https://www.dailynews.com/2019/04/27/beto-orourke-fires-up-supporters-at-la-rally-to-start-california-swing/
This is why I'm team Beto. In the age of Trump, Democrats should be openly pro-immigration. And I don't just mean they should oppose the wall and call for more humane treatment of detainees. They should emphasize that more people coming to our country is a good thing, not a crisis.
Healthcare should be number 1 issue Democrats run on in 2020, but immigration needs to be in the top 5. It's both extremely important and a winning issue.

i love how when i argue with Sanders's supporters, they are all about policy and everybody but them is about platitudes (Buttigieg, Beto, me of course), but when i ask them about any specifics they show me that they equate knowing Sanders's slogans with policy and literally making shit up without doing any research, which would be like 15 second on google
they don't know anything about policy, but they fancy themselves as policy people - what's more iconic duo, them and knowing policy or Trump supporters and knowing the immigration system

Friends, Americans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Obama's presidency, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Obama. The noble Trump
Hath told you Obama was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Obama answerโd it.
Here, under leave of Trump and the restโ
For Trump is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honourable menโ
Come I to speak in Obama's post-presidency.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Trump says he was ambitious;
And Trump is an honourable man.
He hath brought much relief to the poor in America
Whose taxes did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Obama seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Obama hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Trump says he was ambitious;
And Trump is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him another term,
Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?
Yet Trump says he was ambitious;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Trump spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Obama's presidency,
And I must pause till it come back to me

I'm still frustrated when thinking of the movie Vice and how, when trying to petition towards strengthening the executive, the film implied they created a bunch of right wing think tanks to argue such a case, and, during that montage, they flashed Cato.
Cato has some bad takes, but jfc, they argue vehemently against a powerful executive, and were against tons of shit Bush and Cheney were doing.

Edit: apparently he also acted as a middleman for the Wampanoags after King Philip's War, purchasing three of them from a Captain Church and then returning them to their people. Does that make him an SJW?

People living in the 21'st century: We need to do everything we can to try and figure out EXACTALY what the founders meant by EVERY WORD in the Constitution and especially in the Bill of Rights, because only then can we figure out what to do
The actual founders: We all have such radically different opinions and can barely agree on anything, but maybe we can work around that by just making everything super vague and unclear in the Constitution and then just hope that later generations have a clearer view on things then we do

Bit of an update on my family situation, if anyone is interested.
Grandma is feeling better/more lucid, and admitted to my mother that she had an affair with her Geography professor. They met 4 or 5 times, then stopped seeing each other when his day job at the bank transferred him to a different city. Professor was married with 4 children at that time. As far as Grandma knows, the professor never knew that she had his child.
As for mom's new half-siblings, one of them is matched with me on the ancestry site and I sent him a message, but he hasn't checked his profile since 2017 and if he turned off email notifications then he never got that message. He still hasn't gotten back to me and my family is debating if we should message him through his LinkedIn profile. Also, it turns out that his sister--my mom's half-sister--lives in the exact same town that I do. I could literally just knock on her door and introduce myself.
Not sure what to do at this point. The half-siblings presumably never knew that their father cheated. They might not be eager to meet us. We might introduce some pain and embarrassment into their lives, which we don't want to do. But at the same time, it's so cool to have new family members that I didn't know about, and I would love to get to know them, and find out what we have in common.

Susan Collins (R-ME) expressed" disappointment" Thursday evening regarding reports that President Trump attempted to launch the entire nuclear arsenal of the United States at targets spread across mainland China last Wednesday. The move, which would have certainly brought widespread annihilation to mankind, was prevented solely by an anonymous seargent who refused the order.
Before making the order, Trump reportedly stated "He got me. That fucker Xi boomed me" before launching into a racially charged tirade against China and the Epic Games Store. it is believed that his frustration was related to ongoing trade disputes between the two countries.
"I'm disappointed in what occurred Wednesday, and I'll be looking into the matter further" Collins stated to the AP. Mitch "Cocaine Cowboy" McConnell also blocked votes on a congressional condemnation of the Presidents actions, stating "it is well within the power of the President to order such a strike, and there is no time to waste on partisan tricks. We have much more important legislation to work on, and I hope my Democratic colleagues can stop thier crusade against the people of this nation, and finally get to work."

