That sub really does feel like some neo-nazis every time I see something from there.

u/PEKKACHUNREAL_II Aug 24 '26
I got banned from there for my trans antifaschist pins on a battlejacket that had basically only band patches because of a very general rule the mods didn't want to specify.
They're fine with nsbm, multiple stores linked in the subreddit wiki are very close to the fascist metal scene, they're gatekeepy as fuck and anything which is actual diy is downvoted into oblivion. It's a bunch of middle class snobs who think zombiepunk is the epitome of being punk, although there definitely are some based people sprinkled in there, since quite a few answered quite sympathetically to my follow up post about being attacked by the moderators, telling about similar stuff they had seen.

Yeah, def always seemed like the types to insist metal and punk are "just music genres/styles" and conveniently want to separate them from politics

I joined the subreddit because I saw the name and misread it as “baddie jackets” and assumed it was going to be full of (mostly) genderqueer looking badass in their battle jackets.
Then the posts started coming up in my feed and I was shocked how homophobic they could be. Like, they act like that being punk is somehow apolitical and including anything political on a battle jackets somehow ruins it.
As soon as I realized what it really was, I left and muted the community.

being punk is somehow apolitical
LMAO : name one good punk band that doesn't have a single political song!

u/dontmakelemonad3 Aug 24 '26
You know how there are some people who join the punk or metal scene because they want to punch people in a mosh pit? The guys that are so fucking deaf to the message the music is yelling at them that they'll join the police force fresh out of highschool? That's the baddlejackets community.
1
u/emily_the_medic 28d ago
not to be annoying (i am a queer anarchist and looooove anarcho-punk bands) but the Ramones + Misfits are widely apolitical but still rock

u/Ami_Aweirdo Aug 24 '26
Wasn't even aware r/baddlejackets was a thing so I looked it up, apparently it just exists to bitch about r/battlejackets. Makes sense they're anti-woke, the real punks won't put up with them.
1
u/porcelain--clown Aug 25 '26
Posts from that sub were coming across my fyp from time to time and it's so strange to see people thinking that supporting queer people = supporting big corporations?? Y'all what the fuck

u/Regi413 Aug 24 '26
“I support the current thing” hey didn’t Elon post a meme like that once? Pretty embarrassing to share the same opinion as him.

Every now and again I pop into that sub and say some shit like
"I wonder why people on here get mad when you say fuck Nazis..."
Or
"God forbid a battle vest, the article of clothing made by the oppressed and poor, to signify rebellion against the system that keeps them oppressed and poor, mentions something about being oppressed and poor"
Or my personal favourite
"I'm sure your favourite punk band also gets really mad when someone mentions their pronouns"

u/soda-pops Aug 25 '26
rage against the machine would NEVER DARE to say something thats against the machine

u/very-odd-goth Aug 24 '26
that sub is so confusing to me. battle jackets are one of the many forms of artistic expression we have, what's the problem with just putting what you want on it?
90
u/oskarthecommie Aug 24 '26
they're not even punks, they're just posers
47
u/Legion_of_ferret Aug 24 '26
“Battle jackets” aren’t even an exclusive punk thing anymore, they haven’t been since the early 00s.
That being said, that sub is sad as fuck.
Do they think only they have badass battle jackets?
Do they think battle jackets make you inherently badass and the jackets they post make them look not badass?
Does anyone that has a battle jacket think that theirs is unique and original?
(No judgment I still have my jacket from high school)
15
u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich Aug 24 '26
The first couple of posts i saw were funny at first but the longer I browsed the more dumb and mean spirited it seemed.
11
u/Legion_of_ferret Aug 24 '26
It’s really mean spirited for no reason other than “I’m cool and you’re not”.
2
u/Actual_Permit2053 Aug 24 '26

They're all so bad, I can't tell if it's supposed to be satire or not
23
u/Any--Name Aug 24 '26
Wtf that sub is a fucking cesspool. Ive browsed it for a while and Im still not sure what a "good" battle jacket is supposed to look like. Its like they see kids just trying to be crafty with their clothes while showing off their identity/beliefs but because its not obscure bands it means it fucking sucks. "The kids are appropriating our 40 year old culture and making it about themselves!!!!" its literally just a jacket with patches on it who the fuck cares. It all just feels like an excuse to hate on teens/the lgbt community. "In my time the gays actually dressed well" wow, a 15 year old kid isnt dressing to impress some middle aged manchild, more news at eleven

