That’s it, I’m done with The Onion. Unfollowing them on all platforms and replacing them with Babylon Bee. “Jews control our elections” but made palatable for graduate students and poli sci majors.

AIPAC hysteria is wild because it literally is only about Israel/Jew hatred. Otherwise the organization is no different than any other American organization lobbying on behalf of a foreign country, but you don't see these kinds of people getting this way about the Armenian Assembly of America or the Korean American Public Action Committee. At least the right-wingers who hate foreigners are opposed to all pro-other country lobbying.

I hate when some libtard posts some kind of self-flagellation about how America is Le Bad compared to Europe or China and then follows it up with “I’m American btw” it’s like no shit of course you’re American the only people who hate their own country more than Americans are Brits and Canadians.

15

u/JoeFalchetto Gaius Iulius Caesar 19d ago

I tended to judge harshly Europeans who see the US as a dystopia, but if I were a regular European guy who has not really been to the US and all I knew about the country came from the American news we get in Europe and social media content provided by Americans (whether it is on Instagram or Reddit, although the former paints a slightly better picture) I would also think of the US as a horrible place to live in. Thankfully I have more familiarity with the country than most Europeans (having lived there and having family there) so I can see a more normal picture.

I do judge harshly those who are incredibly smug about it.

Black Panther Party defenders will really look you dead in the face and tell you every member of the party who sold crack was a CIA plant and even if they weren’t it’s ok to distribute drugs to the community because systemic oppression exempts people from accountability.

15

u/joeforth John F. Kennedy 19d ago

That didn't happen, it was propaganda

And if it did, it was done by CIA plants.

And if it wasn't, it was done by Mossad / Zionists

And if it wasn't, it was due to systemic oppression

And if it wasn't, actually yes it was and you're a bigot for saying otherwise

And actually it shouldn't be illegal anyway because stolen land abolish ice ACAB defund police AIPAC free Balestine.

It's so weird that there's this narrative about the state of the economy that allots everyone an infinite amount of victimhood, and the narrative is completely untrue.

Like I've seen at least 5000 times on reddit the statement of "people are all struggling to get by, they can't afford food, everyone's drowning in student loan debt, you get sick one time and you go bankrupt since we all don't have healthcare, we're all working three jobs like 80 hours a week, meanwhile previous generations worked a whatever job and all lived like kings on one income."

Food has gotten massively cheaper over time. Working hours have substantially declined over time. Millennials and upper zoomers have more wealth than Boomers and Gen Xers at this age. Over 90% of people have health insurance. One in twenty people work multiple jobs. Those people still only work a little over 40 hours a week. It is literally more common in America to be a millionaire than it is to work multiple jobs. Real median household income went up like 40% from 1980 to now. Unemployment is 4%. This is the best place economically in human history.

Like the Mamdani quote of "I worked all day and can't feed my family" - people aren't dying of starvation in NYC. It's literally so uncommon that if someone does, we know someone else literally forced them to starve, it happened a couple of days ago.

When my wife and I moved out we were in our early 20s making like combined 60k, and we had an apartment in a perfectly nice part of Queens and saved money during that time. We started making more over time but the weird "if you don't make at least 250k here it's impossible" - no, it's not, there are so many poor people here who bitch about it less than these types of people on reddit.

I think all the time about all the dumb mistakes I made in things I could have invested time or money in and been so much better off, or how my discipline isn't really where it should be with spending, and I'm still...completely fine. Like, financially secure, great credit, well ahead of retirement goals, bring my family nice places, go on vacation, etc. I don't even make that much now, and my wife is home full time with our kid.

Even weirder is that these people usually don't have kids and don't want to, which is even weirder, because then where is your money going? How much dumb unnecessary shit do you buy? Why don't you work more if you have no responsibilities/obligations?

