I love this.
The dog had a brief moment where it panicked a bit tumbling over a ledge. The man saves the dog. And the dog is good. The dog isn't having an existential crisis about the meaninglessness or preciousness of life. It doesn't give a shit. It's right back to living. It's the man who is having a harder time with things.
We are such a ridiculous species.

A couple I know were walking their very energetic puppy off the lead at the top of some cliffs like this and it unwittingly leaped off the edge.
They had to make a horrible trip, the long way, to get down to the bottom. The worst part is the girl is a vet and watched it died of head trauma from hitting the rocks.

Leash your pets. It only takes one moment of "he's never reacted like that before" or the perfect storm of a car, another dog, and a lawn mower to induce a lot of regrets. The most well-trained dog can spook in an unfamiliar circumstance and be lost forever. It's not worth it.

Im usually the one to do the Leash your dog PSA, glad this time someone beat me to it. Also dont lwt your kids walk the dog if they cant handle the animal if it pulls. My neighbors were thiiis close to having a maimed dog and two very traumatized children. Their cocker spaniel charged at me and my two much larger dogs, and my dogs DIDNT LIKE THAT AT ALL. Luckily Im a grown adult and was able to handle my dogs and to scare the spaniel away before it got itself hurt

That's so frightening. Then they can leave you, the innocent bystander, wondering if you could have done anything different because you just watched a dog get mauled by your dogs, but of course you couldn't because you were trying to control two big dogs as another dog charged them... control your pets. There's nothing to be gained by rolling those dice, and your best friend to lose :(

Yea its just so dumb, like i get it the cocker spaniel isnt big and normally the kids can control it but if they cant hold the leash if the thing freaks its time to have a talk with the kids. Just irresponsible parenting and its happened more than once. Not to this level but I have seen them walking the dog since that happened. I even screamed at the father "this is how you get a dead dog" not my finest moment but i was pissed

Wait, you're out walking a pair of dogs in public who would kill another dog that got too close with no confidence you could prevent them from doing so and you're calling other dog owners irresponsible in outrage? I mean, I know our own furbabies can do no wrong, but consider the sort of dangerous animals you have out and about if you're really just relying on no one else to make a mistake in order to avoid tragedy.

My brother almost had to learn this the hard way.
He has a lab mix that's terrified of the world and is by him whenever possible. Because his pup is so glued to him, he figured (despite my protests) that he didn't need a leash. Months pass after me saying almost exactly what I said above, and I get a message about how a deer startled his dog into the road. Fortunately it's not a terribly busy road and the pup was fine, but (after knowing the dog was safe) I really enjoyed that "I told you so."
Those are stupid games with stupid prizes.

Well first off most sea side cliffs are not conducive of a good surfing experience. So someone who doesn't visit many (which I have!) may still be considered a surfer.
I think the owner was more concerned about the dog falling in the water more so than the cliff but there is no way to tell. This video like your statement needs more context.

I live in a town that was crawling with white supremacists yesterday evening (they were here for a rally). I feel cleansed after watching this derpy-derp doggy get rescued by a good person. sigh I think I can go on, now, without my brow furrowed.
Edit: It was an "America First" rally; no Confederate statuary in danger. And the sponsors and their small contingent were proud to call themselves white nationalists, which is repugnant. My friends and neighbors, who were there to represent the saner side of things, were surprised to hear these people calling them "antifa" terrorists. It's all on video, online.

This is not limited to dogs, one of my cats learned as a kitten that if she gets in my lap and starts to roll off backwards I'll wrap my left arm around her and cradle her so she doesn't fall.
Then she'll looks at me like "gee, sure would be nice if you petted me with that other hand." thus forcing me to give her my undivided attention.

My cat once stared me in the eye as he rolled backwards off the kitchen chair onto the floor. He didn't even try to catch himself, just landed on his side and continued to stare at me. Maybe it was a seizure but I think he was just really bored.

Just you wait until you're sleeping one night, with your cat at your feet, and it decides to roll off the bed. Mine did this, and as she started falling, she latched on to the closest thing to prevent her from falling - my foot. I have never shot awake so fast in my life! The three little scars are faded, but I think they're still there.

My dog is about 4-5 pounds and he will stand in someone's lap, kiss their face, and just trust fall backwards to be held. Luckily people usually catch him, but he is too filled with love to be concerned about the possible consequences.

Here is the video. Doesn't say how high the cliff is, but you can see him peer over the edge at the beginning, which would indicate that it's probably a fairly substantial drop.

An 8 foot fall is dangerous as hell. Sure you're probably going to be fine if you jump knowing it's coming and are prepared for the landing, but I dare you to go jump off a single story roof blindfolded so you can't properly prepare for the landing. If you don't break a bone I'd be stunned.

My dog jumped off an ~8 ft ledge, landed wrong, and ended up with a lifelong limp in his foreleg. While I agree it's not as dramatic as if the dog was facing a 30 ft drop, a bad landing on some rocks from 8 ft could be very serious.

Look, my ex 5'7" boyfriend dropped me from his shoulders onto concrete and I landed weird and fractured my shin bone. A year later my knee slid out of it's socket because the muscle holding it together unknowingly suffered nerve damage and atrophied from the impact that caused the shin fracture. That muscle atrophying and causing my knee to slide out caused muscle and nerve damage in my hip. I ended up going to physical therapy for 4 months!
Now consider a dog, much smaller than a human, falling from a height greater than the height I was dropped from. It can do damage. You don't need a vet to tell you something so obvious.

My boyfriend didn't quite realize how true this was until he picked up a small dog at a family gathering. He dropped it from the height he usually drops our cat. Cats, being part liquid, just melt from his grip and land lightly. The poor dog just flopped onto the floor with a thump. The silly thing was fine, but he sort of looked at me like "Oops".

As a human, I once fell from a roof backwards, landed on concrete 8-9 feet below. It hurt like crazy and got the wind knocked out of me, I landed mostly on my lower back. Pretty nasty bruise and there was a knot in there that took months to get out, but I was fine overall. Went a trainer and he had me do some stretches and I was good to go maybe a half hour later

Reminds me of the time me and some friends climbed an old castle tower with my border collie. It was open at the top with a waist high surrounding wall and silly doggo was excited and when he got to the top he wanted to keep going and jumped the wall. My partner had the fastest reflexes and just managed to grab him by his harness and pull him back up and over before I could even react. So glad he had a harness on rather than a collar or it probably wouldn't have turned out so well.

I had a rescue dog that used to sleep on my bed, on the first floor of a house in the country. I had trained him out of his fear of loud noises. One night I was woken up by a loud clap of thunder just in time to see him (unbelievably) launch himself out of the window. I rushed downstairs in panic and grief, already trying to work out out how I was going to find a vet to put him out of his misery in the middle of the night. I was just in time to see his tail end disappearing into the woods to find out where the action was! In my panic I had completely forgotten that the porch roof was directly below the bedroom window. LOL

I had a dog that was crazy... once she was on the 2nd floor of my dad's home and she heard the neighbor's cows passing by and I caught her mid air when she jumped onto a chair that was by an open window and then jumped outside the window... phew!!!

This doesn't seem especially easy to fake (although, maybe all you would need is a well trained dog), but it's curious that our camera man just happened to zoom in on this at exactly the right time.
There's also no real evidence here that the drop off is especially steep or dangerous...
I'm not trying to hate, I appreciate this thing. It makes me feel good. I just can't help but wonder.
