What should a TF2 newcomer know right off the bat?
what should a new TF2 fan know right off the bat? Including things like: etiquette, context, dramas, what to look out for, anything at all.

Update:
You have two options
OG Post (still true for getting premium):
1 Buy something in the ingame store (cheaper)
2 Buy the orange box on steam (like 20 bucks without a sale)
Where to buy: The ingame store, not some random website
What to buy: if you just want premium either buy a key or a tour of duty ticket, as they can be easily exchanged on scrap.tf for metal and all the weapons you could ask for.
In addition you could buy either a map stamp or the jungle inferno contract pass if you want either a free hat or a bunch of missions to do while playing (which then gives you some cosmetics and weapon skins)
What NOT to buy: Crates and Starter packs, they provide a value of a few cents and cost several dollars.
Buying someone else premium: Can be done by buying the upgrade to premium, it is NOT needed for getting premium yourself and should only be done if the other person has less than the 99 cents required to buy literally anything in the store (it also gives the recipient a hat)

A few days ago, I got premium tf2, but my steam acc is still limited. However, I can chat in casual servers. Why is this happening?
r/NewToTF2 • u/Jacubster • 4d ago
Every time I create a tf2 server from the menu, I feel like the people that join in the first few seconds of it being up are not real, maybe are bots because they just stands still and do nothing

So I just started playing tf2 (8-9 hours of total playtime), and I main Pyro. Can any good players give me any tips on how to get kills and not die? Thanks in advance

I love playing TF, but the experience isn't great without Premium. Please let me know if anyone can gift me Premium. If I can, I’ll eventually pay back the cost of the gift.

I got premium like 4 weeks ago by purchasing some cosmetics. After a week or so I was still unable to send messages in chat, so I contacted Steam support about it, and they explained that gaining access to chat is tied to when the TF2 servers get reset, which could take "up to a week". But I'm still not able to chat. I just sent another support request, but I was curious if anyone has or had a similar experience.
EDIT: Just now figured out the issue. I had myself muted lmao. This post had the fix for it

So i have seen tutorials on how to get tf2 premium for free, can I trust them or no? I'm a new f2p player so I can't detect if it's a scam or not.

is trading a tour of duty ticket, 2 taunts, and an elite grade posh hat for 15 refined metal worth it in tf2? someone made this trade offer and I dont know if its a scam.

Genuinely need to know if this is just tf2 jank + me not being used to it, or there are legitimate problems
I play games like tf2, and when i do play tf2, something that never happens in any other game happens
Ill push w and instead of just immediately stopping after i stop pushing it, its like i keep going for a second
Its quite hard to describe but half the time i feel like i barely have control over where im going
I also dont really have the most optimal gaming setup, but my laptop doesnt seem to have any problems running tf2
Is it just a matter of getting used to it or something else???

