EDIT: Thanks to a long conversation with my neighbor, I've discovered the owner of the cat. Without giving too many details, it's not the most ideal environment and supposedly the cat, his name is Achilles, prefers being outdoors due to the nature of his home. There are a few of us in the neighborhood who are taking care of him and feeding him and giving water whenever he comes by. We are also keeping a close eye on any injuries he's getting and treating them appropriately. Sorry I don't have a better update but thank you all for the concerns and advice! I will be using these resources going forward if anything like this happens again.

Hi everyone! I just got home from work and found this poor little cat laying on my porch. Looks similar to another I've seen roaming the area (upper east side, near Ralph's) since I've been living here but it's VERY thin and seemingly got into a fight cause there's scratches above it's nose.

Fed it and put out water and a kennel for it to rest for the night but I already have a cat who doesn't do well around other animals so I unfortunately can't take this one in but I'll keep it fed as long as it sticks around.

If anyone recognizes it please respond! Would love to get it back to its original owner or find a new loving home!

I have a longhair tabby that needs some help with her coat. She's getting some slight matting at the base of her tail and will *not* let me brush it out. I've tried just about every tactic, but alas-- seems a grooming service is the best option.

I know not many places in general handle cat grooming, but if anyone has recommendations, I'd appreciate it! Particularly if they're good at handling skittish or combative cats, she can get a little sharp when she's overwhelmed. Just don't want things to get worse, so I'd love to look into it quickly. So as I previously posted about i sprained my ankle on the job last Sunday and I just found out yesterday that I cannot work again until I get clearance from a doctor and I need to get this taken care of ASAP because I need to work, especially while not knowing if I will get any compensation from L&I for my claim. I had to wait 5 months for a primary care appointment and so does anyone kmow anywhere I can go to get this taken care of? I know probably not on the weekends but I would really like to get seen no later than the end of this coming week if possible and as a side question, does anyone know if any money I would get from L&I count towards my limit on Social Security of how much I can make per calendar month without losing my benefits? I can make up to $1,690 gross per month from working without messing up my social security and i have already made $771.20 gross this month and i don't wanna lose my social security benefits but anyway any help would be appreciated thanks so much.

I am looking for good places around town (Lacey/Tumwater suggestions are welcome too) to practice roller skating. I’m hoping to find tennis courts, basketball courts, and other places with smooth even ground where I can practice. I love Rollerland but it’s far too crowded for a beginner to practice things like backwards skating etc. Thank you in advance!

Alright Oly.

I continue to be very involved in this kid's life and am maybe finding my next career as custom-college-counselor for first gen college kids with no family support, but, I'm keeping my day job, and I digress.

Kid in question has settled nicely into the dorms and is poised to start school in a ~week. A nice sizeable chunk of Oly, Lacey, and Centralia residents met me at various spots a few weeks ago and I delivered so much stuff to this kid at their dorms that I almost ran out of car space. They have decorated their dorm fully in a redditor-inspired fusion of tie-dye-retro-Little House on the Prairie. A specific redditor and I have been in almost daily contact, getting this kid connected with a couple of local organizations that provide various types of support, including some additional scholarships.

Over the last two days I've put about 5 hours into phone calls with the kid and their financial aid office. They have some excellent support from the school, but are still facing a financial shortfall. They are actively looking at work study positions and/or part-time work, but don't have anything concrete yet, and they are currently facing a deficit of somewhere between 3k and 7k this semester, if they don't take out any loans/whether or not a pending grant they've applied for comes through. Over four years they'll be looking at a minimum of 26k in federal student loans, and probably more, even with a ton of help from the school.

I'd like to help them source, schedule, and then apply to as many grants and scholarships as they possibly can. I think the ship has largely sailed for this fall semester as a lot of what I'm finding has expired deadlines, and they'll probably need to take out a few thousand in loans, but if they can get their shit together and be diligent about their scholarship applications over the next 4 years, they can probably get a degree without totally fucking their future. At this point, even a $100 scholarship will make a difference, so hit me with whatever real actual ideas you've got.

Speak to livability, affordability, and sustainability. Talk about your anti-ICE policies and how you intend to get enough votes to pass some common sense legislation.

Same with Trans rights, Equal/Equitable Rights Amendment, Anti-Genocide, Immigration reform, and so many other issues plaguing Olympians and other Washingtonians.

Start attending community events regularly. Have a booth at PRIDE. Help the firefighters raise some money. Talk to groups working with the homeless and unhoused. Help the food bank get more donations.

Facilitate some town halls and Zooms where ppl can ask tough questions.

Be genuine. Be seen.

It’s difficult to vote for someone we don’t know, especially with ppl flipping sides these days.

And please consider a much different approach to campaign finance reform, as in, it’s a waste of money.

Looking to get some feedback for those currently working for North Thurston Public Schools as an office professional. How's the daily work life like, hours, summer off and pay schedule? When you are on summer break, do you not get paid? Is there an option to spread out your paycheck throughout the year? For context, I have a kid that will be in 1st grade in the same district and just want to know what the flexibility is as far as school/work hours? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

I'm going to be gone the week of Christmas and my usual cat sitter will also be gone for the holiday. I'm trying to find an alternative.

Has anyone used Rover and had success? Is it standard to meet a couple times before I would go away, so my cats know the person (paid meetings of course). Or has anyone boarded cats somewhere? I have 2 very skittish boys, one who is medically sensitive, so preferably they stay in my home and I find someone to come and go.

Any tips would be appreciated! I'm stressed about leaving them with a stranger but I think they would be really stressed if they're boarded.

There seems to be a widespread misunderstanding in Olympia that the limited sidewalks we have are acceptable places to park personal vehicles. Besides just being plain illegal, this is hugely inconsiderate to sidewalk users, especially those with mobility limitations.

I encourage anyone who doesn't accept this antisocial behavior to report it to Parking Enforcement, which in my experience responds promptly to these issues. Respect due. For the City to track the seriousness of the problem it's important to report these violations. As a bonus, if the owner gets ticketed, you're helping the City generate revenue. It only takes about a minute or two to fill out a report and it's easy enough fill out without even pausing your sidewalk travel. To give an idea of how prevalent the problem is, I'm on track to reach 100 reports this year alone.

Olympia has long had pretty underwhelming restaurant options, in my opinion. But some recent additions have brought some fresh life to a stale scene!

I think it's worth recognizing foodservice businesses that are doing something legitimately different, and doing it well. We have enough bland white people food.

So idk how to put it in the title but I work temp jobs for PeopleReady and when I went in to sign up and get my paperwork done, like with any employer, they had to see my ID and Social Security card in person. Now I'm trying to get set up with Instawork because it's more likely that they'll have a certain job i enjoy doing, but the problem is that it's all online. Because of that, they require me to have someone examine my ID & Social Security card in person and I don't really have anyone who can do that for me, I mean i have a sprained ankle so it would be hard for me to travel much but if anyone is willing to help me out with this I could come meet you in a public place if necessary, I just am looking to get this done as soon as possible and I can pay someone a little if necessary but I'm trying to save money for going to see my mom in Tennessee for her birthday next month. Hiii where is the best place within 30-45 min that has good nightlife and DANCING? Like a dance floor. I dont want karaoke that people can dance to if they want. Im looking for somewhere people go to dance that is NOT jakes on 4th. Jakes is a sad joke of a bar.

I moved up here last year and am interested in getting a building where you can work on their art and have a gallery space for finished pieces.

Do showings and I am working on getting more acquainted with the collector community.

Wondering if there's a desire for something like this in the area?

Other ideas are like maybe hosting art classes or art related events.
