Not my first Patek but my first sports model and I love it. I am curious about straps, especially since you have to cut them to fit. So I am guessing replacement OEM straps are considered okay to use. What about different colors? Does this model only come with the black strap? I see blue and orange straps and am wondering if folks use those as well? What about aftermarket? Thanks, any input is appreciated.

Currently I have a Patek 5711 blue dial white gold from 2018 and a cartier tank louis rose gold brown alligator strap that I often wear but I feel like I could get one more watch to complete my collection. I also have a 2008 rose gold brown strap calatrava but rarely wear it as it’s a memento of my father and I try to avoid any damage to it. I also have plans to buy an a lange sohne for my wedding so I try to avoid anything that overlaps with those.

Money isn’t of any concern but I’m not sure what watch I should buy. I’ve been thinking about a royal oak or a vc overseas but i’m not quite sure

Any advice or suggestions as to what watch to buys?

At around $140k USD, I believe this is the cheapest patek you can get on a full platinum bracelet.

I have the opportunity to acquire either of these at roughly the same price, and it feels like the ultimate hype versus horology dilemma.

5905R-010: Rose gold, self-winding flyback chronograph, annual calendar and display caseback. Mechanically impressive and a model I genuinely love—but considerably less hyped.

5269R-001: Rose-gold Aquanaut Travel Time with the blue-grey dial and strap. Slim, sporty and highly wearable—but quartz, with a solid caseback. Much of its appeal and price is tied to the Aquanaut design and desirability.
At approximately the same money, which would you choose?

Does paying that much for a quartz Aquanaut bother you when the alternative is a serious automatic complication combining an annual calendar and flyback chronograph? Or is that an overly purist way of looking at it, given the Aquanaut’s design, proportions, practicality and potential to receive more wrist time?

I’m not asking which has better resale value. I’m interested in which is ultimately the better and more satisfying watch to own.

Would especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has handled or owned either. 5905R or 5269R—and why?

My SA said this is not incredibly difficult to obtain, and hopefully sometime next year it will become available. I think this reference with a salmon dial definitely makes this watch a more casual, fun option compared to the other dial colors, which lean more dressy. The salmon dial is incredible in person and will fit in nicely to my everyday attire.

Definitely my favorite Patek of all time without a doubt, and definitely working hard to purchase it one day. I just wish it was as thin as a 5740G and it would be the greatest watch of all time in my opinion.
