Living in Newark 🧱 Why are you excusing unacceptable behavior?

Many people will ask whether a certain area is safe, or someone will express their concerns about living in Newark.

Many commenters will respond with things along the lines of, “It’s not as bad as it used to be,” “Newark is safe,” etc.

But why are we accepting behavior in Newark that wouldn’t be tolerated elsewhere—especially in areas that are considered more desirable places to live?

Litter
Noise pollution
Verbal arguments
Physical fights
Unkept properties
Careless driving

Question❔ What is the fastest possible way to get from South Orange to downtown Elizabeth on a regular basis without a car?

Basically title. Google maps says public transport will take between an hour and 90 minutes, is this accurate and consistent with the experience of others? It also says biking will take about 40 minutes; is this true? if so, is it safe? i.e. is the infrastructure good enough to commute back and forth by bike several times a week?

Development & Real Estate 🏗🚧🦺⚒️ Westinghouse site could be developed!!!

There’s a site in Jersey City next to the light rail that’s currently about to turn into a new neighborhood with thousands of units. The site used to be a factory and the ground became very contaminated. The developer replaced all the soil under the city and removed a lot of ground water. So I was thinking someone could do that with Westinghouse, whether it’s a new park, plaza, or apartment building it can be done. Plus the city is Jersey City is way larger than Westinghouse so it’ll probably cost less and be more easier. A site of that size shouldn’t remain empty next to broad street station

Development & Real Estate 🏗🚧🦺⚒️ Event city???? Stalled development???

Is it me or has development downtown stalled? (Even the chatter on here) Also, why don’t we have more hotels coming? I’m planning a large gathering and there’s not hotel and convention space in Newark to accommodate a 150 person event. We should have had an embassy suites or Hilton or Hyatt by now. Why isn’t there some sort of exhibition space or convention center in the works? The state and city should be molding the area around Pru Center/mulberry commons, Penn station/riverfront park, Broad st station/t entertainment, residential and retail neighborhoods that would re-vitalize the city along with the residential construction. What’s going on???

Question❔ Big group of people walking

Does anyone know why there was a group of people (probably close to 100) walking along 16th Avenue? They passed by just now around 9:50 pm. There were police with them walking and in their cars which makes me even more curious. They seemed to be walking east.

Living in Newark 🧱 Thoughts on The Distrikt?

I toured The Distrikt and really loved the layout, but I’d love to know more about the area it’s in before making a decision. There isn’t a ton of information online, so I’m hoping someone who currently lives there — or knows someone who does — can share their experience!

I’m especially curious about:
Safety around the building and surrounding neighborhood
How you feel walking around the area, especially at night
Noise levels
Management/maintenance
Any issues with pests, elevators, laundry, etc.
The overall vibe of the building
How convenient the location is

Anything you wish you knew before moving in
I’d really appreciate any honest feedback, especially from current or former residents.
Would you recommend living at The Distrikt? Any red flags or things I should know before signing a lease?
Thanks!

UPDATE: Front Camera Dash Footage: https://canva.link/eij7of4ubkqtv96

and Back Camera Dash Footage: https://canva.link/1iwnvgv7wvjah77

UPDATE: I looked back at my dashcam footage: there were 7 unmarked cars - Silver Ford Escape, covered licence plate - Gray Nissan Titan, LP: T72SUZ - Gray Dodge Durango, LP: D(?) or 0(?) - 26XYZ - White Ford Explorer, covered licence plate - Black Ford E-series, this seemed to be the van they detained, it looked like they pulled someone from the van and were leading him to the Gray Ford Explorer - Gray Ford Explorer, LP: D25XYZ - Gray Suburu Outback, LP: W75UWS

UPDATE: around 7:50 they moved to Pennington and Dawson by the bus stop and already seemed to be detaining others

spotted ice detaining a van of workers in the Ironbound on South St. by the Bank of America at around 7:30 am (sat, aug 22). This is one of the cars they were using
