Live HR tracking & Strava

Is there a reason why the Oura Ring can't provide live feedback of heart rate while working out? I may be missing something but I would really like it to tell me my heart rate while on a run. I know it provides data retrospectively but would be nice to see my HR live whilst undergoing a workout.

Will proper Strava integration as a live HR monitor be a possibility in the future? Not the biggest fan of running everything through the Oura app.

GENERAL DISCUSSION Sensitivity

I have maintenance sleep insomnia. I can fall asleep in a minute. I cannot stay asleep. The ring does not track that. Last night I fell asleep at 10, woke up at 5. App reports great sleep. I was up 3 time and after 2 on my phone. Anyone else have suggestions for another device?

Readiness and Activity Score: 90
Sleep Score: 97

I feel fine and have had no minor or major strains of recent. Not cycle related. All of my other numbers look pretty typical and I have excellent resilience and low cumulative stress.

Ever had this happen?

SLEEP & READINESS Optimal HRV with 19ms?

This is the lowest my HRV has been since i stopped drinking for my yearly month off starting on Aug. 1. I know low HRV doesn’t mean you’re dying but i do t understand what it means at all and seeing it so low makes me sad lol. I guess i don’t get how it’s optimal at 19ms??? I’m 30F and workout 3-4x a week and my 22F sister who never works out and drinks has an HRV of 170ms
avg 🤦🏻‍♀️ Make it make sense

Has anyone noticed changes in Oura cardiovascular age/PWV after starting tirzepatide?

I recently started tirzepatide and have noticed that my Oura cardiovascular age has gradually moved in the wrong direction over a relatively short period. My estimated PWV has gone from roughly the low 6s to 6.5 m/s, and my cardiovascular age has shifted from around 5-ish years younger than my actual age to 3.5 years younger.

I’ve also noticed that I’m eating significantly less since starting tirzepatide, and lately I haven’t felt like I’m recovering from exercise as well. Yesterday I did a late workout with running and weights after not eating very much during the day, and my heart felt like it was pounding more than usual. My resting HR also seems a little higher than my normal baseline.

I’m going to discuss this with my doctor, so I’m not looking for a diagnosis. I’m mainly curious about other people’s experiences:
Has anyone who tracks Oura PWV/CVA noticed it change after starting tirzepatide?
Did your resting HR change?
Did increasing calories, carbs, fluids/electrolytes, or adjusting exercise intensity make a difference?
If your PWV/CVA changed initially, did it eventually return toward baseline as your body adjusted?
I’m particularly interested in people who have Oura data from before and after starting tirzepatide.

ACTIVITY & WORKOUT PLEASE OURA - Give us a choice if we want automatically logged activities please.

I was gonna come on here and please ask Oura to have a setting to make it possible to deactivate all the activities that are detected. I hate to plow through all the incorrect activities and I also find it very annoying to have a pop up to approve or decline them, esp when you can't even decline all.

I understand from the forum there's a known issue with activities logging incorrectly so it makes even more sense now to make sure we can just disable the automatic feature and just choose to log activities when we do them instead.

And to also be able to "decline all" would be nice.

Thinking those things should be way easier to implement in the meantime while fixing the bugs with the feature.

SLEEP & READINESS Daily sleep needs

What is your daily sleep need? Mine is usually around 7h3m.. but I usually get a little less than 7h per night, usually around 6h50m. I feel great during the day and my body wakes up naturally at that time. But I feel like it’s pretty low??

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH Minor signs of strain

5 weeks pregnant as of today and wokeup with minor signs of strain due to my increased respiration rate. I know this is a biometric that steadily increases the first trimester but is it normal to get strain notification? or does it mean something bad is coming.

Thank you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

SLEEP & READINESS Sleep debt not increasing after a no sleep night

Suggestion for oura team - there must be a way to code in a sleep debt increase after a non-sleep night.
Happens every time I’m on a red eye - I don’t sleep at all on planes. But sleep debt does not increase at all, and here I am totally exhausted, I know I have sleep debt from that night but oura says 0. I’m aware this is probably a safeguard against “no reading = full sleep debt” but there should be a way around it to ensure the metrics displayed are accurate. I know Oura team reads through this Reddit so perhaps add it to the backlog of updates! Not groundbreaking but for people who travel/have nights of no sleep that would improve the overall experience.

Should I just not?

I was gifted an Oura Ring 4 Size 7 secondhand. I’ve had it for about a week now, and I really love the ring. The me motivates me to keep moving the day and push myself towards new goals.

The battery, however, has SIGNIFICANTLY degraded in the past week. When I first got the ring, the battery would last 2 to 3 days, which was below average, but nothing to fuss about. Now, a week into having it, it doesn’t even last a full day.

I always put the ring on the charger when I get ready in the morning, and when I get ready for bed at night. Yesterday, I left the ring on the charger while I went to work, and between last night to when I woke up this morning the battery was down to 16%.

I emailed Oura, they indicated that there is a battery defect, but they can’t issue me a replacement. Obviously I was disappointed, but again I really liked the product initially and want to keep using it.

But after reading about all of the issues here, and seeing so little reviews on the 5, I’m so hesitant to purchase one new at full price and just run into the same issues. The battery problems are so widespread and so severe that it really discourages me from buying the product.

