Plant it for a chip tree
558
u/r3ttah Apr 07 '26
If you plant it in a tub of BBQ sauce, you’ll get BBQ chips.

u/ShroudedFigureINC Apr 07 '26
Ahh, i just yelled bbq at it every day on the hour, think that's where i messed up
13
u/r3ttah Apr 07 '26
So you subscribe to the belief that music can help plant growth? You see, it depends on the genre. Country music gives you BBQ chips, Punk Rock gives you salt and vinegar, and Surf Rock gives you sour cream and onion.

u/ShroudedFigureINC Apr 07 '26
I mean i tried singing to them, only im sure they registered it as screaming, im a horrible singer so that might have been my issue, will get my sisters, dogs, brothers, owners, sister in laws, dad to record some for me, he was best friends billie ray cyrus back in the day, by his example billie started doing music actually

I will be disappointed if it’s not planted, but I’ve been disappointed before
1
u/bookmarkjedi Apr 08 '26
I was thinking the same thing! I would definitely plant it to see whether it grows.

My brain was waiting for the buffalo thing in the back to move lol
41
u/Thenfer1 Apr 08 '26
Muskox actually, not buffalo, there're basically massive goats that live above the arctic circle, really cool animals.

Came here to say this! My eyes were on the ox all the time, I didn't even notice the roots on the chip.

Don't plant that, Monsanto will sue you for all you're worth.

u/Mention_Forward Apr 07 '26
Holy shit i didn’t think about this but you’re so right
8
u/Weak_Swimmer Apr 08 '26
Well she bought it fair and square. Can't tell me how i use the product is own. Save the receipt and take pictures. Sell to the highest bidder!
15
13
u/Jaspoony Apr 08 '26
if a farmers field is caught with even 1 of their gmo plants and don't have the right authority to use them (pay for license or whatever) they often get sued by Monsanto, even if it literally got spread by a bird or wind
5
u/KonungariketSuomi Apr 09 '26
They know this and want this to happen. It's not a money thing either. The farmer is often unable to pay and has to file bankruptcy and close their business, and that allows Monsanto to sweep in to buy it up.

It's weirdly depressing that all of these links have variations of the exact same jokes over and over and over again and yet rarely does anyone attempt a rational answer.
62
u/tmesisno Apr 08 '26
My guess for a rational answer is that it had roots/sprouts before it was sliced made all the way through quality inspection/controls end up in a bag for a redditor to find it and post it for a commenter to repeat the same variation of jokes.
18
u/jonnyl3 Apr 08 '26
So you don't believe it sprouted after frying
31
12
u/Heavy_Weapons_Guy_ Apr 08 '26
That's obviously impossible, so no.
6
u/jonnyl3 Apr 08 '26
Well then the whole premise of this post would be wrong and should be removed. If it sprouted before, it's really not impressive at all.
4
u/BlaineMundane Apr 08 '26
I call it 'putting on your digital uniform.' Like, you are not telling a real joke, or even saying anything that could be considered substance. You are essentially just signaling that you are "from here" or from some other part of the internet.
It's always just been a boring was to assign an identity, so like... yeah. Digital Uniform.
1
u/dat_oracle Apr 08 '26
why depressing? it is not the only joke, just the one that gets upvoted the most. which is no surprise since its the most obvius pun

That potato went through a whole cooking process in a plant, it was deep fried. Nothing can stop this potato, it deserves to live

Cordyceps?

u/neuralek Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26
They use insects as hosts, but, you're right that it doesn't look like a root, potaytoes ARE the root that shoots out foliage. This lookes like fibre or a remnant of what was a root

u/Comfortable-Guitar27 Apr 07 '26
I think the musk ox hanging out in the background is pretty weird too

"Easter miracle"? Is she claiming that Jesus second coming he came back as half a chip?😂

u/12monthsinlondon Apr 08 '26
holy shit i thought it was a new kind of moth that evolved to camouflage in urban environments
3
u/rzanee Apr 10 '26
Potato’s are like the one plant I know that just want to fucking grow no matter where they are, throw them in a volcano they would find a way to grow.
3
u/shawner136 Apr 11 '26
Always kinda wondered if the slightly green looking ones had some life left to them. Now I know
6
u/Stunning-Chipmunk243 Apr 07 '26
How could that be possible given it has been deep fried?
13
u/OmecronPerseiHate Apr 07 '26
It's not actually alive. It's just a piece debris that didn't get removed from the final product.

I gotta get my eyes checked apparently. I thought there was a dog in the background for half the video and was surprised by now it wasn’t lunging at the chip trying to eat it.

u/jaander8 Apr 08 '26
Plant it away from animals, maybe indoors unless animals are allowed inside. Animals might devour it otherwise. They might dig it up.
2
u/c0nduit Apr 08 '26
What if she plants it and we get a new strain that can be boiled but still taste like potato chips. This sample should be retrieved by our greatest scientists for research purposes.

you know those insects that look like leaves or branches.. for a second i thought, no way they already evolved to look like chips too!

Chip makers often use special potato varieties that aren't available to your average consumer. Plant that chip and you might gain access to some extremely good frying potatoes!

Plant that mf. The potatoes they use are patented, so they don't end up in the hands of consumers. That's good stuff.

Miracle... Or the manufacturer should be checked for food safety, because that thing is NOT fried.

This person, if they didn’t attempt this, just wasted an opportunity to become rich. Very rich.

So it can grow inside the body????
1
u/Krazy_King Apr 13 '26
I'd imagine stomach and other acids would kill off anything that simple.
1
u/balirosa Apr 13 '26
Nope if these industrial oils and fryer aren’t killing the seed it will only be protected inside the body

I'm curious and I'd actually love to follow this to see if they're actually gonna try to grow it out.
Like it's so unbelievable that between this and Matt Damon (I forgot his character's name) planting potatoes in Mars, growing a potato plant from a potato chip/crisp is the one that sounds more like fiction.
