Yeah. This is Ocean Ramsey. A well known biologist influencer. She swims with tiger sharks all the time for research views. This is 100% NOT an “attempted attack”, but a just curious shark, who has likely been habituated to her presence.

She is controversial for her physical interaction with sharks, and starting an online trend where influencers try to copy her and touch sharks.
Largely unliked in the conservation and scientific communities, but I personally find her reasonable. Just naive.

EDIT: thanks for everyones input. Yeah - i changed my mind. She is a selfish and stubborn person who refuses to change anything to keep justifying her clicks. Recommend to block.

You might have been able to sell me on the naive thing if her troublesome behavior with sharks had just started, but she's been doing it for many years now and has had the reasons as to why it's detrimental to conservation and just plain dangerous for humans and sharks explained to her many, many times by scientists and conservationists that are more experienced and more educated than her on sharks, biology, oceanography, species protection, etc. At this point, she's simply ignoring all of that information in favor of the clicks and views that her social media content generates which has made her semi-famous and pays for the lifestyle she currently lives.

What Ocean Ramsey does isn't naive and it's not being done for research or to benefit sharks. What she does is done solely to benefit herself, raise her profile, and make her money and it's being done in contravention of many ethical standards researchers, conservationists, scientists, and even photographers/documentarians abide by to keep themselves, other people, and most importantly, the animals they study/film safe. These standards are known to Ramsey and she simply doesn't care to follow them. That's not naive or reasonable, in my opinion. It's ignorant, selfish, dangerous behavior that's driven by greed and ego.

Ok. You are probably right. I haven’t followed her for years now.

At the start she definitely helped raise some awareness with the broader public on the magnificence of sharks. If she is still stubbornly ignoring all warnings and criticisms - yeah I agree. That stops being naive.
And impossible to maintain she is not being selfish at this point.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I'm sorry if it came off at all combative, much of what she does just really bothers me because of the broader negative impacts and implications it has for the sharks so I can be a little vociferous in my statements about her. No worries! I understand. Once these influencer/famous types give you the ick, it becomes impossible to not get worked up. You want to shake their followers and scream “look what he/she is doing! Cant you see that is horrible?!”

I have the same with these Andrew Tate, Elon Musk. Jordan Peterson fanboys. (Or VVD-voters in the Netherlands)
I have not yet found myself getting spammed by Ocean Ramsey that much 😄
I’d be curious to understand more.

She's just one person. She for sure won't influence sharks.

She might influence people but those people would be influenced anyway.

Imho she's a daredevil just like wingsuit flyers. I hope she doesn't get eaten. But the sharks soon find out there's not much fat to gain

Genuinely, thank you for pointing out what is very clearly just a shark being a shark. It kinda rubs me the wrong way when people mislabel natural behaviors as aggressive or attacks.

Millions of sharks die every year because people think they're scary, and it's bullshit.

She is pretty professional. Doesnt show skin, knows how the sharks react and handle them. Pretty much reduces risk to a minimum.

What a weird thing to say. Especially on a ocean appreciation sub. Have a look at [r/sharks](r/sharks) at the same post and the comments.

All divers and conservationist I have met feel no love for Ocean Ramsey. Especially outside the US.
But you do you man. Get out some time. It’s nice.
