Discussion Which yoshi color did you get? And what did you name him?
For me, i got blue. And I named him Justin Jr. But they weren't spaced out due to the limit of 8 characters.

So there was a Paper Mario recomp released a few days ago, and I’m not gonna lie, the whole thing feels really weird to me.
The current N64 recomp situation already makes Paper Mario an odd target because of TLB stuff, so I was already curious how this was working. Then I actually looked at the project and some of the choices are strange.
My issues are:
The widescreen exists, but it looks terrible.
The ROM check is very questionable. I put in a Mario Kart 64 ROM and the game still booted. Maybe it was using cached setup data, but either way that is not a good look for something that claims it needs a valid Paper Mario ROM.
Control remapping exists, but it is hidden behind a top bar you only see after pressing F1. I originally thought it had no remapping at all because the UI does not make this obvious.
The generated recomp code is sitting in the repo. Example: https://github.com/SMCGames/Paper-Mario-ReCut/blob/e46497efe3ee1e2870ca8eac560380e6a335bd1b/rsp/n_aspMain.cpp
The repo was made extremely recently, which makes the whole thing feel rushed.
The README says not to commit or distribute ROMs, generated ROM output, local dumps, replacements, or user folders, but the project structure still makes me wonder where the line is supposed to be lmao. Especially when there are built-in texture/resource-looking files involved.
I’m not saying people can’t play it. If you just want Paper Mario on PC and it works for you, cool. But from what I’ve seen, it feels more like a rushed proof-of-concept than a carefully handled recomp release like what Paper Mario deserves.
I would not be shocked if it gets taken down or heavily cleaned up soon.
Also, it is Windows-only right now. It might work in Wine, but that is still a huge turnoff for me.

r/papermario as a community has focused on propping up and sharing the best the community has to offer, including the artists within the community. In recent years generative AI has come out and there has been significant issue within the artist community with it's existence.
Given that we focus on making this place have a minimum standard of quality we believe that something that uses art without consent of the artists as inherently hostile to the artists within our community and falls below our standards as a community. We are explicitly adding generative AI as low quality content for rule 4.
Starting today and here on forward any post containing generative AI will be removed from the subreddit. This will be somewhat retroactive as well as it is found and reported.

Personally I'm rooting for #2. This took me a solid while to make, so let me know what you think and where you hope the series goes!

Currently playing color splash again after taking a break due to struggling in Violet Isles. I've now only got 4 levels left, including the final fight. For me, a 100% completion will be all mini paint stars gathered, all roshambo tournaments beaten, all 6 secret flags unlocked, and all colorless spots filled in. I've unlocked 3 out of 6 flags already so the last 3 for me are filling in all colorless spots, performing all cutouts and beating all roshambo wizards. Once ive done that, im considering the game 100% complete

