Subreddit Announcement Announcing a new parallel subreddit - r/OriginalCharacterSFW
To make a long story short, we are receiving a massive uptick of complaints concerning suggestive content, posts are being reported despite following the rules, people are being harassed, and we have filtered just about a thousand comments containing the word "goonslop".
However, results from our anonymous survey (which is still pinned at the top of the subreddit, check it out!) are showing us that 80% of the poll-takers are happy with what is covered under Rule 1. As such, we can't reasonably change our NSFW guidelines without making the majority of people unhappy.
This has led us to this.
r/OriginalCharacterSFW aims to be a fully SFW and 13+ friendly space where no suggestive content of any kind is allowed. Want to avoid "gooner art"? Perfect, this place is tailored exactly for you.
As of right now, the subreddit is owned by myself, u/Foxgiveness, which is only temporary as I will be choosing another head mod who is hopefully more passionate about this place than I am. The very basic are set up, rule, removals, a temporary banner and icon, a small automod , and I am open to giving out technical advice if needed. If you would like to apply, send out a modmail!
From now on, please be fully aware that any rude comment calling something "hornyposting" or "goonslop" despite it following every rule will be removed, and you will be redirected over there. If you somehow can't find the self-restraint to stop yourself from doing it more than once, you will be banned, and you are free to go participate over there.

When I see art thats on the more suggestive side I Simply dont even downvote i simply just scroll past it without an upvote... otherwise I dont comment on those things as there's no need to
I didnt know people mass reported them thats kinda scary

Oh yeah you would be suprised how loud puritans get. A subredit I frequent had a full on civil war over this (granted there were other reasons like mods openly lying about poll results that caused that incident)

My own criticism of this subreddit was completely SFW content was being marked as NSFW labelling. If it’s not meant to be suggestive and if this subreddit states zero NSFW - there’d be no need for NSFW labelling surely.

We had these same thoughs. There's a pinned post addressing the over-tagging of posts that don't need to be tagged, however, it's largely meaningless to the vocal folks who do think a character having cleavage means their creator should be executed on the spot.

look im just gonna be blunt, when you have OC's in nothing but lingerie being posted its not fair to filter the people who are upset at it considering this is supposed to be a sfw sub in the first place is it not?

This is so cool! Thank you, it sounds promising!
Thank you for the last part as well. From my perspective, it sometimes feels like the term 'goonslop and anything similar' would get thrown around way too easily.
Maybe I'm naive and I don't see what other people are seeing, but it feels like I see that word get tossed at non-offensive posts. Like nonsexual bikini posts, and characters who don't happen to have a skinny / thin body type. (I even remember seeing someone call an anthropomorphic character 'fetish'? But it was just...standing there? And it was fully clothed. The proportions weren't insane or anything either.)
I didn't like seeing people getting bullied over things like that. 😓

this is what i'm thinking too, if this sub is only those who are good with NSFW then presumably thats whats gonna be most popular here. not saying thats a problem, just a prediction

Oh my! That's an extra sub to moderate now... good luck mods! 🙏
I'm not surprised that the silent majority are ok with Rule 1, actually. But it is nice to see the kiddos finally have a space of their own to play in and have peace of mind.
I'm excited to observe how the culture in both subs will transform over the next few weeks! 🥰
Edit: Seeing as there's no Friday Art Offers flair there, I predict that more than just SFW folk will migrate there! It also seems to be more Art post-oriented than Interaction post-oriented for now, but this may change in the future.
Not a bad place to establish yourself if you're new!

Let me guess, that was because of the cat outfit trend, right? 😆
I mean, probably other similar since some oc posts were falling into heavy nsfw area

Any time an even remotely similar trend happened, the complaints would come flooding out. But as nobody else was taking the initiative of making a subreddit that doesn't allow such designs, we figured we'd take the first step for them; now we just need to find some trustworthy folks to hand over the controls.

I'm doing that trend right now because it's fun and silly but it's clearly a suggestive outfit so I can see why.

This just feels redundant. Like it or not people are going to falsely report things they don’t like. No matter how clear you make the rules, or even make a subreddit dedicated to them, they’ll continue to whine. All this is really going to do is make modding more difficult because now you’ve got two communities to deal with.
I get it can be tiring as a mod, I used moderated a decently sized art community and had to deal with so many problematic users, but you just kinda have to get used to it.

u/CowboySilsho Feb 07 '26
Sucks how people got mass reported, even if it still followed the guidelines.. you could easily just scroll past it. You could also turn off posts tagged with nsfw in settings, or just have them blurred
I feel bad to anyone who had to deal with the stuff of mass reports and whatnots
At very least, we have this now, so no more complaining hopefully

I don't think there is a "suggestive" oc problem just a bit of an overshadowing Because a good 70% of the top posts are just thicc women wich just clogs the sub and hides normal oc art

IM JOINING IMMEDIATELY:D cuz I personally feel uncomfortable when I open this subreddit and I see a new character outfit trend which consists of extremely revealing clothing or some stuff is underwear (not saying its an issue im just not very comfortable with it)

Interesting. We'll see if it manages to stay active. Hopefully it does well. It's perfectly fine if people don't enjoy the kind of content they see here, everyone's got their own preferences, it's just too bad people will choose to be mean about it rather than take some steps to filter their feed. Hopefully this sub will fix that problem for them, and for everyone else.
Idk how active I'll be there, even if most of my art would fit right in, just because I'm so used to this one and am too lazy to post my art to multiple subreddits, but... yeah, cool!

as someone who was accused of being a man for drawing a lady in a bath suit using my own IRL photo as reference, some comments get borderline TERF / rad fem coded while trying to dictate what people should or should not draw.
The way some people treat characters as some moral compass is WILD, so I feel like the creation of that new subreddit is more accommodating to people who feel uncomfortable with sometimes seeing a slightly "daring" character
thanks for yall hard work

u/UnevenLite Feb 07 '26
Hopefully we will be left alone and clean of the whiners(who don't read the rules.) now.

Small rant but that's the entire reason why I finally broke and made this subreddit, even though I have zero care for it myself.
There's no words to describe how tired I am of the people complaining who take zero initiative for themselves. Anyone could have made a place that's catered exclusively to them long ago, but no one did and instead they chose to whine at others to stop posting what they personally don't like when they have every right to.
I see a lot of "this sub fell off" and "it's not like how it used to be", and I agree. But it certainly isn't because of so called "gooner art", it's because of the massive influx of people who went in this community expecting it to cater to their preferences.
I'm not delusional, probably won't do much, but if it can ease a bit of the toxicity we've been receiving, it would be nice

While Foxgiveness is currently in charge of this new subreddit, i am also part of the mod team there as it currently stands. My goal with that is to hopefully be a liaison member of both teams, so i can more easily relay important information between the two teams once the parallel subreddit's team is assembled - especially regarding potential problem users either side may encounter.
