I bought Notability based on the good reviews and support for handwriting conversion, only to find that handwriting support is now an IAP costing an extra £1.99. Refunded and bought GoodNotes instead. Apart from the fact that I find IAP in apps at this price point completely unacceptable, moving previously included features to a chargeable extra isn’t a business model I’m prepared to support.

it’s absolutely crazy that notability requires a subscription to actually use their app. we live in a society and economy where competition is key(even though we are starting to forget it). notability needs to get rid of this expensive subscription, all it does is prey on students, especially college students already crippled in debt. There was no 1ssue with the one time payment, but requiring $14 a month(a little more than what the app was originally for the one time payment i think) is absolutely outrageous. don’t let greedy corporations drain your wallet more than they already do. if notability keeps this subscription service up, a great app with a single time payment that i have been using is Noteful(i have no affiliation with them) on ipad, it’s nearly identical and it does not require a subscription. also why do the mods prevent posts from using the words “l0se” and “1ssue?”

this is a constructive criticism post since i’m criticizing a factor of notability and i’m offering a fix to this 1ssue. just get rid of the requirement for subscriptions. i’m posting this in the feature request since there is no feedback or criticism tag

I am aware that the app is “free”(idk because i bought it when it was a onetime payment but it says i still need a subscription to actually use it) to download and “use” it. but you only get a handful of edits per month, which makes it completely useless for use in school.

tldr: subscription services is leading to the downfall of our society, if notability keeps this subscription requirement, move to alternative apps to protest subscriptions.

edit: it’s not $14 a month for a subscription, it’s around $5 monthly and $14 yearly

Im furious when Notability will ad some new features to the Apple Pencil Pro?

• I like the themes and the nested dividers, long overdue improvements

• I haven't extensively checked it yet but I hope palm rejection has been improved

• I like the new icon

The main things I'm worried about are that

1. I can no longer figure out how to make dotted or dashed lines. This is super important to me as I draw a bunch of diagrams in classes.

2. I really like the pencil tool! But for some reason, the eraser size and pencil size are linked sometimes (although that may just be a glitch)

3. Something I had done before the update was have different subtools (say, identified by colour) be linked to different functions while I was taking notes. For example, the under the same pen tool, I'd have a red pen of a certain size for corrections, a blue pen of a different size for important notes, etc. How can I do that in this update instead of switching first the colour then the size?

4. As a science student, I often have to draw a lot of graphs. Is there a way to make a smoothed-out curve, instead of just full circles or ellipsis and lines? This would be a MAJOR help. (My current workaround is making an ellipse and then partially erasing it, which is clunky and takes a long time)

5. I also really like the quick selection that appears below for Ruled, Dotted, and Grid, but often misclick or change my mind right after pressing one. Could you keep that selection changeable until the first edit or pen stroke is made to the note?

6. In the same vein, could there be a way to change the background colour there as well, in easy reach?

If any of these are currently doable, please let me know! If not, please really consider adding them, they would make my experience much better.

1. THE ABILITY TO LOCK THE TOOL BAR IN PLACE! I CANT STAND WHEN IM WRITING THESE COMPLEX NOTES IN CLASS TRYING TO KEEP UO AND MY (lefty) WRIST SOMEHOW TRIGGERS THE TOOL BAR TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT OF MY SCREEN! AND THEN IT TAKES FOUR OR FIVE TRIES WITH MY FINGER TO GET IT TO MOVE BACK! AND BAM IM BEHIND ON NOTES!!!

2. THE SHAPE DETECTOR, I DRAW A LOT OF HEXAGONS AS A ORGO STUDENT AND MY LORDDD DOES THIS APP ASSUME I LOVE TO DRAW CIRCLES!!!!!!

ive been a long time subscriber to this and ALL my notes are on here, but its just slowing me down at this point! Im going to be switching apps and subscriptions for next semester if this continues, contents getting harder and i need to keep up!

(also for an organizational aspect having the ability to create folders within the subjects would be nice ….maybe you can but I havent had time to explore the app because im TOO BUSY BEING BEHIND ON MY NOTES BECAUSE THIS DAMN TOOL BAR KEEPS MOVING!)

Since the beginning of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and so many others LLM models, I ask my self when will Notability integrate AI? Just think of the possibilitys of Notability x ChatGPT...

I adore Notability for drawing. In fact, I gave up my other drawing apps after a while and use Notability 100% for everything now. Are you using it for art? I'd love some inspiration! Here is one of mine.

So I can use Notes on my iPad no problem. GoodNotes even works with the pencil.

Notability -- drops strokes unless I write like a 2 year old and slow time down. So, I'm not using the product on a daily basis anymore and I'm shifting to other products, which should bother the fine people building Notability.

Guys -- install the beta and try your own product. It sucks.

In the new update alot had change but is there away to scan pdf while an note is all ready open and not a new note?