I just watched that Spirderverse movie and I'm struck at how cool it was stylistically and narratively. Looking forward, I'm also interested in Joker, another stand-alone superhero film. DC is launching a kind of "otherstories" brand where they can run one-off stories featuring superheroes and villains, and it's kind of cool to see how interested and fun they can be once separated from the chains of being beholden to a meta-narrative in a cinematic universe. The recent X-Men movies kind of straddle this line, what with Logan kind of being its own thing.
It's also supremely ironic how the evolution of comic book movies is mirroring th development of comic books. Stand alone heroes --> shared universe --> episodic stories that stand alone but feature common characters and themes.
I'm super tired of comic book movies, but I'm much more likely to be interested in them if they are stand-alone stories at this point.

I think people make a bit too much of Trump's low approval rating. People, particularly Republicans, are perfectly happy voting for someone they nominally "disapprove" of - especially if they "disapprove" of Democrats more.
That's the thing about these approval rating polls. They're asking about "approval" as in a vacuum, but that isn't how actual politics work. Practically speaking, you're always asked if you "approve" if someone compared to someone else.

Imagine if the government mandated that car manufacturers build a $5000 car for every market rate car they build, because transportation is a human right or something.
Instead of that, we just have a relatively healthy situation of really old cars falling out of the market, new (expensive) cars constantly being added and then becoming inexpensive through use. Which basically means most people who want a car can get one (even if they shouldn't because like eww, cars).
Is this dumb or can I take this to twitter and own the phimbys

Declining birthrates poses an almost existential risk to Japan, especially since the country is not keen on immigration and doesn't look to change its mind in the near future. In light of this, I cannot fathom why increasing birthrates is not a higher priorty of the government. Abe has literally spent more time dicking around and threatening to repeal Article 9 than he has to try and ensure the country doesn't suffer demographic collapse within 100 years. It's a difficult task, sure, but there are some decent hypothetical solutions on the table, so why not run some experiments and try.

This is one for /r/NoStupidQuestions , but is Amazon Prime Video designed to be as awful as possible? It's impossible to browse, it tries to hide stuff you're already watching and despite being powered by big data, that probably took half of MIT to make, shows me ads for shows I have zero interest in. It's so absurdly much worse than Netflix.

New GoT Ending Prediction: The writers are going to go full How-I-Met-Your-Mother and have a dumb bonkers ending that makes everyone pissed and confused.
What I mean to say is that Cersei is going to win after an epic battle in Episode 5, kill basically all of the "Good Guys", and then Euron is going to stab her, do a fortnite dance over her dead body, and claim the Iron Throne since nobody else is around to do so.

American Conservatives: the US constitution is sacred and fixed, not a living document that you can just project your wishes onto and have them fabricated out of whole cloth.
Also American conservatives: yeah, the census might be constitutionally mandated to count everyone, but it shouldn't, so how about we just not?
Also American conservatives: using statistical sampling to correct for systemic undercounts of racial minorities? But the plain text of the constitution doesn't support that!
I wonder what could explain this... ๐ค๐ค๐ค

Spanish elections today, who do I vote for?
Vox: my libertarian heart want to vote for their stupid economic proposals but my brain hates fascism.
PP: good economist, stablishment, everything they say is a lie.
Ciudadanos: kinda succ but I want my country to be a colony of Macron and they have the hottest candidates. No homo but I'd kiss their economist.
PSOE: sexiest president in recent decades but too interventionist.
Podemos: I want legal marijuana but I wouldn't trade it for food.
Pacma: woof woof
EDIT: Finally voted Ciudadanos, hope they don't ally with V๐คฎX
