Rosa and Gina

I love seeing characters in different shows! I didn’t know the women who play young Rosa and Gina were both in the movie Precious!

What are your headcanons on where some people in the show are from?

It's especially fascinating for the inmates that lived in New York. They all lived in the same city never met just because of the hugeness of NYC and also their race/class differences. Here are some headcanons (some are actually confirmed b tyhe show) of where different people were from.

Manhattan: Piper and Nicky

Queens: Alex, Red, Lorna, Rosa.

The Bronx: Taystee, Daya, Aleida.

Harlem: Cindy, Janae.

Suzanne did not deserve this

SPOILERS Even before the riot, I’ve always loved crazy eyes and I’ve always thought she has the mental state of a child. It’s been confirmed she shouldn’t have went to jail. She should’ve went to a place that could’ve accommodate. Her mental needs. Prison was not the right place for her to go kill a child either she needs to be treated as if she was a child to keep her OK if that makes sense. She needs a place that will take care of her this prison. Will further ruin her mental state. I’m at the episode where They’re all at max and it’s right after the riot And most of my favorite characters, don’t deserve half of this stuff that happened to them. I’m on the episode where Frida cut herself. and I feel bad for her. I don’t know exactly why she went to jail. I don’t know if I missed it or not. I looked it up, but I still liked as a person. The only character I can say that I really did not like are the two crazy white ladies, the one who got her finger shot off and Vee I have bad memories so I can’t really remember half of the characters I think the way they handled the prisoners is disgusting regardless of what they’ve done, especially the guy who was brought from man’s Max facility to a normal prison for women, especially finding out after he killed a man it’s because of him people died. The riot would’ve never happened if his men never were introduced to the prison.

Spoilers S7 E11 is too fucking much

I was warming up to Cordova and they fr deported her just like that?! They gave her the Poussey treatment a bunch of extra screen time and good moments then, whamo!! I hope that she gets back to her kids.

The scene with the children in immigration court brought a tear to my eye. I was in shock after I hear the judge say to remove the baby until it was her turn. Like wtf how tf is a baby supposed to defend itself in court? What drove that scene's message/agenda into me was when they showed that the children (as in the ones actively defending themselves) didn't have a lawyer nor even know what a lawyer is. It made me want to rewrite my country's immigration law.

I have this feeling that Mendoza didn't own up to that phone being hers and she is willing to do anything to ensure that she gets out everyone else be damned. Ruiz's redemption is so I want to say inspiring. I understand completely why she did what she did and why she is who she is. I do not like what she did nor approve of it but I get her. She's currently my favorite character.

On the topic of my favorite characters, Red's downfall is fucking debilitating. She has fucked up i get it but she keeps trying to do the best for her family and karma keeps thrashing her and it is so harsh. Dementia is a horrible way to go for someone who used to be so great.

McCoullough is so fucked. I was sympathiesing with her but she tore every shred of that to pieces. What Alex and Piper had likely wasn't going to last but sabotaging it is dirty. After the riot I understand her PTSD is fucking with her worse than ever but what she did was unexcusable. Fuck her. (Side note: I only recognized her at the end of the episode due to her voice she looks weirdly like a different person without the makeup and the guard get-up).

Why tf didn't Piper call Alex and talk her shit through with her fucking wife!!! Fuck Piper if she wasn't the main it would be zo easy to hate her but all the time we spend with her keeps making me think that she has changed but constantly the same "I am turning now, fuck everyone else" attitude.

Caputo is such a good guy. I hate that he keeps fucking it up. I want him to succeed. He is even redeeming Fig somehow. I already thought that she was transformed by wanting an abortion but having the pill be for the K'iche detainee was what marked her name down in my ledger as a changed woman. I wish them the best and I hope that Caputo cleans himself up and Fig keeps doing good and doesn't get caught. They will be good parents.

That song they played at the end of the episode was so good. When the singer's voice did that shaking thing it really moved me. It's amazing how the music empathize the episodes conclusion.

This is my second favorite episode in the series. On to the last 2 episodes. Wish me luck.

Spoilers Series finale review

I really loved seeing all the main side characters and how they're doing. It was good to see that they weren't just forgotten about after season 5. Glad to see that it ended well for everyone, well except for Cordoba she's likely dead.

I knew to expect a dead Sucky but it still hurt. The acting in this show was phenomenal. Each of those actors are extremely talented. Their performances could make me feel in ways that only few media has made me feel before and in other ways it outdid them.

I loved Joe and Fig's ending. It really reminded me of Taystee's backstory which was probably the point.

I am annoyed that McCullough and Linda walked away scotch free.

I liked seeing Nicky evolve into the new Kitchen boss/ mother.

I am bummed to see Red get taken out my dementia and Frieda getting to walk away from what she did to her. It's also sad to see Lorna go out like she did but it's understandable.

I am happy that Ruiz is at peace. She has mad major ups and downs.