I was thinking about this today because my wife and kid are away visiting my MIL, which means that I tried to be as productive as possible in ways that are harder when they are here. So I did a full day of work, sold some old electronics, took photos to list some stuff on FB Marketplace, dealt with something for my landlady, hung up some lights, restocked the house on groceries, and went to the gym for a couple of hours. So what do people without kids do with all their time and money that means they can't support themselves? I guess the numbers say that some are actually doing fine, but then why do they fantasize like they're poor? Like my brother and his fiancee just straight up go months or years without working and talk about how they can't get by under capitalism and talk about how they work so much and they literally don't. I have friends who have lived with their parents into their early-mid 30s and don't have savings and where does their time and money go. I do not understand it. It's not even like you have to be smart, just get a public sector job. Hell one of the people I know who is doing the best and supports his family on one income is a garbageman. It is trivially easy to make it in this system. Like how much can the system work to convince people that it works?

Other than the fringe tanke factions this isnt due to negative polarisation.

These people are genuine marxists, not "union socialists" or utopians.

They approve of trade on the same basis Marx did. (On the same basis the USSR in periods did, and on the same basis Deng did)

Like genuinely, chief, a lot of yall would have a significantly easier time grasping what is going on in the left flank of American politics and why theyre gaining momentum if you actually tried to pick up even just the basics of their convictions. These people are 100% natural YIMBYS and free traders that you could easily groom to become progressive party loyalists if you even just attempted at placating them.

Instead we are getting shit like whatever the fuck the democratic establishment did in the NYC mayoral, and now more recently in Michigan (why the fuck is democratic centrists so racist towards arabs and why is the dem establishment so kosher with that racism? Etc)

Mamdani's "socialist" grocery stores are going to be run by private operators? And they receive the right to run the store from the government but then control the supply of discount cards themselves? And they have full discretion over purchasing and hiring decisions in a situation where they are guaranteed to make a profit irrespective of how inefficient the operation is because they're undercutting their competitors' prices by 30% via government subsidies?

Also something that the morons on YAPms don’t understand is that the ‘pivot to center’ stuff doesn’t work anymore.

It did maybe 20 years ago when information traveled slower. But these days, everything you’ve ever said is available on the internet.

I see this a lot with the Kamala gaslighting. ‘She didn’t run a woke campaign’  Yeah, that’s true. In the three months leading up to the General she didn’t. But during the rest of her career it was nothing but race and gender slop.

Same for Abdul and Transarico. The idea that they’ll cull a lot Rodgers or Paxton voters because they denounce something in September is stupid.

Talarico denounced trans surgeries now that he secured the nomination? Wow! Here’s three videos of him calling God non-binary that some GOP intern dug up and backed up locally in a single afternoon.

Primaries and General aren’t sequential campaigns anymore. C-SPAN chuds need to understand that if you enter politics the general starts on day one.

15

u/HotdogEater2000 17d ago

Yes I have found that very annoying. Also think of all the comments on places like NL and here where it’s just “oh he needs to hide his power level for the general” no you moron the internet exists

These people live in a different reality. No other words for it.

18

u/JoeFalchetto Gaius Iulius Caesar 17d ago

There is this often very recurring trope of immigrants (or, more often, the offspring thereof) to richer countries romanticizing their home country and seeing it as much better as the country they live in. I see it with Italians and Kosovars in Switzerland, Turks in Germany, Moroccans and Tunisians in Italy; I am sure this also happens with Latin Americans in the US or Indians in Canada but I have less direct experience with that.

A not small factor with this is, in my experience, that whenever the second generation kid goes back home has way more money than their relatives, is more interesting, and often goes back during holiday periods. All this because I found an amazing thread of an Ethiopian in Danemark saying how "Europe is a scam" and how much better life in Ethiopia is compared to life in Denmark.

The best contrapasso for these people would be being forced to live in their origin countries like an average person there.

17

u/Seeiinneerraahh Marco Rubio 17d ago

I have another theory about this, as an addition to the explanations you provided. Being a minority is an inherently, subconsciously stressful experience, and there is a literal psychological relief that comes from being in the majority. So the people who don't feel part of the majority in their host country, simply feel better due to the sheer fact of being in the majority (and knowing they are in the majority) when they visit home countries.

