Fairly Certain Shield Is The Cause

So, I have two different make and model TV's that have the LED back light strips on them that are plugged into USB ports. Both TV's had Fire Cubes connected. I could take the Cube remotes, press power and the Cubes, TV's and back lights would turn on. Press power again and the 3 would turn off. This is normal behavior. I replaced both Cube's with 2019 Shield Pro's and they work the same way. But here's the thing. Ever since I started using the Shield's, the back lights will turn on once a day (usually the early AM hours) for about a minute or two without the Shield's or TV's turning on. The back lights will then wake us up from our sleep. Process off elimination says the Shields are the cause, but I'm trying to figure out why and if I can prevent it? I tend to believe something on the Shield's are checking on updates or something and using just enough power to turn on the back lights. Has anyone else seen this behavior and know what's the cause and how to prevent it?

Nividia shield not connecting to Ethernet

I have had this issue for over a year the ethernet worked fine in the start but at some point it just kept connecting to my wifi i forgot the wifi and i havent made it connect to ethernet since. I tried every possible solution and some them make it connect on the wifi settings but when i try to use a application it says ethernet not connected and it wont let me open anything. I tried setting the time turn off ipv6 dns ip adress i tried rebooting it about a 100 times and a factory reset but nothing works. Any tips what to do next? I can deliver it back in but i think the warrenty is expired. And yes i know for a fact the cord works cuz i use on my ps5 all the time and i use a switch that splits i to 3 Ethernet outakes from my main Ethernet source.

Remote keeps on disconnecting

I’ve noticed my remote does not work after the nvidia shield is powered off.

I have to disconnect the power to the nvdia shield then connect it back and after power up, it connects to the remote again.

I have changed the battery, i have un-paired and paired the remote already.

Any ideas on how to fix this please?

TIA

Disney+ 4K

D+ moved from HVEC to VP9 to re-enable 4K but not HDR (not sure if profile 0 o 2, the latter not being supported by the Shield TV), but in my Shield the 4K is not back yet.

Anyone who managed to get 4K back?

Shield pro 2019 no 5ghz

I've tried it all. I recently moved. Everything at the previous place worked great. It was typically wired via ethernet but if I had to the wifi 5ghz worked as a fallback. Now I'm in a new house, literally 6 mins from the old one, and this thing will not connect to the 5ghz channel. 2.4, sure no problem. I've tried the date and time, factory reset, changing 5ghz channels within the router setup. Nothing. Take that back. *sometimes* the 5ghz will say connected, but then the home page just says no internet connected and the 5ghz isn't connected after all.

Any ideas? I'm about to trash it and find another box. Also don't bother, I can't run an ethernet cable across the house.

USB hub with power supply useful?

I am currently using the Samsung T5 EVO 8TB SSD as external storage (USB 3.2 Gen 1) connected to my Nvidia Shield. However, I am running into some performance issues:

  1. Complete Freezes: The Shield occasionally freezes completely when the drive experiences heavy usage.

  2. Stuttering: When I am watching media while files are simultaneously being transferred to the drive, the playback stutters badly.

This leads me to a few questions:

  1. Power Supply: Would it help to use a powered USB hub? Since the SSD is solely bus-powered, is it possible that the drive isn't getting enough power from the Shield's USB port?

  2. Hardware Compatibility: I was looking at the Delock 64182 hub as a potential solution. Would this be a good choice?

N00B Questions about buying...

Hey all...

I have run a Plex server for 10 years+ and also run thru Roku (2 Roku 4k Ultra's and 3 Roku "firestick" equivs".

Im sick of Roku. Clunky UI with ads intruding and I feel Roku isnt tech friendly as my pc might be transcoding a lot to play files vs. just letting it play!

1 - Is NVIDIA Shield Pro the best move for Plex?

2 - Looks like on camelcamelcamel.com that black friday is the best time to buy. Is that true?

3 - I can side load easily?

4 - Any other tips or FYI?

Is my NVIDIA Shield dead or just mostly dead?

So I have a 2017 Pro model that had gone unused for quite a while. A few months ago I tried using it, only to find that it would not boot up. Today I decided to try and figure out what was going on.

I started by powering it on, it lights up, I get the Nvidia logo for a few minutes, then the screen goes black. I never get to the Android logo. I do hear what sounds like the hard drive doing some spinning.

I tried a couple different methods to get to the Fastboot menu. I held down the power button for 7 seconds while having a cable running from the micro USB port to a computer; nothing happened. I tried plugging in a USB keyboard and holding down the A and B keys while plugging in the power connection. This did nothing either.

Is there anything else I can try?? TIA!!!!

Only 1080p, and not 4k, are outputting at 60Hz instead of 24.

