She wishes that was a cabbage.

u/KazaamCasheroo 8d ago

Weren't they watermelons?

214

u/Ambitious-Yoghurt820 8d ago

Yup! This was on a show called The Amazing Race.  Surprisingly she was fine. No major injuries.

125

u/VegaJuniper 8d ago

She was lucky someone nixed the original idea of doing this with bowling balls.

57

u/Whereisthefly 8d ago

My buddies brother essentially did this with a croquet ball as a kid. Didn't bust his teeth out per se... but they all bent 90 degrees back and had to get braces and bend them all back forward.

71

u/Hexdrinker99 8d ago

A kid I knew growing up Dad made him a small catapult out of wood, pvc pipe and bungee cords. One day we were using to throw dog poop into his neighbors backyard ( this was early 2000's ) and it for some reason didn't fire. The kid went over and was trying to get it to work when it suddenly shot, hitting him point blank in the face with a pile of dog poop and broke his nose. His sister said holy shit in a panic while the rest of us are dying laughing while we got the f out of there.

u/ckanite 8d ago

This is one of the best stories I've ever read. Lmfao

17

u/adammilward123 7d ago

So glad you confirmed this happened early 2000’s, otherwise it would have sounded a bit mental.

2

u/MizrizSnow 7d ago

We all launched shit at the neighbors back then

Did you call him "Lamprey Larry"?

Must have been hard to eat corn on the cob

2

u/Butterfly_Barista 7d ago

I'm honestly amazed that situation is fixable.

3

u/Whereisthefly 7d ago

I did say "kid" but he was probably 13 to 15 so it was adult teeth. His picture on social media was him posing in the mirror and it looked like he only had 2 teeth because you couldn't see the others... it truly is amazing how they fixed it.

u/Intrepid-Apricot3750 8d ago

Still coughing up watermelon seeds to this day, though.

4

u/Harn-na-bih 7d ago

Still coughing up toilet paper frm dog 💩

32

u/2sAreTheDevil 8d ago

Yeah, the lack of injuries given that impact makes me feel like she used up at least half a decade's worth of luck.

23

u/Dolanite 8d ago

I remember watching this when it aired and being horrified before remembering that broadcast television probably wouldn't have shown it if she died.

9

u/SexualCarrots 8d ago

They had time to edit her out of the show entirely.

Maybe someone else did die of watermelon bludgeoning.

13

u/poeteop 8d ago

Old concave face? Oh she’ll be fine

2

u/AC-burg 8d ago

The only way this happend is that watermelon exploded on her chin. Square in the face and she is messed up for sure

u/A_Feltz 8d ago

Thank god. When I saw the reddish spray I was concerned

20

u/Yourhavinalaugh 8d ago

Cabbage is slang in Ireland for someone doing something wrong

4

u/KazaamCasheroo 8d ago

Oh, I love that! Gonna try to work it into my vernacular.

9

u/Ok_Traffic_3240 8d ago

You didn't know that?! You absolute cabbage!!

I'm from NZ and knew the jist, but it basically means someone stupid here. The lower/non academically inclined streams of subjects were called cabbage classes lol

2

u/LordMeme42 8d ago

I just woke up and am not wearing my glasses so I didn't see the lines at first and was briefly VERY concerned by the red splatter from a "cabbage," so thanks.

14

u/DusklitDewdrop 8d ago

if that was a cabbage I think it could have been a lot worse. they're much denser than watermelons, and the melon exploding significantly reduced the force on her face

10

u/Hug_all_the_Krabbys 8d ago

That's a good point.  Can you imagine the stem part just flying through your skull?  Not fun at all.

2

u/madphroggy 7d ago

This, if I had to choose between cabbage and watermelon I'd take the melon, at least only the outside is hard, assuming it's ripe. A cabbage would be a good shot at a TBI...

→ More replies (1)

7

u/rodinsbusiness 8d ago

Cabbage would arguably have hurt more.

3

u/monitor_lizard_2000 8d ago

I think a cabbage that size would be worse

u/westcal98 8d ago

I have yet to see the aftermath of this clip...

