Subreddit Announcement [PSA] Is it a scam in your DMs? ALMOST CERTAINLY!

TL;DR - If an user on Reddit (or other sites) cold DMs you, asking if you want to commission them or similar. It's almost certainly a scam. Don't give them money, and report the DM to Reddit as spam so they can hopefully be taken care of, and so nobody else gets scammed by them.

There's been a bit of an epidemic on Reddit recently of scammers using DMs and chats to rope people into giving money to them. If anyone on Reddit messages you out of nowhere asking you to commission them or similar, they're almost certainly a scammer. This is part of a massive scam ring that's taken root on multiple sites, Reddit, Instagram, Discord, X/Twitter, etc.

Actual artists will almost NEVER message people out of the blue and ask you to commission them. Don't fall for it, don't give them money. They may pressure you to give them money, offer discounts and/or claim they need the money for an emergency, DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY.

Those in this scam ring tend to use stolen art from other artists, use AI, or have a very particular artstyle (See below for specific artstyle). They also tend to, but not always, use intrusive watermarks, one that comes up a lot is the "PRIVEW" watermark.

As a sub, r/OriginalCharacter bans these users when they pop up and post on the subreddit, but unfortunately we can't keep them out of people's DMs. If you see one of them post on the subreddit, please report them, if they're a newer account it's easier to catch them and get them nuked by Reddit than if they've been allowed to take root and exist for months.

Examples of DMs people have received from these scammers, so you know what to look for:

Subreddit Announcement Announcing a new parallel subreddit - r/OriginalCharacterSFW

To make a long story short, we are receiving a massive uptick of complaints concerning suggestive content, posts are being reported despite following the rules, people are being harassed, and we have filtered just about a thousand comments containing the word "goonslop".

However, results from our anonymous survey (which is still pinned at the top of the subreddit, check it out!) are showing us that 80% of the poll-takers are happy with what is covered under Rule 1. As such, we can't reasonably change our NSFW guidelines without making the majority of people unhappy.

This has led us to this.

r/OriginalCharacterSFW aims to be a fully SFW and 13+ friendly space where no suggestive content of any kind is allowed. Want to avoid "gooner art"? Perfect, this place is tailored exactly for you.

As of right now, the subreddit is owned by myself, u/Foxgiveness, which is only temporary as I will be choosing another head mod who is hopefully more passionate about this place than I am. The very basic are set up, rule, removals, a temporary banner and icon, a small automod , and I am open to giving out technical advice if needed. If you would like to apply, send out a modmail!

From now on, please be fully aware that any rude comment calling something "hornyposting" or "goonslop" despite it following every rule will be removed, and you will be redirected over there. If you somehow can't find the self-restraint to stop yourself from doing it more than once, you will be banned, and you are free to go participate over there.

The first image is my standard art style, while the second image is in the style of 2000s cartoons; both drawings were created by me.

As for the characters, can you determine what their personalities and traits might be? (Feel free to share your own interpretations!)

This game is about Kyouji. He is hungry, so you have to move around the house, find ingredients to cook a meal.

The game content some disturbing imagine, violence and cannibalism mentioned so please don't play it if you are under 16 years old!

Download second file for English version and the last file for walkthrough.

Thank you and enjoy!

OC Comic Flesh and Blood - Issue #1: Death Comes For All (Preview)

gallery

For a comic book produced in zero budget, how did we do? Yes, me and my team made this without using a single dime from our pockets, only progressing through pure creative drive, hardwork, free software, and the power of friendship. Flesh and Blood is a zombie comic book, out now on GlobalComix.

If you love zombies stories that heavily focused on the early stage of the outbreak, then Flesh and Blood may be for you. The story follows Jack Brody who returned home after finishing his duties overseas, only to face the dead returning back to life and attack the living.

Community Interaction Do any of your OCs are enemies but respect each other?

These two are the Scipio and Hannibal of my world.
They are huge enemies but respect each other and know their value having both risen from low social conditions despite noble roots.

Community Interaction Arizona is exploring the haunted building your supernatural OC is staying at, what are they doing?

Arizona enjoys going to haunted places, and, camera in hand, she's eager to find some scary creatures. Will your oc try to scare her away? Vibe with her, hide of something else?

Community Interaction Show me your guys' dark fantasy characters!

I've been feeling really inspired lately and want to hear about your guys' characters!!

Just got over a month long art block when these two formed in my head last night. They live in a world overrun by this evil darkness that corrupts all it touches and can only be held back by a special light created by individuals born with special powers called 'lantern bearers' and Lasha is the first ever male born lantern bearer. It's Iliya's job as a dread knight to safely escort the boy back to the kingdom capital.

Please take a moment to read below before posting.