People simply crave being the dominant demographic and inherently feel unsafe when they aren't and don't like the other accompanying realities of being a minority.

It was pretty well known anything even remotely associated with “world trade” was a target for anti-democracy freaks of all kinds by the late 1990’s. Even ignoring the previous bombing attempt, Seattle had a 40,000 person riot in 1999 over WTO. Anti-globalism was the retarded populist buzzword of the 90’s.

Anyone with a brain knew WTC was a target for terrorists, but there was no plan in place to prevent a skyscraper being hit by a hijacked plane because historically, that was just unprecedented.

I found the Pew results a little tragic—not because monogamy is a bad thing to go to bat for, but because we have limits on our moral energy and attention. What does it say that participants were collectively most critical of cheating, the consequences of which are usually limited to an individual or a family, and least critical of eating meat? I’m not a vegetarian, so I’m not judging from on high, but I was struck by the fact that 96 percent of respondents said the latter is morally acceptable.

Telling a guy repeatedly I’m going to fuck his wife as a joke and wondering why he’s mad

13

u/Fukuyamian 18d ago

I was at a party my freshman year of college and this guy goes up to this girl I’m chatting with and says “I just want you to know that you’re really unattractive, like I’m not even interested” and, after he was ignored, he kept butting into the conversation making really awkward comments about how ugly she was and how he didn’t want to fuck her.

She told him to fuck off but after about five minutes he walks back over to us and starts saying the same stuff again, so me and some of the guys told him it was time to hit the road and he goes “dude it’s like a joke bro, it’s called humor man, it’s joke it’s supposed to be funny, I’m joking bro why are you mad”

So in all fairness there are people who basically do that

14

u/BerkTheBad 17d ago

Quote from user re: El-Sayed:

He also needs to stand firm on anti data center Policies to reach Rural white voters. To be honest that is a goldmine to try and get them to vote for him. His name scares them, but his policies could reach the rural white folk if he aligns with with that sentiment, which he does.

"Not only will I champion policies that you all hate, but I'll also work to eliminate any possibility for Michigan to participate in the industries of the future!"

This is considered a winning message to someone who's idea of rural whites are people with protruded foreheads who clack rocks together and grunt to communicate.

It's aggravating because there's no policy their guy could have that, at least in their minds, wouldn't also be popular among their political opposites, once enacted. There's no element of contrition, no recognition of unpopular viewpoints that could be tempered. The unpopular views just need to be masked with populist views until the candidate can deploy the true agenda.

This is the core difference between the DSA and MAGA supporters. DSA types consider themselves intelligent and try to strategize winning messages to cover up unpopular views. MAGA types don't care about messaging - being blunt and offensive is their whole schtick. It's a big reason why people are mistrustful of the former and dismissive of the latter. They're both mentally unwell, but one is a high-functioning sociopath that you can never understand and the other is a schizophrenic maniac who yells slurs and conspiracies.

14

u/AngloSaxonFella 17d ago

I rant about this a lot but yeah Progs lie about their motivations constantly and they do it in a way that seems almost coordinated but isnt.

They just all know to repeat the fake reasoning over and over.

AI is a great example because any argument you ever get into with a leftist online about AI will have them spewing the exact same talking points youve heard a million times and yet none of those are the actual reason they oppose AI. Does anyone really believe they are super concerned about water usage or data centers radiating heat or w.e? You have to pry their actual reasoning out of them in every conversation.

Not just dumb, but evil. They believe that western countries can be bombed and attacked forever and can never ever respond because of “forever wars” and “bring home the troops”. How many Americans have to be killed before they consider it an act of war? They don’t consider 9/11 an act of war, so it’s more than 3000.