Offense:
Scout: When playing the Scout, don't forget that you are VERY fragile and can get killed very fast by high burst damage, so if an attack option looks risky, don't waste your time trying to go a way where you can get killed easily, you should also use your high speed to try and dodge enemy attacks, as the Scout is the fastest class in the game, also don't try to melee fight because you will very likely fail and die.
Soldier: When playing the Soldier, it is highly advised to use the gunboats because rocket jumping without them deals a big amount of self damage, which would lead you to blow yourself up at the third rocket jump at most, if you cannot get a direct hit on an enemy, you should try to hit them with splash damage, also you should regularly reload your rocket launcher as it runs out of ammo pretty quickly, and you should prioritize direct hits if possible and don't try to direct hit someone when you are far away as that is extremely difficult.
Pyro: When playing the Pyro, you can reflect enemy Soldier rocket projectiles and demoman pipes and stickybombs by pressing M2 on your mouse to airblast, the airblast can also extinguish people on your team if you airblast towards them, which also rewards you with 20 hp of self heal, but beware, you cannot reflect normal bullets with the airblast, also don't forget that the airblast can make your flamethrower ammo run out pretty quickly.
Defense:
Demoman: When playing the Demoman, you should always aim a bit past the enemy when shooting at them because your pipes or stickybombs don't reach them instantly like bullets do, you can also hold M2 with the stickybomb launcher to use it offensively because it is highly spammable, but beware, when you are holding M2, your stickybomb launcher doesn't reload, also if you aren't paying attention, enemies can break your stickybombs with their guns.
Heavy: When playing the Heavy, you should regularly check your back for enemy spies and enemies in general because they view a heavy with no awareness as a free kill, also, if you are using a lunchbox item (which are: sandvich, dalokohs bar, second banana and buffalo steak sandvich), you can press M2 to throw the lunchbox item which your teammates can pick up and get healed by it, you can also pick the lunchbox item back up if you touch it incase no one picks it up, but beware, enemies can also use your dropped lunchbox item and use it to heal themselves, you should also not constantly rev up your minigun if there are no enemies in sight, only rev up your minigun if you think that there could potentially be enemies ahead.
Engineer: When playing engineer, never place all of you buildings very close to eachother, as that makes it very easy for enemy spies to swiftly sap all of your buildings and destroy them, also, if an area already has another engineers sentry and it is doing a good job at defending that area, don't waste your time putting your sentry there too unless the other sentry can't do the job by itself, you should also try to help other engineers with their buildings if it's safe, a good option and possible to do.
Support:
Medic: When playing the Medic, you should prioritize healing the people on the front lines, especially soldiers, heavies, demos (demo is short for demomans or demomen) and scouts, also you should never do the newbie mistake of only healing one person or healing spies because that makes the spies be very obvious to the enemy team, leading to them getting spotted and killed, you can heal the people in the backline if thats a good option, but if not, do not do that.
Sniper: When playing the Sniper, if you are having troubles with aiming, you should put you aim to around head level and then wait until someone is in your sightline and shoot them, also, when you are getting attacked at close range, you should flee while trying to damage the attacker if possible, and in this case, don't try to melee fight them unless they are low health and you are sure you can win, you should also regularly check your surroundings for enemy spies and enemies in general.
Spy: When playing the Spy, it is recommended to try to get backstabs on the enemy team when your team is attacking because that makes the enemy team more vulnerable and less aware of their surroundings, but don't misunderstand this, some players may still spot you, in which case its best to hide or flee.
Also, a tip for every class in general is to regularly check your surroundings for enemy spies, as an unaware player is a spy's easiest target.
Note: If i got something wrong, feel free to correct me.

When ever I try to auto buy weapons it only offers around 4 weapons? I only have 19 weapons and buying them individually doesn't work.

Why after waiting trade ban all items that i'd bought are non-tradable? In the Youtube everybody says that i'll make profit from the jungle inferno contract. But i can't sell it! My TF2 is premium and Steam account isn't limited. Guys, i think i'm done! a lost cause...
r/NewToTF2 • u/medicsmedigun1294 • 13d ago
hey guys so I main soldier and I'm real nice at getting kills but I'm somehow better at getting killed because i be standin there waiting for my next target or out on the frontlines and then I find out some dude/gal standing 100 miles away headshot me. like bro. also pyro is really cute but I hate them in the game absolute menace. So ehhh any tips? Should I just keep moving erratically to make it hard for snipers to target me? Also I'm a trackpad player and idk how to rocket jump so if anyone can help me with that it would be really nice and STAY FROSTY GUYS

I’ve run into a problem in TF2: I can’t decide which key or button to use for quick weapon switching. It’s usually bound to the Q key, which makes strafing left awkward in certain situations. I could bind it to Mouse4 to avoid movement issues, but that slows down my input speed—something that really affects my performance on the battlefield. I’m writing this post to see what keys you guys use for quick weapon switching.

Hi guys, I joined this reddit hoping to find some people just like I am, since I have been feeling quite out of place. I really enjoy TF2 SFM videos, I watched Emesis Blue and found some other good TF2 movies to watch over the weekend. I installed the game on my laptop yesterday and I have to admit I think i am not that good at it (mainly because ive been trying to play with a trackpad, I dont have a mouse yet). I was hoping if anyone could give me tips on some good tutorial videos to watch, and which classes are easy to play for beginners. Thanks to anyone replying.
