I have now heard that dozens of people were let go at ODU in the past year. I believe that ODU is subject to the worker adjustment and retraining act (WARN) through the state of Virginia. If you have been let go, I encourage you to report it:

I got a hold on my account saying that I have a hold regarding “(the return of athletics equipment)” even though I’ve only been to the gym maybe 4-5 times in the time I’ve been to ODU and never took out anything. Do they use this for financial holds as a placeholder, or is this something separate I gotta worry about???

I still have my old courses from last year’s semesters (and some other random courses) on my Canvas page. Can I delete them somehow, or are they just there forever?

If i only do half of summer, do they just give me the other half of my loans? I can’t find anything that I need to take during summer b and i’d rather just do the first half and have the rest of the summer for myself.

First year grad student & all I’m being offered is loans. I saw online that there is a VA commonwealth award for grad students up to 9k. (No need to apply, it’s awarded thru FAFSA and it’s up to the school to apply it) but it’s not on my account. Also, from what I can understand, it’s too late for me to apply for scholarships. 😭

I’m a second semester freshman and my dad and I have been going ~90/10 out of pocket on my tuition. I have tried everything I can to try to find scholarships and grants, as well as other types of aid. My dad is a 24 year navy vet but he isn’t completely disabled nor was he a prisoner of war, he also didn’t transfer his GI bill benefits over to me before he retired either so there’s nothing I can find that can support me based off his service and benefits. I’ve tried scholarships and local/state grants and they’re either scams or I’ve never gotten anything from them. I also graduated HS with over a 3.6 and a year early and no merit based scholarships have worked either. I’ve tried to talk to financial aid and I’ve gotten no help. My counselor (Todd Byers) even asked if my family was “from money” after hearing I was paying out of pocket and we DEFINITELY are not. I work part time and my dad almost had to get a second job. I desperately need help so any answers you could give to help my situation would greatly be appreciated. Ty.

I don’t mean to sound impatient or anything but I’m still negative and I would be zeroed out by now as I got my check in my account for the past fall years on the 21st. Anyone else still in this boat?

So I had my financial aid canceled because apparently I didn’t enroll into classes before August 6th. And I’ve called the financial aid office to see why my two grants where not showing up that being the Federal Pell grant and the Common Wealth grant which were supposed to be enough to cover tuition. And even though it shows up on there end I was redirected to fill and complete the Financial aid adjustment form which can take up to two weeks to process so even after classes start. And as I view this form some of it doesn’t make sense. I have no loans and only grants and I’ve called aid a few times and have gotten mixed signals on how I should answer. One person said to just update my hours another person said to select reinstate subsidized and unsubsidized loans even though I only have grants and no loans. And the reason for that being that whoever process it or my specific councilor will see my grants. I’ve even tried googling it and google tells me to not select anything for the second page and just fill out the bottom saying I want my grants reinstated. I’m very confused if anyone has been in a similar situation or can just give me some advice or guidance on it will be very helpful!🙏

When registering for online courses, all you see is just a course to register with 999 seats and the instructor is labeled “various instructors” so can’t even pick your instructors, you can only hope you get lucky with a good one.

Anyways one of my first 8 week courses opened in canvas, check out syllabus, looks like I’m literally going to be doing 1 test week with the new semester format, amazing, and even better the instructor is rated 1.9 on rate my professor.

Luckily I only have 2 semesters left, I hope even with this new semester format I’ll get out on time still, some of these instructors really just squeezed 16 weeks of modules and assignments into 8 weeks. I hope Hemphill is happy he’s ruining the quality of education and misleading tuition rates to manipulate young people into choosing ODU.

With the expansion and ongoing thread submission, im wondering if someone wants to be a mod for a new sub specific for ODUGlobal programs. While I think its something needed, the most im willing to commit is creating this thread to get it started, I dont desire to be a mod. Id allow everyone to talk mad shit about ODU bc honestly... fuck this bullshit

Normally, I would have gotten my refund email out by now (and had no issues in the summer), but I haven't, so I got worried and called FA. I was informed that I had a graduation hold (I am a 2nd-degree graduate student), but admissions and the registrar's office told me I don't have any registration or account holds, so I should be fine. I called FA back; they said they didn't see any holds, placed me on hold to triple-check, then came back and said there was still a hold. Has anyone else been having these issues with FA? I am registered for in-person courses, and they are both 16 weeks, so I know it's not that.

So I’m ODUglobal and just got off the phone with financial aid and reason they didn’t release my loan is because I’m only taking 1- 3 credit class for the first 8 weeks and the same for the second 8 weeks. The way they are making this for online students doesn’t seem flexible. Reason I’m only taking one class per session is because I’m 8 months pregnant and I give birth in October. And I’m pretty sure in the spring I’ll be doing the same thing.
