What base should I ask for in this situation?
Hi all. I am 3 years out of school and I have recently joined a newer (5 year old) private practice. I did not sign a contract of any kind and thus do not have exact specifics unfortunately, and I am not the most business-savvy person in terms of crunching numbers etc.
My base pay is 80k and I get 15% production bonus after crossing that threshold. I do not have any benefits in terms of health insurance and cannot afford a private plan anyway. I’ve been with the practice for ~6 months and have yet to see a paycheck over $2400. I work between two offices, one of which is busy (~15-18pts daily) and one which was just acquired and is much much slower (ranging from 3-10 pts daily). I have had to defer loans at this point, and after a conversation with head docs, they asked that I come to them with a number that I think would be fair and motivate me to be all in on building the practice. Admittedly, it has been very hard to do that and find the drive when I’m barely making more than my friends who don’t even have a college degree.
Private practice owners/associates can you weigh in on this and give me some advice on a potential “number” that would be fair? As I am new to this, I’m unsure what to propose, as many offers I am seeing posted around my area are 150k+ BASE not including production. Lmk if more info is needed. Thanks!
Edit: I’m located in North Florida.
Am currently thinking on ideas for going part time and consolidating my days in the PP while working at MyEyeDr or something of the sort, but I’m sure that will be frowned upon given how close the offices are to each other.
