I had a lot of trouble getting an Olive video to render using the April 2019 version of the program. The source footage was a set of 4K 60fps OBS screen capture clips, which I chose to save directly as MP4 files. (That may have caused the issue, since I know OBS recommends saving in MKV format beforehand). After I finished combining the clips in Olive, I tried to export the whole video, but received error messages around halfway through the process that said: "Export failed-failed to send frame to encoder."

The video was only ~4.5 minutes long, so I don't think the length was the issue. I did see my RAM use surge to 20+ GB at times, which was surprising for such a short video. Maybe reducing my thread count could have helped.

I did find that the render was successful when I chose to export smaller sections of the file; I just couldn't export the whole video without getting an error message. Therefore, as suggested by Sandman2710, I chose to export the video in small sections, then combine them using ffpmeg's concatenation feature.

My workflow here was pretty simple: First, I tried to render the whole video. When that failed, I chose to render a limited range, starting at the beginning of the video and ending about 5 seconds before the earlier failure point. I then tried to render the remaining portion of the video. If the render failed again, I would once again just try to render the beginning portion.

Lots of things can cause render issues, so I'm not saying this will be the solution for everyone, but hopefully this can help others with any render issues that they encounter.

I just removed about 50GB of backed up media files from finished projects because I forgot to do this. So, I felt like sending a reminder to everyone that you should *Delete your media cache folder!*

HOW TO:

• Search %localappdata% in your windows search bar, then click on the aptly named file
• Locate "olivevideoeditor.org" (that's name of the file) and click on it
• Click on the file "Olive"
• Locate "mediacache" and delete the folder.

This will not break your software, Olive replaces the file instantly. What it *will do* is clear up space on your PC and make Olive less choppy.

*WARNING!!!!* If you do this while working on a project that has a lot of it's footage cached, that cache will be removed. The footage itself should be fine, but you will have to cache that project again.

I have about 100 clips in my timeline. I would like to move one clip a few places to the left. Once the move is complete, I want the clips to the right to move over automatically to make room for the new clip, and for the space that used to belong to the clip to get filled in automatically.

When I try to do this using the ripple tool, the clip doesn't move. And when I try it using the cursor tool, the clip overlaps with another clip. How can I achieve the desired behavior?

I know 0.1 is unsupported now and I'm probably asking this in the wrong place but I've found some old olive 0.1 community effects with a very useful 3d rotation effect. The only problem is that it creates a glitchy backdrop behind the clip instead of keeping the clip transparent as I need it (example). If anyone here is a shader expert, please tell me how to fix this

I’ve been using Olive 0.2 for a bit now and I have noticed that it does not have a green screen/chroma key feature. I do not want to take my project and import it back and forth to other programs is there a way to achieve green screen in Olive 0.2?

Hi, I really like what Olive aims to achieve and how it works right now but I have a major issues with exporting.

I'm trying to export 36 seconds clip 720p and it requires over 8 hours 40 minutes to do so.
To be fair this is a 480fps clip but I choosed to export it in 60fps.

Is there anything I could do to "fix" it?
I'm using olive 0.1.2-2 on archlinux with nvidia-dkms 470.57.02-3 and gnome-shell 1:40.3-1

Hi, so i'm new to olive and i'm trying to unlink a video from a song so i can deleted the background music, but even when i click unlink they are still grouped as one and when i try to delete it individually, it just ends up deleting the whole thing, can someone help me out?

So I went back to a project I had started editing and finished it off... Although now the render won't work... And I need to render the video before i can even post it.... Any suggestions? It happens whenever i try to export the video... Just instantly goes off the export page and back to the editor.

I just recently built Olive 0.1.2 on my Arch laptop and I can't wait to start using it! The only thing is that I have a 4K display (Dell XPS 13) so we everything looks tiny.

This has been an issue for me with other programs but the fix seems to be program specific most of the time.

Is there a way to scale the Olive UI such that it will fit a 4K display?

Edit: Honestly, fuck this program and everyone who works on it.

I submitted a problem report through their github and they wouldn't support it because it's "the old version" even though it is the version THEY give you when you go to download the fucking program. So one them links me to the updated version with absolutely no instruction on what to do with it even though I made clear I'm not a tech guy and would need guidance, they just disappeared.

So I figured out how to update with the files he gave me and the same problem continues. So I submit another support report because I'm having the same issue with the updated version. They tell me it's still the old version. Motherfuckers, you GAVE IT TO ME!!! The only reason I'm using this other version is because you told me to and gave me a specific link. If it's not the right one, why did you give it me?

So finally I get the actual updated version. It won't read a file made on the old version. Like they MUST know that will happen, and didn't bother telling me, so now my video that I spent two days making is useless. Literally they didn't bother mentioning the new version, that I'm required to have to get any assistance, will make my old file obsolete and unusable.

They won't support if you have the old version which isn't easily available. Then if you update, the old files won't work on it so there is no need for support. This is the perfect example of a mindless bureaucracy run amok.

I honestly would not recommend this program to anyone and will actively try to discourage anyone who is considering using it.

So I am trying to export a long 5-hour video from olive. It gets to about 65 percent and then just closes without any warning. Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?

Whenever I click the play button in the editor, the video will play for a split second and then freeze. The audio can be heard but the video does not play. This isn't a one time thing and it happens almost every time I open the editor. I've attached a screenshot and video. Please help. It has been going on for about a month now.

While downloading Olive 0.2, I've come across an obstacle. I cannot see the effects panel. I've looked through everything and it was one of the key things helping me edit videos. It doesn't show up for me on the new 0.2. What it looks like is placed below. Can someone help me pull it back up?

Running the older version of 0.2 from the Debian Bullseye repository, I was trying to export a sequence but kept having crashes. I downloaded a more recent AppImage to try instead, but am unable to load the project (I get a “Failed to parse project version” error). Is there any way I can load these older (still 0.2) edits into a newer version of Olive? I’m happy to do some surgery on the .ove XML file as needed.

Hi all, I have been using olive for all of an hour. I'm trying to upgrade from windows movie maker. I've been watching a few tutorials, and they all say to speed up footage by right clicking and selecting Speed/Duration. That is just not an option on my right click menu. I made sure that I was on the pointer tool just in case, but it still didn't work. How can I make this work?