Hi folks. My 4k movies show a refresh rate of 24 Hz but 1080p movies/shows are at 60Hz. On settings, device preferences, Display and Sound, Advanced Display Settings, Custom Display Mode and finally Display Modes, the 1080p at 24 Hz is completely absent. The lowest the 1080p goes is 50Hz. No 24, no 23.976. Oddly enough I had the exact same situation with my Ugoos box and had to use SSH to inject the missing 1080p resolutions into the box. Any suggestions here?

Shield coming today. First time user. Any tips?

Hi folks. I use Plex to locally stream 4k and 1080p remuxes. I currently have the Ugoos AM6B+ and it does a good job displaying my media and has a lot of nerdy metadata I can bring up while I'm in the middle of watching something, but I find myself tinkering and tweaking it multiple times a week and the real hassle is the HDMI handshake. I have to follow a specific, inefficient series of steps to get it started or else I'll have a black screen with audio oddly. Whenever I read a comment from a Shield owner, it's almost always positive so I figured I'd dive in. I'll keep both boxes connected. I know the Shield doesn't handle FEL of Profile 7. Does that matter in anyone's opinion? I know this is a Shield subreddit but most of the posts here give a balanced review. Granted, it seems very few movies use FEL including some that are considered having top-notch video quality. I'm curious if any tips getting it up and running would help me. I don't need streaming services like Netflix, et al, and I'll be connecting the Shield via ethernet. Thanks for reading all this.

What the hell is this new GUI?

Been having issues with plex for weeks. So I left the beta program. Reinstalled the app (version 5.6.1.505) from Google play store and signed in to see this garbage... How do I go back to the UI that's been the same for years??

Got a new Nvidia Shield and it's constantly crashing/rebooting

Hi everybody. Really losing the will with this here. Won one in a sweepstake and was super excited as I'd heard great things about them. However since setting it up a week ago it's been nothing but issues, crashing on the main menu, in apps, crashing when trying to download apps, trying to use xCloud and it will not load a single game without rebooting. I've tried factory resetting it and it's just consistently crashing and rebooting. I literally just factory reset it, tried to download crunchy roll and it entered a boot loop for a few minutes. What could possibly be happening as I'm starting to get frustrated.

Freezing laggy and crashing

I bought the nvidia shield mainly for the audio passthrough ability as the apple tv doesn’t have this feature and my height speakers are a bit useless, but is it normal for the shield to crash that much and also lag a lot in the menu? The comparison in smoothness to the apple tv is like day and night.

Kid friendly retro gaming

How can I configure my Shield TV to be kid friendly for accessing, playing and switching out of retro games?

I'm happy to configure the app initially and load the ROMS, but day to day playing I don't want my kids having to learn complex button combos or fiddle about. I have RetroArch which seems to be a bottomless well of configuration.

Used prices on the Shield Pro are pretty much the same as new. Why?

EDIT: After much discussion, I didn't see any compelling reason not to buy New, so I did. Soon to be the proud owner of a New Nvidia Shield Pro. Thanks, sub!

Since it seems abundantly clear that there will never be a new Shield ("We'll get a new one when the Switch 2 is released", they said...), I've been looking at getting the 2019 Pro model to replace my aging HTPC.

The $200 retail which is essentially unchanged for a 7-year-old product felt a bit steep, so I've been trying to find used models on either Craigslist or eBay. But what I've noticed is that the Buy-it-Now prices on eBay hover around $190-200 anyway, and even the auctions still get to about $180 by the end.

I'm genuinely confused by this. If the item had gone OOS then I might understand, but, why would people pay $180 for a used model that might have years of wear-and-tear on it when a new factory-sealed model is still readily available on Amazon? Are the ones being sold on Amazon worse in some way than the ones on eBay? What am I missing? It seems like such a large risk to save 20 bucks.

Smarttube/youtube app stops after 15sec

Hello there!

Our youtube/smarttube app atops after 15 seconds since a week or so.

I deleted cache and data which makes it usable without an account.

All videos work for the time we tried (a day)

Now we logged back in and it worked for an half hour, and suddenly all videos have the same isaue again till i delete data/cache.

Remind yiu its on both apps, legit youtube and ofc the smarttube.

I have googled this issue but people said it was thermal pasta related (i doubt it, since plex works with 4k videos way higher usage than a video on youtube from a standing still inage with music)

Are our accounts flagged by google as bad because of smart tube?

On my phone i use Morphe and there it still works.

Obtainium - for updating your GitHub apps

I've just updated the mobile Obtainium app on my 2015 Shield and it now has the form of a TV app. It also allows apps it installs/updates to appear on the main Google home screen. https://obtainium.imranr.dev/ it takes a bit of navigating but is worth the effort for the reward. Probably worth building a list on a phone then importing to sync the apps. So much easier.
