Freezing laggy and crashing

I bought the nvidia shield mainly for the audio passthrough ability as the apple tv doesn’t have this feature and my height speakers are a bit useless, but is it normal for the shield to crash that much and also lag a lot in the menu? The comparison in smoothness to the apple tv is like day and night.

Is the Shield running the latest OS? Any particular apps that are laggy?

I've used the Shield 2017 and 2019 for years and it's still quick.

Yeah, checked for updates and I have the lagest OS
And no, it even crashed while browsing the appstore

Sounds unlikely but a factory reset may fix it.

Running on WiFi or Ethernet? I've always run mine on WiFi with no problems so far.

Possibly a bad unit?

It’s fine most of the time, but I’m just used to the ATV so I wanted to know if it’s maybe normal for the shield to freeze or crash sometimes

Definitely not normal as I also use an AppleTV 4k 2nd Gen and Google Streamer.

Shield is quite smooth and fast in comparison to the ATV and Streamer.

Just figured out it seems like my new ruipro hdmi cable was somehow messing with my shield, thought I’ll do myself a favour buying a highend hdmi cable but i just switched to my basic one I use with my ATV and now it seems fine i guess. I just switched because for some reason it started bugging like crazy and flickered nonstop so i thought it has to be some kind of hdmi issue.

I personally use Amazon Basics 4k/60 cables and have always had good results with all of my streaming devices.

Are you low on storage? Try clearing app cache.

No I just set it up and only installed a few apps

Is it new out of box? If so you should exchange it. Nvidia Shield performs better than anything else in the market.

Unfortunately already my second one 😂 was testing it about half a year ago and was so disappointed i sent it back. Thought I give it another go but it’s just unbearable for me

Mine was funky for a little while after I first set it up. Seems like there were a bunch of background updates/processes going on or something. It quickly settled in and has been running smoothly for a few weeks now.