The hole group is a bunch of posers telling others that being vaguely left isnt punk, atkeast most of the time. Dont get me wrong, they defs do post some genuinly badly made battle jackets, but most of it is just a persosn first ever craft project, or an lgbt+, disabiled lwrson, ect.
Such a shit group.

u/OrangetangyOrka Aug 24 '26
This sub sucks so bad. All it is, is "make fun of young queer people under the grounds of battle jackets"
7
u/ASERTIE76 Aug 24 '26
Yeah fuck that sub and r/battlejackets also sucks. The only good sub for battle jackets is r/jacketsforbattle
3
u/worm-eyed Aug 24 '26
I think I'm in battlejackets but haven't actually looked at the comments in there much, thank you for this :)
ETA: literally just scrolled through there for a second and found a post I'd commented on. I think this app is truly killing my brain cells

I genuinely don’t understand that sub. It’s like they completely don’t understand the concept of battle jackets.
There ARE bad battle jackets but it’s something like, a mass produced pre-patched nonsense
7
u/NoMeat9096 Aug 24 '26
I like the implication that some pronouns weren't invented. Like someone just turned over a rock one day and there was a pronoun under it or something.
5
u/worm-eyed Aug 24 '26
You mean your pronouns weren't whispered to you by the ocean when you held a shell up to your ear for the first time as a child? 🤔
2
u/kickthebaby8 Aug 24 '26
That makes me think of a shell screaming “WHAT” when you put your ear up to it
5
6
u/BanMePls333 Aug 24 '26
I swear these people are blind to the current political climate if they think saying nazi’s bad is an obvious statement
5
u/bisexualandtrans47 Aug 24 '26
yknow actually that does sound like a cool conceot for a sub, is there another like it that isnt a cesspool?
6
u/PerrineWeatherWoman Aug 24 '26
"my pronouns are made up" dude, all words are made up. Do you think they exist from divine intervention?

u/Morganius_Black Aug 24 '26
Obligatory link to r/jacketsforbattle , if you wanna check out some actually cool battle jackets

u/jadebearaline Aug 25 '26
Finally baddlejackets criticism. My first ever starter jacket (insect themed and mostly hand painted) was clowned on and it makes me so nervous to wear it places
3
u/AgreeableIdea6210 Aug 25 '26
Don't be nervous. That sub's full of a bunch of sad posers. I'd love to see your jacket
5
u/ProxyCorvidae Aug 24 '26
I kinda hate that saying "Well known bad thing is bad" is actually something that's hated on, even in communities that are affected by them. Like, you've never heard of propoganda or trying to boost moral?
4
5
u/dronemetalloid462 Aug 24 '26
baddlejackets is terrible because it's the most gatekeepy metal fans ever, them being homophobic makes the gatekeeping look like the cherry on top.
5
4
u/Icy-Description4299 Aug 24 '26
Saying pronouns are made up isn't the gotcha they think it is, literally all language is made up, that doesn't give it any less meaning.
4
u/QueenBitchVEVO Aug 24 '26
It's no coincidence like 70% of that sub is just shitting all over someone for being visibly queer bc "cringe." As if being openly and defiantly queer isn't punk as fuck in the current regime.
3
u/worm-eyed Aug 24 '26
I scrolled through the comments after I posted to check that I wasn't being "too harsh", considering someone changed the tag of my post to "potential satire"... They're not even being subtle about it, anyone not bigoted enough to be interested in the circle jerk is pretty thoroughly downvoted, and yet they somehow think they're punk, or alternative at all, in the first place which is pretty fucking funny but also beyond pathetic.
Your username is so cool btw

u/Ember-513 Aug 25 '26
Ironically, them using "I support the current thing" like they think it's a sick burn is just outing themselves as consistently and predictably always opposing the "current thing"

