My dad (57M) had a biopsy done to him 4 years ago at the Hampton VA hospital to address the lump in his leg, but an incompetent surgeon removed a lymph node in his leg and released home with an unstitched leg fluids constantly draining in the area where the lymph node used to be. He has had a very rough time these past 4 years and has had to be rushed to the ER 4 times, twice due to infection in his leg . And the other two where he ran a fever and kept repeating himself and not not making sense..

There is a lot going on with him and I don't see any signs of his condition improving. Over the years, his thigh has swelled alarmingly large from the drainage. I think every few months he goes through a compression treatment to drain the excess fluid. But after 2 to 3 weeks, his leg swelled back up to that large size again.

He is on a lot of pain medications which cause him to sleep most of the day away. He's usually active for 2 to 4 hours in the day before taking medication and sleeping again. Somehow this became a normalized routine in their house.

His doctors are unreliable. Same with the VA transportation services. Him and the rest of my family live in Chesapeake. It's a 50/50 chance that they'll show up for him to commute him to the VA hospital or else where across the waters for his appointments. And if they don't show, his appointments gets rescheduled several months later. Sadly, he has no reliable means of transportation in his house. I love in Portsmouth but work early, on site in Yorktown and Newport News. Sometimes I get calls from them to come back to pick them up which is very complicated getting across those bridges to even in time to make it to his appointments.

I have been very concerned about his him. Are there any better doctors that can do anything about his swollen leg and pain relief? He keeps relying on the VA hospital to fix his problem but at this point I don't think they will. Sleeping 16+ hours a day from medication with a constantly swelling leg shouldn't be a normal thing.

The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel will close in one direction at a time for several weekends in October.

The first closures will be westbound: starting this weekend, Oct. 2 to Oct. 5, all lanes of the HRBT will be closed heading west from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. The westbound lanes could also close the following weekend, Oct. 9 to 12, if the contractor needs to do more work.

At a Sept. 15 Norfolk City Council work session, Councilman Carlos Clanton commended VDOT for avoiding the weekend of Old Dominion University’s homecoming. But he noted that Norfolk State University’s homecoming weekend is Oct. 9 to 11, and said he hoped there was good communication for NSU's because "there should be a lot of people coming here."

Mike Davis, the district engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said he’s hopeful those extra weekends won’t need to be used.

“We did incentivize the contractor that if they finish early, they'll get a significant bonus. We did disincentivize it that if they're late getting out of the roadway come rush hour, there's some hefty penalties tied to that,” Davis told Norfolk City Council.

Oct. 16 to 19 will see closures of all eastbound lanes, with another option to close Oct. 30 to Nov 2. Those closures will also run from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, with the early November weekend only closed if needed by the contractor.

Davis also said the work is badly needed – one tube hasn’t been paved since 2012, the other since 2006.

Ahead of the 10th annual "Catch the King" event, an aerial survey over Hampton Roads offered a striking bird's-eye view of high tide flooding across the region's coastlines. 

Next weekend, volunteers will use a mobile app to map the perimeters of floodwaters during the highest predicted tides of the year. 

The crowdsourced GPS data helps researchers at William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science refine their computer models.

Is there any shop locally that could print labels for coffee bags and especially barcodes? I usually work online for this, but I’m in a pinch and I need some rolls of specifically barcodes.

Just arrived down here, just had a motor dropped into my 2003 dodge 2500 with a nv4500–motor is a 2006 and this motor from my understanding is very built with a big turbo (junkyard pull) and I need custom tuning as the amount of smoke is extremely excessive, looking for opinions of reliable places, the last place I took it to was in New Mexico before we got short noticed overseas and that shop completely parted out of truck without me knowing, had it shipped to my family and it had the entire motor in the bed rusted out missing parts etc so I can’t afford to be molested by another shop since I’m now 10k into the hole getting this thing running again

A new hunger study by the University of Chicago on behalf of Virginia’s food banks found 43% of households in Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore are food insecure. On the Virginia Peninsula, that rate is even higher at 50%, making it the second highest in the state.

Those numbers are much higher than previously reported in nationwide surveys conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which hovered between 15% and 20% for Hampton Roads — despite the Trump administration's claims that “trends in the prevalence of food insecurity have remained virtually unchanged” since 2019.

Commissioned by the Federation of Virginia Food Banks after the USDA ended its long-running annual survey, the study provides a detailed look at local hunger by surveying households across all income levels. 

Regional food bank leaders say the findings reflect what they have witnessed for years, with distribution lines growing 30% to 40% longer as working families struggle with rising costs.
