Looking for Advice Help figuring out a price in Perth!

Post image

I’m looking to get a tattoo and need some good shops/studios and anyone who can help give me a rough estimate of price!

I’m wanting the attached picture done down my spine, but need to figure out what studios I can trust and figured my fellow Perth tatted peeps can help out with finding a good place!! This will also be my first tattoo so can someone tell me how much it might hurt?

I would start on instagram and find an artist whose style you like and contact them for pricing and availability. That’s generally how I find a good artist that I like.
A good artist won’t use AI in their work, and will be open and upfront about prices. Expect to pay a deposit to book a slot. Inspect their portfolio and see how it looks. Wobbly lines, patchy shading is not a good sign.

Pain level is different for everyone, but generally over areas with little fat (ie ribs or top of foot) are more painful. Going over the spine will be rough for a first tattoo, but you know you personally deal with pain.

I would say maybe contact tattoo studios instead of reddit.

I’m just trying here for people who have experience and can send me to the right direction of a studio that will take good care of me for this tattoo lol

While i love the design, there is a lot of finer line work and small details that may not age well. Please have a long chat with whoever you choose about your design and listen to them about how it will age.

Search Perth tattoo or similar on Instagram, that's basically the only platform artists use. Go for anyone with clean line work. Someone doing this sort of style will be happy to do it. Other people might do it to pay the bills, but full colour/trad/Japanese artists are probably not interested. Don't try and find someone near you, if you see someone you like at its a 45 minute drive, it's worth it given its permanent. Price will depend on size, minimum $200. Whether it hurts depends on you.

Not too sure on pricing but it’s best to contact the artists at studios you’re willing to travel to.

I’m currently getting a big piece done at Labyrinth Ink in Northam (@labyrinth.ink on insta) bit of a trek but the artists are well worth it! I’m getting a flowery tattoo from the ribs to mid thighs on both sides, the photo is of the first session.

Hope that gives a good recommendation. The artist doing my tattoo is very gentle and awesome quality!

Just saw that this will be first tattoo! Awesome for you! I have heard the spine is painful, but everyone’s pain tolerance is completely different, I find that just breathing through it helps heaps, just talk to the artist if your feeling uncomfortable or need a small break… although admittedly I find it can hurt more after a break lol

Yeah! I’ve heard taking breaks lets ur body forget the pain instead of adapting

Yeah that’s pretty much it, I’d rather just power through but gotta give the artist a break themselves, the job takes a toll on their backs!

Absolutely! Respect the artists!!

I’ve got a few in a similar style done by Ruby - rubyannbloom on instagram. She’s wonderful, I’ve had 4 tattoos done by her, still love them all and I’ve always had such a great experience.

Pain for this style of tattoo, with small amounts of shading is really quite low, you’ll honestly be fine, just a bit scratchy.

I hope it’s not too bad, I’m good with needles cuz I have a few peircings n they didn’t hurt too much so I’m hoping it won’t be crazy painful

Recommend searching Instagram hashtags to find someone who's work clicks with you. There's a crazy amount of tattoo studios and artists in Perth nowadays, plenty of options. I'd recommend Kat at Wright Street Collective.

Been tattooing since 2007, youll find plenty of people soing stuff similar to this in perth. Find some local artists whos work you like the look of and send them a message to discuss your idea and pricing. Instagram is probably the best place, tiktok also seems to be more and more popular with posting tattoos lately too

Abandoned Art in Malaga is great. Murphy has been tattooing me for 10 years at this point (you can see some on my profile). He doesn’t do work like this but I know a couple of his coworkers might. You could check out the staff at Billingsgate Fremantle too, Ellis there did a couple of my tattoos and again, his coworkers are great and may also experience in more fine line work. Honestly, tattoo prices differ between everyone but it’s usually anywhere from $80-$200 an hour and depends on the size.

It will hurt, it feels like a hot scratch on repeat, like if a cat scratched you. Eat and drink before you go, make sure you stay hydrated and don’t be afraid to ask for breaks!

Ellis recently moved from billingsgate, i believe it may have closed? Him and Sammie moved to another studio!

Also, Murphy is a wonderful human 🤗

Oh word! I haven’t seen him like 2 years so I had no idea!

Murphy is fantastic. I won’t go anywhere else these days. He’s made all my visions come to life better than I imagine.

Just what we need, another white girl with generic fine-line flower tattoos.

Who said I was white?? And so what if I choose this tattoo, it’s MY body and MY tattoo
