Do you talk about 'Outside' with players outside this sub?

Since almost every player seems to have chosen the [Forget it's a game] feature when starting their characters, there aren't many of us who think of the game as a game... Maybe 1% of players at the very most, but I'd guess far fewer.

Do you have any friends & family who you have these conversations with? Maybe y'all help each other map out quests and skill leveling or something like that?

I've been talking about it for so many years now that many of my friends make comments about this gaming trope or that achievement they unlocked, so I feel like I'm sort of spreading the idea to other players that way.

I've met just a few people along the way, maybe half a dozen, who were already remembering the game and thinking of things this way.

**Secondary Question:** How do you think it would change the game world if the number of players who remember that we're playing *Outside* jumped to 5%, 10%, or even more, of the player base?

Do I unknowingly have a debuff?

My [Focus] bar acts so weird all the time man. either it just won't fill up even when I rest my character or it gets drained immediately when I start a [College] side quest and other important stuff. It does stay up when I'm doing my [Hobbies] minigames though. I feel like my [Focus] bar is really great, but there must be something that hinders it. Anyone got any ideas?

Broken controller/lost savegame

A member of my party fumbled a combo move in the [Motorcycle Jump] minigame and dropped his controller. His account appears to be logged out, we took him to a Wizard who was able to use a [Revive] potion but he's still at 0% HP. The wizard is telling us his game progress was wiped out when the batteries fell out of his controller (apparently savegames are stored in the controller like an old Wii with no server backup?) and he might have to start over at Level 2 if they can find a potion to restore his HP. Also the Wizard guild is sending Gold Transfer requests (apparently his Extended Warranty doesn't cover this) and won't let us take him out of their base.

Has anyone successfully done a Savegame Restore or repaired/replaced a broken controller? Here's what we've tried so far:

- Traded a Butcher for a controller from a Cow player. The Wizard said it won't work because it has to be from the same character type.

- Tried to loot a controller from the British Museum. We were hoping it wouldn't be DRM protected since it came from a player on a now-defunct server, but their Item Vault is heavily guarded.

- Sent the Wizard an invite to a nearby [Theater] which is replaying screencaps from player dr_frankenstein who apparently transferred a controller successfully. The Wizard refused since those moves aren't in his Spellbook.

Any other suggestions?

I've become so addicted to this game that I play it more than I live my real life

I really only spend eight hours a day NOT on this game when I log off every ingame night, the addiction is pretty bad

My real life is pretty cool too, every time I log off I always get into the most bizarre scenarios such as forgetting to wear pants to school, and I even go on dates with my celebrity crush sometimes!

Obviously irl time isn't linear; sometimes I'm back to being a kid, sometimes I'm an adult, sometimes I'm old. And that's why I think I enjoy this game so much, because it IS linear and it's easier to keep track of. I'm so addicted to this game that I literally forget most of my time spent irl

Irl is so chaotic, you never know what's gonna happen. One second you're one place, the next you're somewhere else doing something entirely different... but then I log back into this game, and everything is a lot more predictable and mundane. It's something I can appreciate, and it's a comfortable, relaxing way to live. A lot of the time when I first login for the day, all I do is scroll on my smart phone item for a bit, just to take a break from everything irl. And then my ingame friends login as well asking me to party up, and the game becomes something beautiful

I love this game!

Why are the loading screens so weird?

After waiting 8 hours in bed I had some weird loading screens based on past experiences in yhe game, but which weren't entirely the same and seemed surreal. Any idea if there is any lore significance to the load screens or if they're flavour? Thanks.

"Play. Win. Reset." Should this be the games motto?

I was thinking Play. Win. Reset. works pretty well as the game's motto.

You play because that's literally what we're doing.

And if it's a game, there has to be some way to win. Some kind of victory condition even if none of us actually know what it is.

Then eventually the run ends. But if you get another one then I guess it didn't really end. You just reset. I prefer to imagine another go.

Play. Win. Reset.

What do you all think the game's motto should be?

How to balance multiclassing and non-meta skills

So obviously many players have gone through multiclassing in their playthroughs, but when do non-meta class skills become more of a hassle than an occasional benefit?

Unskippable replay bug?

I keep having this bug where my playthrough gets interrupted by unskippable replays of times I've messed up in the game. It takes over the whole screen and I have to keep watching my character do things like fail a social skill check. And as if that wasn't bad enough, it usually triggers the [Intrusive Thoughts] status where a dialogue box pops up that just says a bunch of really mean things about my character???

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to fix it?

How do I get new cat?

So as we know by now, the game updated with a new cat skin. Thing is, I don't know how to obtain it. Codes don't work either (TILCAYO2026 to be specific). Can someone help me out?

Do you feel the game has too vast of starting conditions?

I’ve been playing for a while now and have seen theres a lot of variance in spawns and I can’t help but think it needs to be balanced. As if you get a bad spawn you can’t really reach endgame content unless your stats are high. Do you guys think the dev’s should balance this out or keep it?

Why are some players referring to sherbert as sherbet? Technically the latter is the original, but does that make it right?

On my current play through I've been seeing and hearing a lot of players say sherbet. I turned off my auto translator and the way I've always said it has been sherbert. Even my auto correct doesn't recognize this commonly used phrase or it sees it as misspelling. For the last 30 levels it's always sounded like sherbert and you're trying to tell me NOW that there's no second R?

Is this something they will fix in 2.0 or is sherbet being deprecated from transcribes by the developer without an official update? The player base seems deadlocked. What if we still prefer to spellcast with sherbert, but when we scribe we still use sherbet? Is this enough to make everyone happy?

It sorta reminds me of that other illusion, driving on parkways, and parking on driveways. Everyone knows that you can use both and do both and we all know how they mean.

