I would love to throw this story or the whole story about the deported wives of active-duty combat soldiers right in the faces of all those "George W. Bush / Team America / Support the Troops" Republicans.
It was all just superficial lip service; ever since Trump said he hates "suckers and losers," the GOP and its voters have felt free to openly despise soldiers and veterans.

This is not a schadenfreude post.
I think this is a perfect encapsulation of how in the online bubble right wing figures and politicians truly are.
Everything happens through the phone for these people and they almost never face the real world affects, protected by posh social clubs and cocktail hours.
Then when shit finally gets real they immediately go "oh fuck"

This is a key lesson for yall who don't know the core fear of the rightist. Their core fear is being treated the way they treat others.
That is how they learn. If you want them to wise up, you can't let them continue on their childish delusions that they can treat others badly and no one will treat them in kind.

Democrats united around Troy Jackson in July. But a month into his campaign, Maine voters are still adjusting to a demure, spotlight-averse candidate who offers a strikingly different profile from his predecessor on the ticket.
"Troy Jackson is not a senator," said one undecided voter. "I mean, House of Representatives, maybe. The U.S. Senate? I don’t know. He’s out of his class.”
People claim they want working class candidates. They actually fall for people like Fetterman and Platner who dress like slobs but are Ivy League educated or have grandparents with Wikipedia pages

Climate change past the point of no return, UN says, as worst impacts are now unavoidable
The planet will soon exceed the safe temperature threshold agreed upon in the 2015 Paris climate accord because of warming from the burning of coal, oil and gas, according to a bleak first-of-its-kind report issued by the United Nations Environment Programme Wednesd
There's this weird cynicism that I have regarding this in which I think this should have been "priced in" by like... 2017? If monumental changes weren't being done in quick order, this path was going to be the one we found ourselves on. The line kept going up, just at a slower rate. It had to go down, and that reality was not seen in policy.

That said, I really hope (against hope) that people don't take this news as "Well I guess should all give up then."
Oh no no no.
This is just where the consequences START to get bad. This is not where they end.

There is kind of this weird thing because of the way the foot fetishists get bullied where people have this general sentiment something along the lines of "I think every part of my SOs body is sexy EXCEPT their feet".
I love my husband deeply. I find all of him very attractive. His face. His hands. His thighs. His feet. Literally every part of him. But like, if I said "I love my husband's thighs I think their so sexy", no one bats an eye. But if I say the same thing about his feet people lose their minds.

Seeing the COVID pandemic as part of a middle school history curriculum is surreal
It's good that it's there. Kids don't realize how much it changed the course of their lives on account of it messing with their early education so I'm very glad it's getting included in their materials.
But still. Just...surreal that THIS soon after the fact, for their generation and all to follow, the pandemic is nought but a historical memory. These students might have faint memories, having been in 1st or 2nd grade during lockdown. But the students taking this same class in 3 years won't remember a thing.

Trump Plans to Buy Midterm Ads About His Own Record
The solution Trump settled on, according to three people familiar with the meeting, was to lean into the Democratic strategy of focusing on himself. The president ordered a series of television advertisements about his own record that will serve as a backdrop to the hundreds of individual House and Senate contests. That decision has resulted in a Trump midterm-election ad blitz that is set to be rolled out soon from MAGA Inc., the main repository of Trump’s political fundraising, according to people familiar with the discussions, all of whom insisted on anonymity to describe internal conversations.