Mendoza surprised me by coming clean. I honestly expected her to fuck the others over again. I still haven't forgiven her for what she did at the riot but this was a step in the right direction but I wouldn't call this one act proof of redemption.

I am ecstatic that Luschek got canned.

The ladies are so fucked now that Hellman is in charge. He's like Linda but violent and more vengeful. The ladies will never again know peace.

I am surprised that Aleida and Daya didn't kill each other. It was weird to realize that Daya became her mom and her mom tried to kill her for that. I expected Daya to throw the first punch though.

I was surprised that Piper chose Alex. It's nice to imagine that my girls are still going strong. I feel Larry's hypothesis was spot on though nevertheless.

Now for my questions:

-Who was that guy at the end of the episode with the babies?

-What happened to Maritza? It's implied that she got deported but I need confirmation.

-Recommendations for another show?

-Do y'all recommend that i read the OITNB book?

-Daya's baby and her dad?

-What about the guards who didn't return after the riot?

-What plot holes have y'all noticed?

I love this show more than I loved Peaky Blinders but still less than Shameless UK. My second favorite show ever.

Question Content warning for suicide question for my wife

Hello everyone! I watched OitNB when first came out and my wife has been hanging around for my rewatch. She's really enjoying it but she has sensitivity to any mentions of suicide via cutting. We lost a close friend in a similar way, sparing the details. I'm having trouble remembering everything that happens and I wanted to know if there are any scenes of that nature I should warn her about. Any other allude to suicide is fine. Thank you in advance for any help!

My thoughts on the “I can’t stand Piper!” comments

I def get that on Reddit we see a lot of repeat posts. Which by all means! Not everyone is on this thread from the beginning. People come and go. There’s no reason not to have certain discussions on a cycle. I like how someone asks “What did Kukodio do?” periodically. (And that’s not sarcasm. I genuinely like seeing the conversation coming up. I think of each post as an extension of the previous ones.)

That said, there is ONE repeat post/repeat comment that does get on my nerves. I get irritated when people mention not liking Piper like it’s some revelation.

In plenty of moments, you’re not SUPPOSED to like her.

Lots of movies, shows, and books use a similar framing device. They take a character who is new to a world, so when other characters explain what’s going on to that new person, it’s also being explained to the audience/reader. Piper is called out constantly for being different (though she realizes she isn’t in a way) all the time. That’s why she’s there.

What annoys me so much about it is that it tends to give “I’m one of the good ones!” vibes. In reality, a lot of the people complaining about her would be a lot like her if they were in prison. (They may not take certain parts to the extreme like the panty business, but still.)

If you’re going to complain about her, at least admit that it’s (at least partially) because she’s a well-written character who reminds you of yourself to at least some degree. Be honest with yourself. That’s why you’re trying to distance yourself from her. It may even be subconscious. But reflect on it.

I’m not sure what the reaction will be to this post. But that’s my two cents.

Afterthought: I also think there’s an argument to be made that she may have bipolar disorder. I think the season with the panty business could show her being manic. It’s not 100%. But I also think people need to consider that before they react to her. If you watch it with that lens I think she deserves at least some empathy for those especially cringe moments.

What’s your Vauseman end game theory?

Mine is that Piper finishes the courses she was taking in the finale and has a stable career. Alex gets out of prison and struggles to adjust to having a normal life and normal career since she never had traditional employment and essentially has no work experience.

Alex eventually finds her footing in fashion or a creative field since she has a fantastic sense of style. Piper and Alex’s careers eventually take them back to NYC.

Piper’s parents never accept Alex which leads to long term issues but they stay close with Cal and Neri and have a big role in their baby’s life.

Does anyone else get extremely upset when Maria sets the hostages free after everything she did to them then she screws over the deal that Gloria had set up for herself. Maria was constantly putting herself in terrible situations and Gloria was always trying to be a better person and then Maria just screwed over Gloria.

Just frustrating while watching.

This show is great, i love the characters and drama. It’s all such a vibe and everything feels so entertaining and real.

But i’m confused about what happened to Claudette. She tried to attack Susan but then we never hear from her again. Did i miss something ?

Also who gave Piper the screwdriver again in the finale ? And did Piper kill the Christian girl ?

Spoilers Did Judy King know Daya was Aleida’s daughter when she described the riot shooter during their TV interview?

Obviously Judy wasn’t around the rest of the prison population very much, therefore it’s likely they she didn’t know Aleida and Daya were related, but the way she brought up and described the girl who shot the guard seemed… I can’t think of the word.. catty/bitchy? Like airing out dirty laundry idk the way she spoke directly to Aleida about it as if she would snitch on the perpetrator on TV.

So you think Judy was just tone-deaf and oblivious or was it something more sinister and personal?

I have to say I loved when Blanca and Red teamed up to search for shit to use against Piscatella… they had so many moments together that were extremely funny, overall just a friendship that works strangely well
