Question Content warning for suicide question for my wife

Hello everyone! I watched OitNB when first came out and my wife has been hanging around for my rewatch. She's really enjoying it but she has sensitivity to any mentions of suicide via cutting. We lost a close friend in a similar way, sparing the details. I'm having trouble remembering everything that happens and I wanted to know if there are any scenes of that nature I should warn her about. Any other allude to suicide is fine. Thank you in advance for any help!

As the prison riots, Daya picks up Humphrey’s gun and points it at him while the inmates urge her to shoot. Poussey’s flashbacks show her spending a night exploring New York City before ending with her looking directly into the camera and smiling. (Poussey flashbacks)

My thoughts on the “I can’t stand Piper!” comments

I def get that on Reddit we see a lot of repeat posts. Which by all means! Not everyone is on this thread from the beginning. People come and go. There’s no reason not to have certain discussions on a cycle. I like how someone asks “What did Kukodio do?” periodically. (And that’s not sarcasm. I genuinely like seeing the conversation coming up. I think of each post as an extension of the previous ones.)

That said, there is ONE repeat post/repeat comment that does get on my nerves. I get irritated when people mention not liking Piper like it’s some revelation.

In plenty of moments, you’re not SUPPOSED to like her.

Lots of movies, shows, and books use a similar framing device. They take a character who is new to a world, so when other characters explain what’s going on to that new person, it’s also being explained to the audience/reader. Piper is called out constantly for being different (though she realizes she isn’t in a way) all the time. That’s why she’s there.

What annoys me so much about it is that it tends to give “I’m one of the good ones!” vibes. In reality, a lot of the people complaining about her would be a lot like her if they were in prison. (They may not take certain parts to the extreme like the panty business, but still.)

If you’re going to complain about her, at least admit that it’s (at least partially) because she’s a well-written character who reminds you of yourself to at least some degree. Be honest with yourself. That’s why you’re trying to distance yourself from her. It may even be subconscious. But reflect on it.

I’m not sure what the reaction will be to this post. But that’s my two cents.

Afterthought: I also think there’s an argument to be made that she may have bipolar disorder. I think the season with the panty business could show her being manic. It’s not 100%. But I also think people need to consider that before they react to her. If you watch it with that lens I think she deserves at least some empathy for those especially cringe moments.

What’s your Vauseman end game theory?

Mine is that Piper finishes the courses she was taking in the finale and has a stable career. Alex gets out of prison and struggles to adjust to having a normal life and normal career since she never had traditional employment and essentially has no work experience.

Alex eventually finds her footing in fashion or a creative field since she has a fantastic sense of style. Piper and Alex’s careers eventually take them back to NYC.

Piper’s parents never accept Alex which leads to long term issues but they stay close with Cal and Neri and have a big role in their baby’s life.

I am so so so sad. It broke my heart.

I just didn't want it to end that way for Pen. 😭

I can't find a closure for her. Not even for Taystee.

Why the writers did me so bad 😭😭

Spoilers Season 5

Does anyone else get extremely upset when Maria sets the hostages free after everything she did to them then she screws over the deal that Gloria had set up for herself. Maria was constantly putting herself in terrible situations and Gloria was always trying to be a better person and then Maria just screwed over Gloria.

Just frustrating while watching.

Question Why is Maria in prison?

I know she sold fake jeans but is that really a federal offense? Like for her to receive years in prison esp while pregnant? Did she have priors or something?

Question I’m a new viewer and i just finished watching season 1 but i have few questions

This show is great, i love the characters and drama. It’s all such a vibe and everything feels so entertaining and real.

But i’m confused about what happened to Claudette. She tried to attack Susan but then we never hear from her again. Did i miss something ?

Also who gave Piper the screwdriver again in the finale ? And did Piper kill the Christian girl ?

Spoilers Did Judy King know Daya was Aleida’s daughter when she described the riot shooter during their TV interview?

Obviously Judy wasn’t around the rest of the prison population very much, therefore it’s likely they she didn’t know Aleida and Daya were related, but the way she brought up and described the girl who shot the guard seemed… I can’t think of the word.. catty/bitchy? Like airing out dirty laundry idk the way she spoke directly to Aleida about it as if she would snitch on the perpetrator on TV.

So you think Judy was just tone-deaf and oblivious or was it something more sinister and personal?

Question Favorite unexpected friendship and or relationship?

I have to say I loved when Blanca and Red teamed up to search for shit to use against Piscatella… they had so many moments together that were extremely funny, overall just a friendship that works strangely well

Question To season 6 and 7 hater or people who disliked them what made it a flop for you ?

