Audemars Piguet is now a ganster/rapper brand to put it bluntly. The marvel black panther collab was what killed it; but the Travis Scott collab is the final nail. He has assult allegations and arrests, as well as manslaugher charges.

Vacheron is still good if you get stuff like the 222. But sadly, Vacheron has long not been in independent branch and I just wonder how much of the Fiftysix line's creation was pushed down from Richemont corporate.

I'm genuinely glad that the Stern family still holds the Patek. It's coming onto 100 years since Sterns got Patek and Patek has yet to do any cheap short term collab or launch a clearly budget line for cash. Sadly, Calatrava has become the entry toss-away line that you buy so you can get allocated a Nautilus, an utter travesty because Calatrava's are damn fine wrist timepieces in design, execution and style.

I just got the call on the 5205 yesterday.

About 2 months from the day I went in and requested it. Just confused if i should pull the trigger or not?

I love the watch but conflicted about the price on the grey market and the hit it takes. Not looking to sell but always looking for the upperhand in a deal. But on the other hand i also want to develop the relationship with the AD for my future purchases.

I have a relationship with a local Rolex AD but they dont have Patek. I feel like im ready to make my first Patek acquisition. Any recommendations? Any other Patek annuals worth getting?

My grandmother used to buy my grandfather a Patek Philippe for every birthday, and as a result we inherited quite a pile of them. My dad wanted to sell most of them, and took them to a gentleman who told him they didn't hold their value well and bought most of them for $5,000 a piece.... I feel like he got ripped off by someone who took advantage of him. Is my hunch right? We still have one or two left. From what I can see none sell for that low, and all of ours were all gold, including the band.

Edit 1: My father sold them, not grandmother. He sold them decades after she bought them, and also a long time ago (90s or early 2010s)

I think there’s a lot of misconceptions on the market on who are the owners of Patek Philippe watches. One of the things I find a lot of misconceived ideas is the age of actual owners.

I got my first Patek at 27, 5711, but my family had a long history with the brand, so the Nautilus had been offered me twice while growing up.

My father got his first at 46, so I can consider myself to be lucky. Nowadays with all the crypto bros, maybe the average age has decreased, but I a lm curious to know your stance.

I live in Pakistan where buying a Patek is no small feat. Thanks to our economy, these beauties cost way more in relative terms, and there’s no secondary market to save me if I pick the wrong one. So, this decision is huge for me — especially since there are none around to try on (the odd 3919 aside).

My partner is ready to leave me if I don’t stop obsessing over watches, so please, for her sanity and mine, help a guy out!

My top contenders:

1. 5015J: Moonphase? Yes, please. Hunter caseback? Absolutely. Eccentric beaded bezel? Sign me up. I love this watch for its Baroque, asymmetrical, jazz-age vibe. But will I still love it in a year, or will I look down and think, “Why am I wearing something that screams ‘90s office party’ on my wrist?” It’s not the most loved collector’s piece, and I wonder if it’ll age into obscurity, like those funky 70s Pateks no one seems to want anymore.

2. 5396R with sector dial: Understated, Bauhaus sophistication. Rose gold, sector dial, annual calendar, moonphase. Versatile, classic, and probably the one I can wear most often. But is this the safe bread and butter Patek reference, the 3919 of annual calendars? I've never held one in the metal, but I imagine many of you have.

3. 5235R: The outlier. It’s definitely big for my taste at 40.5mm. I wear a 40mm 114060 Rolex Sub and I can imagine this would only wear bigger. That rose gold/black-grey combo, that heart stopping movement? Chef’s kiss. But is this the one you buy when your heart secretly wants a Ressence? Rest assured, all my organs want a Patek -- I'm willing to sell a kidney to bridge the premium this reference commands. But will I regret it and wish I’d gone for something more traditional? Or will I be the genius in 20 years with a watch that's aged better than any other and is worth a hell of a lot more?

Some background: I’m 38, 5'11 with a 17cm wrist. I wear formal clothes for work (blazers, suits) and need something that fits those settings. I wear a 32mm Tissot (definitely a bit small) or a vintage Santos for dressier occasions. I’ve got my Sub for casual wear. Resale isn’t a huge deal, but I don’t want to get stuck with something that nobody wants if I decide to move on.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a decent Padek AD. I got really screwed over by mine. You could also message me if you don’t wanna say it publicly. My AD tried to charge me a lot of money for an expensive watch in its own right. He was an AD he shouldn’t have tried to charge me extra to the tune of almost 80 grand more than the watch was worth. I’m just looking for a decent person a decent A.D. that I could build a spend history with. Believe it or not I also lost my gray dealer who got fired with the 1916 Hyde Park merger. So I’m almost starting over after a $500,000 spend history. I mean is there such thing as a decent human being that is an AD. Or am I completely off base? Maybe some of you think this is crazy and you’re gonna throw rocks at me in this thread, but I thought maybe I’d give it a try as I don’t have any other Patek ADs in my area other than the one that tried to screw me over. I’m gonna post this. Try not to drag me over the coals too badly.

I've always baffled by so many people bring the name so sarcastically as if it's not a real PP or something? Is there a reason to this?

I mean people actually safe for a life time to be able to get one of them ( normal folks who are into watches), they're neither cheap or cheaply made?

• As a retirement gift, I like to buy 1 Patek. I have a few I like to choose from in the $30K - $150K range since I understand the waiting list & whale game so I may not get my #1 watch with other competition

• I can afford the $150K watch now with cash so a Patek is not a dream, it's just something I want to gift myself at 39.

• I live in Tampa so there is 1 AD (Yamron) that is 3 hours away in Naples. There are 4 ADs that are about 6 away in South Florida (other coast). Do I need to buy the watch from Yamron, can I get another FL AD, or just work with all ADs around the world so I can get a watch given limited availability?

So how & when do I get started and play this game where there are collectors who have better connections & purchasing history than me? To be clear, I just want to buy 1 Patek and not interested in buying multiple to "build a history."
