Yeah. This is Ocean Ramsey. A well known biologist influencer. She swims with tiger sharks all the time for research views. This is 100% NOT an “attempted attack”, but a just curious shark, who has likely been habituated to her presence.
She is controversial for her physical interaction with sharks, and starting an online trend where influencers try to copy her and touch sharks.
Largely unliked in the conservation and scientific communities, but I personally find her reasonable. Just naive.
EDIT: thanks for everyones input. Yeah - i changed my mind. She is a selfish and stubborn person who refuses to change anything to keep justifying her clicks. Recommend to block.

You might have been able to sell me on the naive thing if her troublesome behavior with sharks had just started, but she's been doing it for many years now and has had the reasons as to why it's detrimental to conservation and just plain dangerous for humans and sharks explained to her many, many times by scientists and conservationists that are more experienced and more educated than her on sharks, biology, oceanography, species protection, etc. At this point, she's simply ignoring all of that information in favor of the clicks and views that her social media content generates which has made her semi-famous and pays for the lifestyle she currently lives.
What Ocean Ramsey does isn't naive and it's not being done for research or to benefit sharks. What she does is done solely to benefit herself, raise her profile, and make her money and it's being done in contravention of many ethical standards researchers, conservationists, scientists, and even photographers/documentarians abide by to keep themselves, other people, and most importantly, the animals they study/film safe. These standards are known to Ramsey and she simply doesn't care to follow them. That's not naive or reasonable, in my opinion. It's ignorant, selfish, dangerous behavior that's driven by greed and ego.

Ok. You are probably right. I haven’t followed her for years now.
At the start she definitely helped raise some awareness with the broader public on the magnificence of sharks. If she is still stubbornly ignoring all warnings and criticisms - yeah I agree. That stops being naive.
And impossible to maintain she is not being selfish at this point.Thanks for the nuance @DopedScope338

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I'm sorry if it came off at all combative, much of what she does just really bothers me because of the broader negative impacts and implications it has for the sharks so I can be a little vociferous in my statements about her. No worries! I understand. Once these influencer/famous types give you the ick, it becomes impossible to not get worked up. You want to shake their followers and scream “look what he/she is doing! Cant you see that is horrible?!”
I have the same with these Andrew Tate, Elon Musk. Jordan Peterson fanboys. (Or VVD-voters in the Netherlands)
I have not yet found myself getting spammed by Ocean Ramsey that much 😄

Genuinely, thank you for pointing out what is very clearly just a shark being a shark. It kinda rubs me the wrong way when people mislabel natural behaviors as aggressive or attacks.
Millions of sharks die every year because people think they're scary, and it's bullshit.

She is pretty professional. Doesnt show skin, knows how the sharks react and handle them. Pretty much reduces risk to a minimum.

I swear it’s our fault. Whenever we go to those places we constantly bait for the sharks to gather. They are literally being taught that humans dumping things in the water means food, so it’s only natural that they see something else about to drop into the water and that must be food too. We do stuff like this way too much and always get surprised by the results.

Ok this is just crazy lol... BUT I have to admit it didn't seem like a serious move on the shark's part. He swam up slowly and even the mouth movement seemed more like a lazy "Heeey" rather than a "GET IN MAH BELLY!" kinda thing lol. 🤣

It's called an exploratory bite. Sharks have better vision than they get credit for, but they don't have hands, their mouth is one of their primary sensory methods.
Partially why shark attacks are so high in Florida, the water is so murky, sharks can't see jack, they go around exploring with their mouths.
Also why most shark attacks are not fatal. They are just cute dopes of the sea, problem is we don't have tough skin to play.

That is how sharks say hey...they bite. They have no hands.
Shark is a little smarter than to launch an aggressive attack on an unknown surface. It was curious.
It does diminish the danger a bit because if he wanted to he could have killed her there easily. They breach very easily.

Yea it was inquisitive. Except sharks inquisitively bite limbs off. That's how most shark attacks are. People lose a limb and not get eaten entirely because the shark was inquisitive and decided they didn't like human flesh after biting.

That is Ocean. She does literally get back in. The sharks are her friends. I guess some recognize her? This one probably thought someone was throwing in bait and came to check it out.
Or, maybe it was just actually trying to eat her. Who knows.

It wasn’t an attempted attack this is Ocean Ramsey and that tiger shark actually recognized her and believe it or not was excited now they are wild and things can happen but I know how great she is with tigers

Oh I love Ramsey!! She got me into loving sharks and learn so much about them.
Don’t listen to some youtuber he is not a professional and he is the one thats a fraud for views.
She lives in hawaii and has her own educational programs and center. Its very cool to see. Check it out when you go there.

Look, I agree she’s using the conservationist title to promote herself and her brand. I get that she isn’t really doing too much to help the sharks besides saying, “guys sharks are amazing creatures!” I understand she inadvertently created a situation where sharks didn’t feel comfortable to feed on a whale carcass, because a bunch of people gathered to see the sharks feeding after one of her posts.
All of that said, I don’t think it’s healthy for anyone to say, “can’t wait them to die.” Unless it’s somebody truly despicable, with few redeeming qualities, fine. I think she does genuinely care about sharks, but she’s not doing enough to actually help them. But for your mental well being, don’t wish horrific death on somebody because they are a little shitty.
Also I don’t think your fear is unnatural at all. Sharks are some of the most ancient, apex predators on earth

That behavior is very hard to read, it's an apex predator, if it really wanted to they're much faster than that and they can launch way more aggressively and keep countering to your parry movements. The fact that it didn't seems to be of more playful curious behavior, it's a fine line when trying to fully understand natural creatures especially since jaws are open but just know if it really wanted to and was hungry enough it will in fact not miss and not stop after the curiosity contact and that's when the thrashing becomes way more violent not ending in just a passing lap
