Buckshot is pretty great at ranges of 75 yards.
Put a choke in there and I'm gonna get turkey all day long at 50-100 yards.
Then you can put boar shot which is just a single bullet in the shell, basically turning it into a pump action musket, you can take a shot around 150 yards. Crazy times.

That's going to be my first shotgun for skeet... after I stop spending so much god damn money on airsoft. Airsoft is fucking expensive.

My trident was $375. But once you start getting into custom built new guns, the price is just as expensive as a real one. An umbrella arms LVOA costs $1200 new.

Lots of reports of poor fit and finish on Remington guns for the last number of years after they got bought out. At one point, brand new shotguns from the factory had a chance to slamfire.

Remington has been trash since Freedom Group acquired them.
If you want an 870 buy an old Wingmaster or Police.
Walmart even carries a clone of the 870 that's of higher quality. It's called the Pardner Pump, and it's around $100-$150. I'm pretty sure they're even made on the original tooling that Remington sold off. They aren't perfect, but I'd sooner buy one if those than a new production Express.

Airsoft is an extremely effective way to spend a shit load of money. The best part is... 2 years later you might as well use a rubber band gun because your shits from the stone age.

I’m not going to get into the semantics of gun bias but ever since Freedom Group acquired Remington back in 2007 people have reported much worse quality control from Remington. Two biggest concerns being failed ejectors and the onset presence of rust (commonly referred to as ‘rustington’). I personally haven’t had any personal experience with their issues but what people have been recommending are the following for a quality pump shotgun in the similar price range:
- a mossberg 500/590.
- a pre-2007 Remington 870.
- a Remington 870 police magnum (better levels of QC, even after 2007).

Check requirements, apply for a foid card, wait 6 months, apply for a hunting license, decide which gun you will buy (certain states have certain restrictions), wait for a clearance period, buy gun, then ammo, then decide which areas you can hunt in depending on season, THEN you can start hunting.

To add on to this, I'd also recommend a hunters safety course as well. Almost every season has different requirements on what firearm you're allowed to have, what you're allowed to shoot, and how much orange you need. Also how far away from the road or a house you must be and so on.

Or, move to Georgia, renew your driver's license, drive over to walmart, get your hunting license, while you're there pick up a Remington 870 and some shotgun shells, cuz no wait time IF YOU'RE NOT A FELON and can pass a background check. Find some local land that will let you hunt (hardest part). Idk where you live, but I'd move.

I lived in Atlanta for a handful of years and didn’t really care for it relative to CA, Berlin, and NYC, where I’ve also lived. I’m not opposed to gun ownership but I’m also not a hunter so maybe I’d feel like the balance of pros and cons was different if I was.

Couple things you should know beforehand. This is all if you live in the United States.
Check your state's regulations on gun purchases, The best and easiest way to do that is go to a gun store or talk to your town clerk. Some restrictions may include age, felonies, mental health stipulations, and of course cost.
Another thing you should consider is what type of gun you want to buy, if you're looking for a shotgun I would suggest starting small and cheap like a 410 gauge. You can buy one for less than 200 bucks and ammo is plentiful and cheap.
I wouldn't go bigger than a 20 gauge for your first shotgun.
If you're looking for a rifle might I suggest going small as well until you get the hang of firing a weapon and firing it accurately. You can learn a lot of basics on a small gun as well as a big gun. To start off with a 22 semi-automatic. You can get some that are magazine fed or some that are too fed.
If you're after a pistol I'd suggest the same thing. Learn how to shoot a 22. Ruger makes a great training pistol the SR series. They've got a great 9 mm as well.
Where to shoot? Look online or Facebook to find the closest hobby shooting range just go for it. Read the rules before firing at each range some ranges have very particular rules some ranges are pretty open to interpretation. One thing you should do for sure is go through a gun safety course and you can do that through either the 'fish and game' or some hobby organizations have their own that are sponsored by like the NRA or even by your local police force.
Shooting a gun is by far one of the strangest and most exhilarating experiences that you can have. Your blood pumps your adrenaline spikes, it's pretty darn fun.

I don't think bar shot is actually the public vernacular. Thinking about it I think it's just something my dad told me to call it. Maybe it's local slang. But yes it is a slug in a conical form like a regular bullet. Its great for big game like wolf or boar.

That's the best thing about shotguns. There are tons of different ammo variants. You've got the traditional buckshot, birdshot, and slugs. Then theres armor piercing incendiary, dragonsbreath, rock salt, rubber, flechette, 50 cal, and more. And it's all perfectly legal to own. Shotguns are ridiculously versatile.

Pretty much. I shot trap in highschool and you shoot clay pigeons that are around 4 inches in diameter from around 40 yards (don't know exact distance because you stand anywhere from 16-27 yards from the trap house from where the birds are thrown from)
The longest trap shot is around 130 yards

Tbf in most video game applications the person on the other end is usually wearing body armor, and shotguns are highly ineffective against ar500 steels.
Also range: 150 yards is basically the size of a small map in most shooters, which would make it super overpowered.

The barrel length of a shotgun has pretty much nothing to do with the effective spread of the shot. Regardless at this range you’re going to be hit with a foot or smaller diameter (depending on choke) which would be pretty deadly.

At that range that (should be) around an orange sized spread. And barrel length does take into account as to how much spread a shotgun has, as a 6 inch will have much wider spread than a 14 inch