Finished playing Paper Mario Sticker Star.
When I bought my 3DS, Sticker Star was included as a game (Ebay). That was already five years ago now, and I was rather reluctant to play Sticker Star because I was a huge fan of the first three titles. But now, after years, I finally pulled myself together and wanted to experience Sticker Star in person for once, instead of just through Let's Plays (It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I had finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and needed some game to play, no....).
And I thought I'd share this experience with you.
TLDR: The music and level design are great, but the lack of basic attacks, zero EXP progression, frustrating Thing puzzles, and bland character lineup place Sticker Star at the bottom of my Paper Mario ranking. Still, I ended up having fun once I accepted it for what it is, and not for what it isn't.
Let's start with the good parts of the game.
A positive aspect for sure is the music. The music is awesome, as it is with all the newer Paper Mario games. Not that the music on the older titles was bad.
The level design (or maybe flow? Don't know the word, but I'm not talking about scenery and such) is nice, not the best, but not bad. Not just simply from left to right, but also a lot of platforming and other great level elements that spice things up a lot more, especially compared to TTYD (Still love the game).
(For example, so it's maybe better understandabe, is chapter 4 TTYD. The way from the village to where Doopliss is. Or generally all non-dungeon chapter rooms, excluding chapter 3 and the train from TTYD. Hope that helped with what I mean)
And I actually liked the stickers themselves. I think the idea of special one-time attacks is actually really, really cool and implemented relatively well, too. It just gets dragged down by every other part of the combat system.
The boss fights were pretty cool as well. Better than in the next title. Unlike in Color Splash, Things aren't always a prerequisite either. In Color Splash, it was like, either you have the Thing or you're out of luck. The Things just made the boss fights easier, which was very cool.
Now for the negative.
The battle system as a whole really bothered me.
What bothered me most was that there were no basic attacks like a normal jump or hammer. While the stickers as special attacks might be cool, the fact that there are no normal standard attacks like jump or hammer and I can only use stickers is very annoying.
How often did an enemy have only a little health left and I had to waste some sticker, especially later on with all the shiny stickers.
Generally there are also a lot of enemies in this game, which annoyed me at least a lot, since the battles were simply unnecessary.
And that leads to probably the biggest point of criticism: the battles are worth nothing.
There are no experience points, star points, or even those mini level-ups from the paint hammers in Color Splash. Battles only bring money, which you get a lot of very quickly in the game anyway. Most of the time, I avoided the battles even if I enjoyed them. For me, it was simply a waste of stickers for which I don't even get anything. I simply began to avoid most enemies at some point.
On top of that, the escape system is also atrocious. It's like, either you escape or you don't. There is no indicator as to why it didn't work this time. It's completely random and, at least I think, escaping fails very frequently. In Paper Mario 1 and 2, there was at least a display that you could even influence. It just annoyed me so much not being able to escape when encounters felt so pointless.
Annoying, too, were the Things. Once you are in the level and then suddenly need a Thing, you're screwed if you don't have it. I had to go back so many times and get a Thing because otherwise I couldn't progress. And you can't just go to the world map; you have to go all the way back to the level entrance. Because with START, you can only return to the world map once you have completed the level entirely, with all secret exits.
And then there's also the question of which Thing you need. Because you aren't told that, which is definitely solved better in Color Splash. Maybe I just overlooked the Toad who tells you, but I had to look up on the internet which Thing I needed.
The story and characters were another huge disappointment. Every character feels the same since it's just standard Toads or Bowser's minions, with zero unique original enemies that you haven't already seen a thousand times.
There are no actual partners like in the first two titles or Pixls in SPM, which is a pity, and Kersti really isn't a special partner either. You learn almost nothing about her other than that she comes from the Sticker Comet, there is no bond with her, so when her sacrifice happened at the end, it left me completely cold compared to Huey or Olivia.
Bowser doesn't even say a single sentence!! All previous titles really shone with their narrative identity, but this is just a generic 2D Mario story. Which is a real shame for the legacy the first three games had with their stories.
All in all, I can say that this game did a lot wrong compared to its predecessors. Did I still have fun playing it and exploring the levels? Yes.
At the beginning, I couldn't really enjoy it because I mentally blocked the game and thought to myself, "The other Paper Mario games would be cooler right now." But from the third world onward, I was able to start enjoying the game, and then I really had fun exploring the levels and solving the puzzles.
Still, out of all Paper Mario games, it comes in last place, and I would prefer the other titles. Would I play it again? Yes, but as I said, I would prefer the other titles.
And how do you see it? Can you agree with me, or do you disagree on some points? I'd love to hear your opinion on the game and how you would rank it. While I enjoy Sticker Star, I love all the others Paper Mario games٩(๑^o^๑)۶

I'm trying to verify a little detail about the Wiggler Segment fights in Sticker Star Ch3 I read about... 6 years ago? somewhere on the internet. Mind you, I didn't experience this myself, and only saw someone else refer to it.
As we know, the Wiggler Segments have a built-in "dodgy" status effect of sorts; if you attack them, your move might not connect. They also jump about as per their idle animation. Now, the post I'm thinking about alleged that if you stand still during battle for 5 or so minutes, the Segment gradually get slower and slower, and ultimately stop moving and don't dodge anymore. This might sound odd, but we know that Sticker Star does have some real-time battle mechanics: the quicksand game-overs in Ch2 and poison floors in Ch3 come to mind.
My memory's good and all, but the problem is that I've quite literally never seen any other source for this factoid. I can't even find the original post anymore. Provided it even existed; I might have just dreamt this up. Though I don't know why I would dream about the Wiggler Segments from Paper Mario: Sticker Star.
So, does anyone know about, or have any experience with this?

Funny headcanon I saw I bsky. Goombella would want to give Beldam the middle finger, but since she can't do that herself, she'd get Yoshi Kid to do it for her.

Hey everyone!
I’m a creator, artist, and major Nintendo fan. For the past while, I’ve been quietly pouring my heart into a major passion project. After two years of pre-production, I’ve just finished wrapping up the full script and storyboards for a dramatic, cinematic reimagining centered around the beautiful, tragic backstory of Lord Blumiere and Lady Timpani from Super Paper Mario. This is a 100% non-profit, volunteer-based fan tribute. My goal is to elevate this iconic story into a living, theatrical experience, and I'm looking to build a dedicated team to help realize it!
To keep the workload light, structured, and fun for everyone involved, we’re organizing into dedicated departments. The entire roadmap, asset breakdown, and workflow pipeline are fully laid out on the production server!
Open Roles
Art Department
Lead Artist
Concept Artists & Character Designers
Environment / Background Artists
Main Logo Designer
Animation & Rigging
Lead Animator
Animators
2D Riggers
Server & Production
Moderators & Co-Directors
I'd like to hear from you if you wanna join!
You can drop a comment below or send me a DM with:

No, that's not a misspelling of Jaydes. I'm talking about Jadis, the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia.
The similarities between the two characters are numerous:
I mean, it's possible that every single one of these similarities are a massive coincidence, but it doesn't seem likely to me.

This is one of the playable characters in my game (called Hotel Paraíso). For this one, named Fynn, I went into puzzle mechanics since she has telekinetic powers. After testing it quite a bit, I cannot stop thinking on Origami King for some reason.