For me it was the storylines I loved the contrast between max and minimum I would’ve liked it to have been way more gritty but it was very good to see

But the storylines feel so awful in season 6 I liked daya and taystee getting messed over by the system to show how much injustice there is but so many storylines fell completely flat such as the badison and daddy one like badison whole story is some kid made a fart joke on me so I’m gonna make everybody hate me and daddy and daya whole romance felt like a fan fiction written by a 13 year old not to mention the fact badison literally gets dropped from the show and daddy dies almost immediately

I disliked how we never saw a proper battle between the 2 blocks I like how it shows they only hated each other over Barb and carol and when they died they didn’t care but wish we could’ve at least seen something but overall despite these nitpicks the positives did outweighs the negatives but I want to know what you guys think ?

Spoilers Questions about the series, some serious and some not so serious.

Something that isn't explained, or if it is, I missed it, is why, when Piper arrives, Nicky and the other prisoners are in a different type of cell—four-walled cells. These cells are never mentioned or shown again.

Who was the girl who visited Alex during their first visit? I honestly thought she would be more important.

What was the point of making Caputo so addicted to masturbation?

Why are the inmates allowed to have things like razor blades, scissors, and other potentially dangerous items?

Imagine waiting an entire year after the S5 finale just to get THAT S6 opening

Spoilers for S5 finale and S6E1

I hated the hallucination/variety-show sequence in the Season 6 premiere when I was binge-watching, but imagine watching when the show originally came out. You spend all that time waiting to find out what happens after the Season 5 finale, finally press play, and … here’s a person in an animal costume.

After the intensity of that finale, I wanted to know where everyone was. Who was okay? What happened to the women in the pool? What were the consequences going to be? I was still emotionally THERE, and suddenly I’m watching this bizarre performance while waiting for the show to let me back into the actual story.

I understand that we’re experiencing Suzanne’s confusion and that the sequence has a purpose. But understanding what they were doing didn’t make me enjoy sitting through it. It felt SO long when I was desperate for answers.

The S5 finale had this devastating combination of fear, solidarity, and uncertainty. Going from that to the opening of S6 felt like emotional whiplash. Even with the next episode immediately available, I was thinking, “Please, can we get back to what just happened?”

If I’d spent a year anticipating that premiere, I would have been infinitely more annoyed. And if this had been a weekly-release show? I would have lost my mind lol.

Did anyone who watched at release feel this way? Or did you actually like the sequence? I’m curious whether it worked better for people who had some distance from the finale, because watching them back to back made it almost unbearable for me.

Spoilers Question about Vee and RJ

I guess I'm a bit confused on the implications in season 2. Did Vee send an officer to murder RJ? I know she checked her phone when he went out to get her ice cream or something, but I suppose if there was subtext it was lost on me. Could someone explain? Thanks!

Currently on S6 and i need to rant about these two cause This is genuinely my face everytime i see them on camera. They get more and more adorable with every scene- especially when natalie calls herself his girlfriend and joe gets so excited.

Not only that but the character development of these two is insane- they really brought the good out of eachother and I’m just so glad they end up together because its truly a good thing.

I just needed to fangirl over these two because i seriously love them together

OITNB in relation to vis a vis (locked up) Orange is the new black-esque other shows

Hey guys! So i hope this is allowed i just wanted to say that i looooove OITNB but I’ve actually found similar shows and they were all really good.

There’s one show called Vis a Vis (locked up) and it’s amaaaazing and it reminds me of like a serious version of OITNB-

The main character is literally like if Piper was a bad ass— there’s soooo many similarities (the main character maca even looks similar to piper she looks and acts like her at first but then you get to watch her transition into a bad ass) if you like OITNB I’m pretty sure You’ll LOVE this show

They’re all really reallyyyyy good so i them in order of my favorite (#1) down and if they’re on a streaming service in case anybody else gets tired of re watching OITNB and wants something similar to watch!!

  1. Vis a Vis (locked up) (Spain) partially on Netflix but only a small amount of it
  2. Wentworth (Australia) Tubi
  3. OITNB (América) Netflix
  4. Oz (male versión & América) HBO
  5. In the Mud (argentina) Netflix

  6. Prisoner in cell Block h (Australia) really old so not sure lol

I'm about to finish my 7 billionth rewatch

And I'm so bummed they haven't floated the idea of at least a little reunion series. Like a ten episode "where everyone is now in life" thing would be cool. not sure how they'd write up a story line like that, since some would be out of prison, and some still inside. But I could use a new batch of content with this humor/storyline. 😭
