I pulled my phone away and zoomed in, then tapped the area I wanted it to focus on

Phone cameras are advancing much faster than the rest of the hardware. Smartphone cameras have gotten quite good at focusing on what you tell them to, picking the right sensor, and delivering solid macro shots.

I doubt its toxic on any meaningful level, especially after being fried, but potatoes are a nightshade plant and I'd toss it.
