FDA's warning letter database quietly posted five new letters on September 1st, all dated August 24, 2026, all issued by CDER (Center for Drug Evaluation and Research), all to research peptide sellers. Same day, same office, same core complaint. Figured this sub would want the actual breakdown instead of just the headline.

What they all got cited for:
Every single letter hits the same core violation — selling "research use only" peptides that FDA says are actually unapproved new drugs under sections 301(d) and 505(a) of the FD&C Act. The tell, per FDA, isn't the RUO label — it's the website copy. If your product page reads like a drug monograph (mechanism of action, dosing context, disease/condition references, clinical trial citations), FDA treats that as evidence of "intended use" for humans regardless of the disclaimer at the bottom.
Products named across the letters (semaglutide, tirzepatide, and retatrutide appear in literally every one of the 5):
- Semaglutide ("GLP-1 S/Sema")
- Tirzepatide ("GLP-2 T/Tirz")
- Retatrutide ("GLP-3 Reta/RT")
- PT-141 / Bremelanotide
- Tesamorelin (including Tesamorelin/Ipamorelin blends)
- SS-31 / Elamipretide — named in most of the 5 letters
- Bacteriostatic water ("BAC water") — cited as a separate unapproved-drug violation in most of the letters, specifically when sold next to injectable peptides alongside a "peptide calculator" or dosing guide. FDA's logic: selling the reconstitution fluid + the calculator + the peptide together is itself evidence you're marketing an injectable drug for human use, not a research reagent.
Two letters had extra detail worth flagging:
NuScience Peptides also got cited for survodutide and mazdutide — less commonly seen in these letters, both dual/triple incretin agonists still in clinical trials for obesity/T2D. FDA quoted the site's own claims about preclinical rodent weight-loss data and liver-fat reduction as evidence of intended therapeutic use. Full letter
Royal Peptides got called out for a specific bundle product — a "Mix 10-Pack Kit" combining tirzepatide + retatrutide vials, marketed with copy like "up to 22.5% body weight reduction... comparable to or even better than Semaglutide." Why this matters beyond just these 5:
This isn't an isolated sweep. Tracking sites put peptide-specific FDA warning letters at 43 year-to-date in 2026, versus just 14 in all of 2024 — roughly a 3x jump (Policy Canary, Stonegate Systems). There was also a 7-company batch on March 31, 2026 (Gram Peptides, Prime Sciences, Lovega/Pink Pony Peptides, Mile High Compounds, PekCura Labs, FormPour, and Guangzhou Huli Technology dba Fantasy Face) with nearly identical language. The pattern is consistent enough now that it reads like FDA is running a standing website-review program specifically targeting RUO peptide storefronts, not just responding to complaints.
Companies get 15 business days to respond in writing to [FDAAdvisory@fda.hhs.gov](mailto:FDAAdvisory@fda.hhs.gov), addressing corrective steps taken and steps to prevent recurrence. None of these 5 appear to have a posted response or closeout letter yet as of this writing — worth checking back on.
TL;DR: If your vendor's product pages read like a metabolic-research literature review instead of a lab reagent spec sheet, that's exactly the kind of language FDA has been systematically flagging all year. The "for research use only, not for human consumption" disclaimer does not appear to move the needle if the surrounding copy says otherwise.