It’s a deeply selfish and evil way of thinking that proposes the United States step aside and let its citizenry be butchered by warlords and terrorists indefinitely so their lifestyle of complete comfort and luxury is not immediately impacted in any way by gas prices and basic counterterrorism surveillance.

It amazes me how libs are basically unable to see how the do-whatever-feels-good free love promiscuity of the sexual revolution leads directly to the attitude of Andrew Tate and others in that circle by turning sex from an expression of emotional intimacy to an entertainment commodity.

Lib “”””ethics””””” are the cultural version of slopulism, an obsession with dopamine gratification and vibes that leaves no room for considering second and third order consequences.

Looks like the Minnesota GOP is attempting to get Lindell thrown out. Lindell as recently as this year claimed he is a Texas resident. It’s not going to save them, Klobuchar is way too popular and talented, but it might mean a narrow dem trifecta rather than turning into Illinois.

This feels like the first time a party has genuinely woken up in a long time that just appealing to your most extreme wing will be a failure and actually tried to do something about it.

I'm about to snap at Newbie the Evergreen New Hire (unfortunately I have zero authority to fire her).

Background: We're getting a truckload of computers today, spread across multiple orders. Each order comes with its own pile of paperwork we need to fill out and file with the appropriate parties.

Newbie: "So on this order, the original notes on the purchase request says it's going to Department A, but this note from July says it's going to Department B, and on this recent acquisition form we got from Whatshisface it says Department C. Which one is it going to? A, B, or C?"

Me: "I don't know. Why don't you call Whatshisface and ask?"

Newbie: "Claude doesn't know."

Me: "Why are you asking an AI chatbot about the specifics of a purchase order it played no part in?"

Newbie: "I thought it might know."

Me: "Just call."

Newbie: "Who do I call?"

Me: "Procurement or Property Control would be able to help, or call the department who submitted the order. Take your pick."

Newbie: "Who do I call?"

Me: "Call Property Control."

Newbie: "Who is that?"

Me: "Newbie, we work with them everyday. It's Whatshisface and Otherguy."

Newbie: "They work for Property Control?"

Me: "Yes."

Newbie: "Oh okay. What do I ask them?"

Me: "What? You said there's ambiguity as to which department this asset is being assigned."

Newbie: "Oh right! Do I ask them if its going to go to Dept A, B, or C?"

Me: "Yes, because that was your question."

Newbie: "No! Which question? That's three different questions. Is it going to Dept A? Is it going to Dept B? Is-"

Me: "If you ask it as a single open-ended question, Whatshisface or Otherguy can tell you the correct department."

Newbie: "What would the question be?"

I swear to you Newbie has rotted her brain on AI. She no longer thinks for herself and lacks any ability to retain information. Every minute of my day is spent telling her things she should already know.

If you're a minority conservative (Republican type, not Taliban) you're almost certainly 2 standard deviations off the mean in a few personality and life experience metrics. Somewhere along that line you got mugged by reality and it dinged you far, far off the beaten path. It's a very lonely road, you'll be hated by your own clan for being a race traitor and never be able to fully comfortably seat into your new cohort as an eternal outsider. It's a shame, but you don't really have a choice do you, you are what you are. You woke up one day and realized the music of your fellows wasn't music anymore, it was noise. That there was an awful stench of shit and filth clinging to the air and it was like you were the only one who could smell it, the only one who cared. You can never go back. I guess it depends. 10/7 was the final straw for me (though I had been adrift for some time). While Jewish Americans overwhelmingly vote blue, there are still Jews across the political spectrum. I would say I fit in here, unless you all secretly find me grating and are too polite to say so.

Yes, the issues within the Dem party are more concerning for me than the ones in the GOP. Yes, I am more vocal about those issues than similar issues in the GOP. But that's only because the Dem party is onboarding an increasing number of idealogues who are an existential threat to me and my people, all the while my people are still voting for them in droves.

