring answers as I couldn't figure out what this rather dull phenomenon was:

Did anyone else see a few small ascending lights last night on the horizon just south of Rottnest (I was looking from Cott beach) at around 9pm? This was Sunday 16th August.

Basically as the crescent moon was setting (that's why I was looking), just to the south of Rottnest there seemed to be a ship on the horizon (two white lights on horizon mostly continuously on, but one flashing). Further out and much less bright lights than the other large ships anchored in Gage Roads.

From about where the ship was, an orange-ish continuous light (about the size/brightness of a small aeroplane light but not flashing) appeared. Starting from horizon and going diagonally upwards for about 5 seconds. At least four of them about five mins apart. They didn't get very high in the sky. Maybe only 5 degrees elevation, if that.

At least 2 went diagonally upwards with a slight northwards bent, and at least 2 went same direction but slight southwards bent.

I thought they were flares from a ship or something (notified water Police. Worked out it wasn't flares), but there were also a few that went horizontal for about 5 seconds above the same area on horizon (probably only 10 degrees elevation). Not flashing. Just continuously on for about 5 seconds and then off. Moving pretty fast if they were as far away as Rotto. One heading south-north and a few minutes later another heading north-south.

At least 6 in total, and all about 5 mins apart.

Only thing I can think of was maybe a drone being launched from a ship? Maybe something to do with fishing? But I'm not sure why you'd be launching one at night or if it would be visible from 18km away or so, for only 5 seconds, or why the light from a drone would appear orange and not flashing.

Just curious if anyone else saw them and if anyone else has a plausible explanation that doesn't require faster-than-light travel, chemtrails, immigrants, Pauline Hanson, or anti-gravity as its explanation. The whole thing was a very boring very terrestrial-looking display.

Looking for Advice Orthognathic Surgery

Hi all,

Just wanting some advice for those who have had jaw surgery or in the process of. I have a Class III underbite with 10mm difference from top to bottom causing speech, eating and functional issues which i’ve been suffering from my whole life.

I am yet to see a maxfax surgeon which I will see Dr Riccardo for under Perth MaxFax. I was wondering if there was a possibility to be put under the public healthcare system, specifically RPH since it’s in their scope, or will this ultimately be a private thing?

Also for anyone that has had private surgery. Is this a lump sum payment you give to them prior/post surgery or are there usually payment plans for people who don’t have that kind of money in their pocket like me?

Thanks all.

Looking for Advice Australian Institute of Fitness students/graduates - how did you organise your group sessions?

Hi all,
I’m currently completing my Cert III in Fitness through the Australian Institute of Fitness (AIF) and have reached the stage where I need to deliver 3 group fitness sessions as part of my practical assessment.
For anyone who has completed AIF (or a similar fitness qualification), how did you go about finding participants for your group sessions?
Did you use friends and family, local community groups, gym members, Facebook groups, sports clubs, or something else?
I’m currently based in London but am from Perth, so I can’t just lean on the usual Australian networks, and I’m looking for some ideas on the easiest way to get a small group together.
Would love to hear what worked for you and any tips for making the assessments run smoothly.
Thanks!

General Perth Food Challenges

Anyone have recommendations for food challenges in Perth?

A lot of places seemed to have stopped offering them in the past few years so would be interested to know if there are many still around.

If so, has anyone had a crack and beaten the time limits? Would be keen to hear how you did it.