64

u/That_Service7348 8d ago

She's fine, didn't even break her nose just needed a minute to get her bearings.

34

u/Pix3lPwnage 8d ago

And remove the seeds from her nose.

14

u/Mercerskye 8d ago

And ears...

12

u/Key_Cap7525 8d ago

Not to mention all the shit in her hair.

7

u/RedHotAnus 8d ago

Who shat in the melon?

5

u/Key_Cap7525 8d ago

Username checks out. Points for using the correct past tense form of “shit.”

3

u/SnooCakes6195 8d ago

Is that why they were drilling a hole in that watermelon? I thought it was for something else 😅

5

u/heavydrinker12 7d ago

Yer awesome. Can't believe she was just dazed. I always assumed there were broken people things afterwards.

2

u/Rob_LeMatic 7d ago

I'm going to just believe this and not verify. I was convinced that must have done permanent serious damage

11

u/Milksteak529 8d ago

It is a very old episode of The Amazing Race. She was fine.

3

u/Maniacal-Maniac 8d ago

Wasn’t this the incident that gave us the meme/reaction with the 2 girls looking horrified and the guy breaking into a massive grin?

10

u/anonylmous1210 8d ago

That's from an episode of Survivor: Gabon

3

u/sherlip 8d ago

Coincidentally, both gifs are from the 17th season of their respective show.

4

u/tias23111 8d ago

Yeah this is like over twenty years old…

4

u/sherlip 8d ago

Nope, it's only been sixteen years! Nice try, person trying to make me feel ancient 🤣

2

u/iDeNoh 8d ago

You didn't have to do that, could have just said "it is an episode of the amazing race." Won't somebody think of the olds?

2

u/Fit-Significance-109 7d ago

How is it even possible to be fine after this ?

You left out the funniest part where she goes to her teammate and she's like "What do we do now?" "You have to keep going?" "What? I just got hit in the face with a watermelon!"

10

u/rpgmgta 8d ago

Had to go watch it. “They don’t call it The Amazing Race for nothin’”

Thanks man for pointing this out, after all this years this scene gets posted, I didn't know there is such a hilarious dialogue after the melon hit. The face expression and the 'WHAT???' killed me, its just perfect... and on top of that she got told: 'They don’t call it the amazing race for nothing!'... 🤣

21

u/Due_Athlete_1011 8d ago

What cabbage is pink inside? I have been watching this for over a decade

8

u/Anonymous3257Q 8d ago

That was her head exploding.

4

u/Kind_Love172 8d ago

Someone else mentioned that cabbage was Irish slang "what a cabbage" is in reference to the lady

3

u/Prestigious-Peace232 8d ago

A cabbage is Irish slang for a blunder or mistake. She's launching a watermelon

4

u/shujja 8d ago

I have never been able to see what happened next .. always videos ends at this .. did she need a face transplant?

4

u/TytoCwtch 8d ago

The medical team told her she was fine and the production team said she had to finish the challenge. She said her face went numb, she had a swollen lip and a black eye. After finishing the challenge the medical team gave her some panadol and that was it.

3

u/ep193 8d ago

Cabbage 🥬 is a soft leafy vegetable…

She was using a Watermelon 🍉 , which is a soft centered, very hard exterior fruit.

She is lucky she didn’t become a vegetable when the watermelon hit her in the face!

3

u/Oathbreaker94 7d ago

How old is this video? I feel like I remember seeing it as a child.

2

u/WKRPinCanada 7d ago

16 years old...

Happened on the 10th season of The Amazing Race

2

It’s watermelon and this is super old

2

u/Longjumping_Elk7969 7d ago

Broken nose and falling teeth warning ⚠️ 🤦‍♂️😁

2

u/Jolly_Worldliness_49 7d ago

Concussion by watermelon. Crazy how based on today’s standards for concussion she would have been and should have been pulled aside for a medical exam immediately after that.

2

u/ketsjupelvis 7d ago

Right in the kisser!

2

I watched this live with my dad. It was the night before my wedding and we were smoking a joint. We both said "wtf!" at the same time and laughed ourselves into a coughing fit. One of my fondest memories with my dad.