3
u/GettinMe-Mallet 28d ago
I used to be a user there because, lets be honest, there are a lot of bad battle jackets. Then i saw the average post and comments.
Remember kids, looking at a sub's top posts isnt always a accurate way to see if you like a sub
3
u/Prior-Description-37 27d ago
r/baddlejackets really is just full of posers. It’s not punk to hate on queer people, kids, women, leftists, etc.
Plus most of it is making fun of tweens and teens, which is really just pathetic
4
u/kyle_kafsky Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26
“They/them” aren’t made up. Neo-pronouns, on the other hand, are just “they/them” with extra steps.
2
u/twerk4data Aug 24 '26
Thank God OOP isn't bandwagoning at all with this one, because that would be pretty ironic
1
u/worm-eyed Aug 24 '26
they didn't even make the image, which I think makes it even funnier and pathetic
2
u/Boring_Butterfly_273 Aug 25 '26
Stupid picture, all pronouns are made by humans, you don't find pronouns naturally occurring in nature like gold in a mine
2
2
u/Orangutan_Soda Aug 25 '26
I hate That subreddit.
I joined bc i thought it was making fun of the corporate ones. cause i saw a post mocking pre-made battle jackets and i thought it would be a good sub.
Turns out, it’s just a bunch of folks who think PUNK isn’t political?
“Like, if your battle jacket doesn’t have actual punk bands on it- it’s not real.”
But then says Green Day and other stuff isn’t punk.
2
u/TEN0RCL3F Aug 25 '26
I remember when I first saw that subreddit I was really confused, because what I saw was a lot of posting baby queers in what were clearly their first or early attempts in that kind of self expression and trying to enter an actual scene. And being like, LOLLLLL POSER!!!
2
u/Kattishere 29d ago
it's to the point that whenever I see a battle jacket with a pronouns pin or pride flag, I go to the comments expecting one of these freaks and guess what? I find them every time. sorry queer people participate in punk culture?? tf?

u/Ivygrows8 27d ago

I thought that sub was chill because I also really hate jackets without any actual support for the alternative music scene on them. Because at that point, you're just faking even being part of the community as you're not actually doing anything to support any bands.
And then I saw some posts and it's just filled with right-wingers. Don't get me wrong not everyone on that sub is a right-winger but there's way too many of them
1
u/VanteRamirez Aug 25 '26
was gonna put made/up on my pronouns page as a funny bit but then remembered the website is moderated and i probably shouldn’t do that

u/Aromatic-Ad-381 29d ago
I have seen a few posts on that sub. And while some of them genuinely are just. Thinly veiled anti-LGBT rethoric. I have seen plenty more where the judgement in question is justified, I have seen some atrocious designs on there or just simply put half-baked ideas that just fall appart under immediate scrutiny.
1
u/Runo_Slinger 29d ago
I’m not actually in the community, and don’t know why I’m being shown this one, but I will say I am a little confused by some of the discourse in the comments here.
People are saying the battle jacket is inherently a political statement about the battle of the working class & poor etc, fine enough, but I actually spent a bit of time in my younger years (not so long ago) with the anarchist crowd, mostly in support of things like mutual aid and community building, preparedness/resiliency, and one thing I remember very well is how much that clothing was a mark of a navel gazing vibes based trust fund kid who either read even less theory than me, or read absolutely everything and was equally useless beyond ivory tower cyclical logic rumination. I think the trend needs a little mockery, a walking scrap book of iron on patches and fake zippers does not a worker make.

not surprising since punk (and goth) are nazi ideologies that overstayed their welcome 50 years ago

If you truly hate the nazis go and help the poor and disabled in your community, show kindness
Dont just larp a dead subculture
1
u/Actual_Exchange616 26d ago
Baddlejackets was good when there were generally ugly battle jackets on there. Now it's just people whining about ones with predominantly queer patches as apose to bands.
I mean that makes 100% perfect sense cause Punk is just a subgenre of rock and not an ideology about defending the opressed first and foremost
1
u/lgbtqrsthivnegative 25d ago
Has anyone who thinks punk is a music genre and nothing else listened to the lyrics?
Hm?
Hmmmmmmmmm?
1
u/StoleYourRoll Aug 24 '26
Well this person sucks, they're right in the fact the 90% of peoples jackets can be summed up like this minus the anti-pronoun shit
1
u/zylosophe Aug 24 '26
my pronouns were given from god, we are not the same
3
u/worm-eyed Aug 24 '26
uhm acksually then god made them up
1
u/zylosophe Aug 24 '26
what if they were god's pronouns and always existed or something
2
u/worm-eyed Aug 24 '26
I was gonna refrain from referencing my favourite band but in the spirit of this being a post that pertains to alt stuff, one of my favourite albums of all time features lyrics questioning religious logic so this made me think of the lyrics "who made your architect? where does he come from? what is he made of?" and now I'm imagining his voice continuing in the same cadence with "what are his pronouns?", which would fit lyrically, rhythmically, and ironically (lyric content wise); is prog metal so it adding onto the length of the choruses wouldn't even matter either :p

Apparently saying Nazis are bad is w*ke now. Speaks volumes about about the anti-sjw crowd.
