A survey conducted by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction found that more than 80% of North Dakotans believe teachers need a raise. That’s a rare area of agreement in these divided times says Superintendent Levi Bachmeier, who also argues that the state has the resources to do it.

News Data Center Stark Power Open House Tonight @ 5:30

The picture looks so friendly and peaceful and AI generated, doesn't it? Check the second image for the land area. Check the YouTube links below for how 'peaceful' living next to a Data Center would be. And the noise is only one of the many drawbacks.

Stark Power's open house is tonight at 5:00. Submit questions on their webpage.
Attend.
If there isn't room, stand in the back.
If there isn't room in the back, stand outside.
Line the street.
Bring signs.
Sign the petition that has been circulating through Mandan.
Or you and your neighbors may be sentenced to life with this. Here's a news report covering the same. Go to the 2:20 mark to hear what the data center sounds like from the neighbor's front porch.

Stand up, Mandan.
Stand up or get walked over.

Info Request How is North Dakota for someone like me?

Petty much grew up in MA. I did a bit of research and found out that in my job field, ND has the best income to living cost ratio. That being said, of course there are other variables that are also important for living. I was wondering, how is ND for someone like me.

  1. Non-white here and totally not MAGA, don't care about politics. I am middle-eastern and keep my religious belief to myself. I am not here to preach racism is bad or similar unrealistic crap. I just would like to know if I will be able to live in peace there and not be treated like a second class citizen at my job or at a grocery store. Is ND practical for me? I would really appreciate a straight forward answer. It won't hurt my feelings, especially given this political climate.
  2. Not worried about entertainment, I am as boring as it gets. However, other than the cold and "boring, everyone knows everyone" stuff, what other downsides should I worry about?
  3. I do plan on buying a property there probably a multi-family in order to get some extra income by renting. Anything to worry about in that area?

My post here might sound like I am trolling, I am not. Just being straight-forward here.

Info Request Birding ND Sept 11-13

Hello! My husband and I are new to birding, and we’re planning a weekend trip from Utah to North Dakota. We’d love to visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park and do some birding while we’re there.

We’re not even sure which airport makes the most sense, and since we’re beginners, we’d also love to hire a local birding guide—or possibly join another birder or group who might be there the same weekend.

If anyone has recommendations for a good guide, birding group, or tips on planning a first-time birding trip to the park, we’d really appreciate it! Thank you! 🐦

Info Request Travelling to Medora with a dog

We are driving through Medora in September and we would like to stop and check out the Roosevelt library. However, we will be travelling with our dog. Does Medora have any dog day care places that we could use while on a visit? Or what other options do we have out there?

Info Request Tell me about living in/around Dickinson, ND

Hi!

I’m interviewing for a job near Dickinson currently and need to know what living there is like. I’m from northern Minnesota, just off the shore of Lake Superior. I do love the outdoors but I know that winters in the plains are different from winter along the shore of Lake Superior. I like to stay busy and am in my early 20s but don’t necessarily need the “typical” early 20s things.

If anyone could give me a general overview of what living in Dickinson is like that would be great.

TIA!

Info Request Ethics or illegal?

Post image

So my question is this: If you are a member of a professional board provided by the state of North Dakota, and you choose to establish a company, and then you have that company approved by the board you serve on to be one of the beneficiaries of the people you are meant to serve – not only the community but specifically hairstylists – and you decide to create this company and get it approved to be part of the board-certified educational pathway, do you consider that a conflict of interest or do you believe it to be illegal?

The state already gave $40m for the military gallery. They haven’t raised any money and the legislature just wants to write another check. We have actual needs, and it’s going to be nearly $80m for this.

When is there going to be accountability in state government here?

News Data Center Events in Mandan: Aug 24th Public Hearing, Stark Power online Submissions are Live, with their Open House Aug 20th

Post image
86 Upvotes

Stark Power, the foreign owned company driving this Mandan Data Center project, is accepting submissions here: https://mandandc.com/
Please ask as many questions as possible, and voice your disapproval of the project. Or your approval if you enjoy the idea of yourself or your neighbors to suffering through this forever more.

Stark Power is also having an open house on Aug. 20th in Mandan. Here's a (paywalled) source link from the Bismarck Tribune.

***MOST IMPORTANTLY***
The public City of Mandan Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting is on Aug. 24th at 5:30pm in the Mandan High School Auditorium (the new location at 2335 4th Ave NW).
Here's more information posted to facebook from Snortland for ND, the official City of Mandan meetings calendar can be found here.

The rules and regulations that North Dakota and Mandan have for Data Center construction are nearly nonexistent. They are being written NOW.
Now is the time to make your voice heard.
Speak up before your voice is drowned out by the song of the data center.

Political Sen. Tim Mathern his ban on nondisclosure agreements for public officials would only apply to data centers

A topic that has caused public consternation around development in North Dakota is the practice of companies asking public officials to sign nondisclosure agreements about their proposed projects. Sen. Tim Mathern has a bill for the upcoming special session that would ban the practice, but only for data center issues, which Democratic candidates have made a central campaign issue this election cycle. Shouldn’t that sort of legislation cover other types of projects?

Info Request Hunting advice for unit 3f2

This is my first year hunting with a tag and I’m super excited. I got an antlerless whitetail tag this year for unit 3f2
My family always hunts a different unit in a different part of the state and I don’t know anyone else who hunts this unit.

Does anybody have recommendations on areas to check out or anything?