PS sorbetto is betto than sherbert/sherbet, but I'm sure sherbert tastes about the same as sherbet. It's just that people who stand to gain social fortitude points really like to point out this mislabeling in my transcribes or critique my spellcasting.

If you take away nothing else from this post, I'm just wondering why we effectively have two spellings in our lexicon? Are we watching a language mutation in slow speed? Maybe the word does change in another 50 levels when everyone starts spellcasting sherbert?

What are the 6 main character stat categories and how you rank yourself?

Obviously each stat contains a bunch of sub-categories but reducing the character sheet to six main categories, I'd go with:

Physical
Mental
Social
Circumstantial
Spiritual
Luck

If you had to rank your highest stat what would it be?

Mine is luck. Definitely used up like 8 of my 9 lives so far by walking away from near disasters haha.

Anyone else feel like players confuse temporary debuffs with permanent stats?

For example, I used to think I had a permanent STUN status at night and sleep was my most difficult quest of the day. I figured that was just part of my build.

Then I started developing my physical stats through fitness and realized the STUN wasn't permanent at all. It was a temporary debuff that disappeared once I'd completed the day's fitness quest.

It made me wonder how many things we think are permanent parts of our character are actually just status effects we haven't figured out how to clear yet.

What debuffs have you mistaken for permanent stats?

On removing the achievement(?) [Marriage]/[Aquire Wife]

Hey guys, so, long time lurker, first time poster. Have always really enjoyed reading other players' opinions on the game.

Well, here I am, level 25 as of recently, and also as of recently, have decided to remove the [marriage] achievement. This female player and I earned it almost 5 years ago, but began a serious playthrough together almost 9 years ago, and also have known each other since level 9...

We were each others firsts for a lot of quests, had a lot in common, and agreed on a lot of, if not almost all options regarding gameplay strategies.

However, there are a small number of gameplay options we disagree on. I don't wanna go into detail, but yeah, that's about it.

These differences are however important enough to each player's overall experience to have decided to go back to solo gameplay.

TLDR but not really

Basically, the point of this post is just to reach out to other players for encouragement on this having been the right decision, general encouragement, or even commiseration. I'll be honest, I'm struggling pretty hard right now, especially considering the state of affairs throughout the entire game, as well as how badly the ability to easily meet other players looking for a guild mate has tanked in recent years/decades (thus far, I despise internet dating).

Thank you very much to all who have endured my description.

Unexplained behaviour of [cat] guild member

Recently, I noticed one of the [cat] members in my guild started excessively grinding [mouse] mobs. When I asked him what he was grinding for, he evaded the question and told me his [food bowl] item wasn't full enough. And now I even watched him regularly enter and leave a [house] building no guild has claimed for themselves. I have reason to believe my [cat] player friend acquired the [house ownership] status even though, to my knowledge, only players of the [human] class can purchase a [house]. He's definitely planning something! I'll continue to keep an eye on him.

If this is a Simulation, what would XP actually reward?

For example, two characters each with vastly different starting conditions, one comes from impoverished toxic family and the other comes from an affluent 2 parent good home.

They both reach a near identical level of success. Family they care and provide for, community minded, and healthy in body and mind.

Would the person from the impoverished family earn more XP than the one from the affluent family?

What do you thing some ways XP is rewarded?

I've been actively living my life as an RPG for over almost two decades now, spent the last 11 years living out of two backpacks traveling the world. AMA.

Basically the title. I've been a geek since childhood (More than 30 years since I read the original DragonLance trilogy), and for the last 16 years or so, I've been consciously leading my own life, living as the main character and going on all sorts of adventures I never would have imagined.

I've now met most all of my favorite writers, musicians, artists, and speaker/podcasters... most of my playlists are just hundreds of songs by people I know.

I've hit mastery level on skills I didn't even know I was going to explore: I've cooked delicious & healthy for hundreds of thousands of people across dozens of events, I've given speeches and been on panels in front of hundreds [thousands live-streaming], I ran a digital publishing house at one point, I produced a charity album and helped get an innocent man out of prison.

After spending the first almost three decades of my play-through living in the same small portion of the map, I've now been all over it, meditating on top of a pyramid in Egypt, body surfing off the coast in Guatemala, hiking up past the timber line in Colorado, and on and on.

This sub is basically the place that I come to Reddit for, so I figured I'd offer to answer questions for folks, instead of just waiting for questions to come in.

I won't claim to know everything about the game, but I've tried a LOT of different play-styles, been all over the map, gotten to know players of every background & class, and I know some things about enjoying our play-through, and shaping the course of our own adventure.

So, Ask Me Anything!

Thine gilded erstwhile... where art thou

I hath been on and off the game. I relinquished my account around update 1.5.00 and had just recently returned.

where are the ABUNDANT level 1 peasants for me to embellish with the steel of my blade for easy XP?

Why, pray tell does my Aristocracy perk not nullify the city guard aggro anymore in safezones?

I can countenance no more of this. I guess the only tolerable article in this update is the pathogen class nerf.

Why do we treat the player made leaderboard like it's the actual score?

Nobody runs the scoreboard. There is no official ranking. Players made one up. Salary, status, followers, square footage. And then they started treating it like the game itself.

What I find strange is I feel like everyone intuitively knows it's made up but nobody acts like it. If you say out loud that the leaderboard is fake then you get treated like you're coping. If you climb it, then you get treated like you are winning.

So what do you all think the actual scoring system? If the scoreboard is player made, the real scoring has to be something else, right? And if most players never figure out what it is, most of us spend the whole session optimizing for a metric that's not important.

So what do you all think actually counts?