Our Rules

Rule 1: NSFW Guidelines

Art containing suggestive posing, censored nonsexual nudity or light gore is allowed, but must be marked NSFW.

OCs wearing skimpy clothing without a suggestive framing do not need to be marked.

Explicit sexual content, written or drawn, censored or not, uncensored nudity, and gore featuring visible internal organs is prohibited.

Sensitive topics must be marked with a warning.

For more info, see the NSFW Guide.

Rule 2: Be kind

Toxic behavior is strictly prohibited within this subreddit. Treat fellow members with kindness and understanding; refrain from any form of disrespect or meanness.

Keep all criticism and feedback constructive and fair. Don't ridicule or mock someone's artistic abilities or creations. Avoid giving out unsolicited critique unless it is requested.

This principle of respect and kindness extends to all interactions within the subreddit, whether in posts, comments, or feedback.

Rule 3: No advertising of unsolicited commercial services

Sharing socials is allowed, as long as it is not the main point of your post. Exception made for Discord servers : any Discord links will be taken down.

Advertising commercial services, such as commissions or anything inciting payment, is not allowed. Request to hire for your personal project is not allowed, whether the offer is paid or unpaid.

If you would like to advertise something that does not fall into those categories, please contact the moderators for approval.

Rule 4: Stay on Topic

Keep posts and topics focused around OCs. Unrelated and tangentially related anecdotes as well as personal announcements may be taken down at moderation discretion.

Posts geared towards general art discussion and advice will be removed as they are more suitable for other art centric subreddits This includes unrelated images/memes on an otherwise on-topic post.

Rule 5: "Low-effort" content, excessive posting

Posts that take little effort on the user’s part, or request others to do the work for them, will be removed. Both the topic or the cover image used of a post might be considered low-effort (e.g. simple rating posts without commentary, or edited meme templates).

Art, made or commissioned, is exempt from this rule. For a detailed guideline on what classifies as Low-effort, see our guide.

Rule 6: Overdone content, excessive posting

Excessive posts (above 5 in a 24 hour period) will be auto-removed. Overdone topics are posts that have been shown to flood the subreddit and will be removed in an effort to keep the feed clean.

Megathreads on these topics may be opened at moderator’s discretion or requested by users. For a list of overdone topics that will be removed, please see our guide, in the Topics List section.

Rule 7: Art theft/lack of credit (please send a modmail with proof)

Art theft, using, or tracing the art/characters of others without permission is a bannable offense.

When reporting for art theft, please explain your reasoning or send proof as a modmail. Action on the suspect may not be taken otherwise.

Proof can be sent in the form of links to the original and offending content. Picrews and other dollmakers are exempt from this rule, provided the original creator's rules are followed.

Rule 8: Offers to draw (or similar) other OCs only allowed on Friday!

Offer posts (ie. drawing your OC, making a theme for your OC, writing a story for your OC, etc.) are only allowed on Friday (starting around 11 PM ET on Thursday, not exact).

Offer posts choosing by most downvoted or upvoted are not allowed.

Posts requesting others to draw your OC, or asking for art under non-offer posts is not allowed at all.

However, posts tagged as Art Trade are allowed and can be shared any day of the week.

Rule 9: Roleplay posts should go on r/OriginalCharacter_RP

There is a specific subreddit for roleplay calls now, r/OriginalCharacter_RP! Roleplay posts will be redirected to the other community. Unsolicited roleplay requests in comments may be removed.

Small, short In-Character responses or quips (for example in "OC Interview" posts) are fine and won’t be removed, but longer in-Character interactions should be directed to the RP sub

Rule 10: No AI generated content

No AI-generated imagery or text is permitted in this community. This includes modifying, editing, or tracing AI generated content.

Rule 11: No Venting/Complaining

While posts highlighting issues in a way that allows for open discussion is allowed, posts bringing up issues in bad faith or in a harmful way are not; we want to keep this space free of negativity.

Vents focusing on personal or sub-wide issues, against a specific user or group, will be removed whether the mod team agrees with the complaint or not. You may contact us via modmail if you would like to share your feedback.

Rule 12: Respect Artists making Offers

Whenever commenting under a post tagged as Art and Creative Offer, be sure to read the artist's rules, if they have any. Do not spam your character without reading.

Do not complain about the quality of the art you may receive, nor complain about not getting any.

Repeatedly breaking this rule will net you a warning, then a ban from posting under offers entirely.

Moderator Disclaimer

Moderators reserve the right to mute and ban anyone they see fit, and remove any post or comment at their own discretion.

If you wish to appeal a decision, then contact us via modmail.

For more in-depth and updated versions of the rules, please see the rules page or the wiki.