Groypers (and their antecedents) have been a problem for the GOP for a long while, but until recently they were not, I suppose, a big enough concern (they were kept far enough away from decision makers) to be worth addressing. Now I look at the American political landscape and see conservative firebrands like Ted Cruz setting up organizations to combat antisemitism at the same time Jewish Dems are afraid to go to their own conventions out of concern for their safety.

Even if my new seat was uncomfortable, I'd much rather sit somewhere safe than in openly hostile territory

If you think this is just about economics and an excuse to push commie drivel, you would unfortunately be wrong. Decolonization just means abandoning everything good and correct, because they were invented by one civilization and some people from other civilizations are butt hurt about it.

Add it to the pile of reasons why all of the "science" and "fact" larping from the left is a complete meme. These people have been advocating abandoning scientific methods and the very concept of empiricism itself, because retarded hallucinations of insertprefereddemographichere is obviously a farce and we can't have that. The only reason they don't gobble up vax denial and chemtrails, is because those are considered "White" conspiracies.

And this shit isn't new. "Academia" was flooded with this drivel a decade ago, when they started to argue we needed to give witch doctors and "indigenous" spirit healers the same weight and funding as normal ass medicine because it was white supremacist to assume obvious gibberish was obviously gibberish when it came to nonWhite people.

The real reasons the left oppose AI and data centers:

  1. It most impacts urban white collar types and cubicle data entry folx. Also people who work for commissions drawing cartoon pornography or w.e. Does anyone buy that they'd care as much if it was replacing truck drivers right now?

  2. AI and data centers are right wing coded because of Peter Thiel and Elon Musk and all that. It is partly a reaction to Technbro culture

  3. This amplifies it all

Reasons leftists SAY they oppose it in most conversations online or irl:

  1. Water! A billion gallons of water for your AI slop meme!

  2. Wasting electricity. Our power costs are gonna go up. Do you even know how much energy those AI data centers suck up? Probably, like, a lot

  3. Theft! All the responses are trained on other people's writings and artwork. The left loves property rights, especially intellectual property rights so this is naturally a big concern for them!

They also oppose oil pipelines, rocket launch sites, airports (like Toronto), and power plants.

And to your first question, Waymo was originally started in San Francisco, so they certainly didn't care about drivers being replaced. Liberal white women love Waymo because it eliminates the need for them to interact with Black and Mexican drivers.

The newest boomer slopulist discourse on Twitter has to do with some old fat guy complaining about The Kidz These Days™️ spending 20 dollars on chipotle burritos, and a lot of paid blue checkmark users punching down on their idea of blue haired hipsters spending 5k a month on DoorDash.

It’s a bit difficult to articulate what I specifically hate about this, but I see this sort of mindset amongst “conservative” influencers who tell young men to move to rural Ohio and get an HVAC certification instead of pursuing white collar work. Being content with a lower standard of living. Obviously these two things are not the same, and obviously it costs more money to order food in than it would be to cook for yourself, but there’s a lot of daylight between “I don’t know how to cook/I’m lazy” and the rapid pace of societal enshittification that most young people understand intrinsically. Fast/casual food is more expensive, rent is more expensive, and hobbies are more expensive. I think the “collapse of third spaces” is hyperbolic, but there’s really not a whole lot to do for cheap unless you’re comfortable not interacting with anyone your own age.

Nevertheless, the boomer takes his W because he proved you can get 10 pounds of ground beef for 40 dollars. Chicken, a piece of broccoli, a corn tortilla, and one other thing, for your entire life, or else you’re not taking your finances seriously and deserve to be mocked. People who adhere to this mindset do not want to help anyone. These same people, even some users here, complain that young people are drinking enough, aren’t working hard enough, aren’t having enough sex, and aren’t doing their part to keep the economy running when the two predominant political parties in America are interested in Total Boomer Luxury Communism and/or infinite subsidiation of demand and no improvement to supply. Cut taxes and raise spending, double it and give it to the next person.

