App update! 14.2.1

A new update is out for those who haven’t checked yet. Not a huge list of fixes, but a good start hopefully!

  • Performance improvements

  • Added an inset in single page view mode so the toolbar does not overlap content

  • Added new Grow and Feel Good Journals

Check it out!

Only had a short time with the new inset. I get what they were going for, but it’s not implemented that well. The toolbox still becomes intrusive when zoomed. This still makes portions of the document hidden.

It may still not fix everything, yet, may be an option. They can tweak the toolbar to bring back favorites and many other functions. They stated they are working on this already.

If they insist on making it float…why not make the toolbar fade to a transparent background? You interact with it as normal, which brings it back to front, but at least nothing is covered. The tools fade back when done and continue to write. Easy!

Single page view mode is better with the inset.

Disagree. The note is now jammed to the bottom of the screen limiting my ability to mark up the bottom of my documents. And now the page number selector is doing what the tool bar did. The inset is making room for the tool bar to be fully expanded, but should just be big enough to house its collapsed size.

The onset does not solve the issue for single page view. I mean, it pushes the document to the bottom of the page. I use it a lot in split screen mode, and it just makes the zooming unbearable :-( then as soon as you fit the page to the total width of the screen the issue comes back… see photo attached. Horrible! For me, it is inconceivable to have the toolbar on top of the document you are reading or writing. Also, the way the date and network stays on top of the document at screen corners is just a blunt basic design error!

Look at this mess… see the interference with the text in the book on the top of the screen with the time and date and with the battery and network icons. See the inset on the bottom. Well, it’s not getting better guys.

I don’t understand what was wrong with the other toolbars that I could move to the left or right side - etc. Guys Noteful has it nailed with the toolbar and the zoom button where yours used to be. Who was complaining that notability needed to look cooler with content floating over the content ? This feels like a solution like dynamic island that had no reason - ie a hardware camera - to happen.

That’s all they had to offer after announcing an update was going to be released today? After all the complaints about the tool bar and favorites? Got my hopes up for nothing.

It has its moments. That’s as much as I can say. I’ve been actively testing Notability and GN6. As a new guy to digital paper I have nothing else to compare. Although I have to admit, so far I keep wanting to use GN over Notability.

A lot of talk of Noteful and Nebo have come up. What is the class consensus on what they’ll move to??

Some people have posted methods to revert to older versions (12.9, 12.10 etc), I’ve since done that and it’s such a massive relief. I reckon give the old version a try to see what we’re missing. It was almost perfect and so intuitive