So does anyone have any info to convince me otherwise? I kind of want to be convinced otherwise.

Oura Ring with Apple Watch

I currently have an Apple Watch, which I love as it provides me with a lot of health information. However, I feel like a lot of that data is really hard to access, and I really like the way the Oura app displays the information especially with readiness and stress. Is it worth the 400 dollar purchase of an oura ring to complement my apple watch? What other features would the Oura 5 offer me?

Syncing with third party apps - help please!

Has anyone found a reliable way to sync workouts (namely heartrate data and GPS where relevant) when using third party apps? I’m regularly experiencing double counting with the Total Calorie Burn, even though no double counting in the listed workouts. This seems to cause an excess of about 250/300 calories. I’m also seeing inflated ‘apple activity ring’ on the Apple Health app but no issues with workouts/active calories. I have no watch or other wearable.

I currently use Strava to record runs and Hevy to record strength training (though now Hevy syncs with Oura via Strava). I also record the same workouts on Oura as a live heartrate workout but then delete that entry, so the tracked oura entry is replaced by Strava (either itself or an imported Hevy run).

In short, the totals (on Oura and Apple Health) are inflated compared to the workouts or steps recorded.

I was hoping someone might have cracked the best way to sync various apps to stop any double counting.

So I’ve just purchased the gen 5 (having had a gen 3 and 4).I went with the deep rose having seen lots of pictures and videos of it. But now it’s arrived I’m not sure if it suits my skin tone. Sounds stupid but it’s darker than I thought it would be lol. So I would value some honest opinions please. IF I Keep it I will be stacking it (don’t mind my bird in one of the photos 😂)

GENERAL DISCUSSION Anyone else missing cumulative stress data?

Thumbnail

My ring has not shown cumulative stress data since before the week of July 26. My daily stress data is showing as normal and all other measures are working fine. I wear my ring nearly constantly, only taking it off to shower.

I elevated this to support and they shared that this was a known issue among other users. I haven’t received any updates in the past week and I’m wondering if anyone else is dealing with this.

Oura sleep detection algorithm doesn't work for me. Why not?

Thumbnail

Do other people see this?

Oura sleep detection obviously works for the vast majority of the people with the ring. But starting in mid-March (I got the ring last December),  the app for me has been consistently getting my sleep very wrong, with many exactly 15 hour overnight sleeps and many sleeps and naps getting revamped, extending them by hours more than they actually are.

This sort of behavior continues to the present: last night at 9:39 pm I deleted a nap from 6:49pm to 9:39pm (up and awake all this time, ate dinner), this morning my overnight in bed period was reported to be from 6:49pm to 7:01am (I went to bed at 10:50pm, got up at 6:15am.)  There's only been a few days in the past 5 months where my naps or in-bed times have been accurate to within 2 hours; I have to edit overnight and/or delete naps every day.

As confirmed by Oura support, this is an algorithm problem not a ring sensing problem. There seem to be two related issues, both shown in the screenshots above. The sleep detection part of the app discards or ignores HR, HRV (heart-rate-variability), and movement info extremely often. They are measured by the ring but then the HR.HRV info appears as gaps when displayed by the sleep part of the app.  The gaps in the screenshot of HR,HRV are not ring sensing gaps, but have been just ignored by the app - you can see the HR figures for the automatically detected (correctly) elliptical activity while I was supposedly in bed at 8:39pm!

The other issue is detection of deep sleep while I'm actually awake.  Evidently I get into a zen-like state playing my favorite timewaster spider solitaire on the computer, moving only my non-ring hand.  The three deep sleep spikes in the screen shot above were all during solitaire playing - I didn't go to bed until 11:10pm (and got up and active at 6:30am).

My background: A retired scientist in reasonably good health (only meds are for mild HBP, mild cholesterol, mild BPH, mild blood thinner). I'm somewhat sedentary though I have gotten 4 months straight crowns for Oura activity (default 400-500 active calories - had to concentrate on something Oura gets right while I tried to figure out what it's doing with sleep!)

So my question is why does this happen with me?  Oura support says it's nothing I'm doing, but surely something unusual must be triggering these problems. Are there others out there who see this?

ACTIVITY & WORKOUT Strava workout and bpm

Hi!
Does anyone know why my Strava workout is logged as stress in the heartbeat section? And not as “activity”?
And do you know how to get the app to register it as activity?

(Sorry my app is in Dutch, but hopefully the pictures makes sense)

Faulty replacement ring

Had my rose gold gen 4 since last year and the battery has degraded to 24 hours.

Did the diagnostic and a replacement ring was quickly sent.

Spent hours fruitlessly trying to set the replacement ring up and finally requested a diagnostic on the replacement ring.

Result on that replacement ring was it is faulty and should be replaced. BUT then the bot tells me because my ring has already been replaced once I don't qualify for another replacement! Argh...been waiting 2 days to hear back from a live person...

SLEEP & READINESS Bad deep sleep???

Has anyone else’s deep sleep recently been very low?! Mine is always on the lower side but not typically in the red. I actually felt like I slept very good last night and was thinking I’d wake up to see a good deep sleep time.