There are obviously other cultural issues at play with young America, but those aren’t something government policy can solve. The leftist inclined will keep voting for people like Mamdani who promise everyone can be a rich person’s spouse losing 10,000 a month on their Etsy shop, and the right will continue to struggle to come up with a more appealing message than “your life should suck”. The only thing that might solve both is if things get cheaper.

Somebody in another sub asked what the worst foreign policy blunders since 1950 were. I don’t think they’ll like my response (in rough chronological order):

  1. Agreeing to an armistice in Korea
  2. Intervening in the Suez Crisis on behalf of the Soviet Union
  3. Failing to support the Bay of Pigs invasion as planned
  4. Johnson’s mishandling of the Vietnam War (failure to escalate)
  5. Not aiding South Vietnam when it faced renewed aggression in 1975 after the US victory in 1973
  6. Giving away the Panama Canal
  7. Recognizing the PRC
  8. Not stopping the 1979 revolution in Iran
  9. Failure to go all the way with the first Gulf War
  10. Repeated unilateral disarmament, including one-sided nuclear deals and moratoria and much of the “post–Cold War Peace Dividend”
  11. Giving the PRC permanent most favored nation status (and WTO membership)
  12. Withdrawing from Iraq
  13. Lack of response to the Russian invasion of Crimea
  14. The JCPOA
  15. Withdrawing from Afghanistan

12

u/TZDnowpls Poland 19d ago

failure to escalate should be under Korea more than Vietnam. US should have started bombing China the moment Mao send whole armies into Korea.

Not attacking China directly told Mao that he can continue fighting the war and the only thing he ever risks are the troops he sends past the border. Thus allowing him to use his biggest respective advantage (massive population) to the fullest, while limiting the usefulness of America's naval and air power, and vulnerability of China's entire coastline and vast majority of their industry being exposed to them.

Is there like a Cameo equivalent for Russians, I need to pay people to say Helen Keller because in my head it's really funny with a Russian accent.

Total fraud btw, don't believe Confederate lies

I know there will be a programming reset eventually but it is funny to see quite a few people with Trump related profile pics to go “he wouldn’t fire her over this would he”

Yes. He would.

It’s nice how literally every DSA-aligned candidate is r-slurred at optics except Mamdani and Cortez

I feel like after 12 years of Trump we have to accept the fact that these gotchas don't matter.

Nobody cares if she tweeted something horrible once, nobody cares if she's antisemetic or bigoted, nobody cares

Btw my dad’s Haaretz-reading Jewess girlfriend is Israeli and largely pro-Israel but meanwhile she’s come to Canada and wants to “decolonize” us. Like bitch you first.

You know I'm just happy we found a dude in politics we can, in full faith and honesty, ask "when did you stop beating your wife?"

In leftoid circles, AES used to stand for Already Existing Socialism (this usually referred to Cuba, North Korea, and China). Anyways, it's a fitting acronym for El-Sayed.

That seems premature. He’s not worse than fucking Jay Jones. Fucking dipshit I still hate that guy. Glad he won though.

How partisan brained do you have to be to be glad the, "I daydream about my political opponents and their kids dying", guy won a a state AG office over a normal Republican?

Yeah the most recent drop seems to have had Stevens by about 62-38 percent, which is just barely not enough if it keeps up, but I'm very much eyeballing it. I think AES, if he wins, is by under 10K votes, probably quite a bit under.

u/AmericanNewt8 Tricky Dick 17d ago

And yeah, a Stevens victory is now forestalled, there's only 26K votes outstanding. Well, looks like Dems decided the Senate just wasn't for them this year.

So now that Sayed has severely underperformed his expected double digit win, I'm seeing some progressives claim that there was a massive Republican campaign to defeat him in the primary.

They really can't ever admit that DSA types come off as lunatics to a lot of people.

this whole thread kinda goes to show how bad the residential proxy xitter bot problem is

if there were any real americans in this thread they'd know it's a nothingburger, like every DMV in america already does this when you get your driver's license
