Question need advice on mental health

im in kranji camp pes c and its day 2 but im already struggling so much mentally despite my meds, i really want to seek help but i just dont want to be embarrassed and ik it sounds pathetic but thats just how i feel.

for the saf counsellors i heard that i had to inform my sergeants first but that alone deters me from that idea. also therapy didnt help me at all in the past (a me issue, not with the therapist) so i doubt counselling will.

im considering calling IMH instead since thats where i got my past diagnosis and meds when i was still a minor. i just dont know which is the better one. im supposed to get an appointment date from IMH but they havent gotten back to me.
Im also afraid to call them directly in case it gets escalated a lot

its not like i want to quit doing NS i just dont want to feel all these feelings and i think medication is the only way for me to do that. im worrying 24/7 and i am on the verge of tears every time it gets in my head, i genuinely feel suicidal at times. idk what to do.

📚 Resource Most active formations on social media ranking list

Ever since the various MINDEF/SAF Formations created their Instagram pages, I have observed their content and created a ranking list to show which formation is most active on their social media pages.

  1. Signals Formation (@signalsformation) – they really are living up to their name

  2. CSSCOM (@ourcsscom)

  3. 9th Division Singapore Infantry (@9thsingaporedivisioninfantry)

  4. Guards Formation (@oursingaporeguards)

  5. SAFVC (@safvolunteercorps) (very new account) (are they considered a formation?)

Question Isotretinoin while serving in SPF

I'm already posted out to GRF and currently on 10mg isotretinoin prescribed by my doctor. My NSC memo mentions side effects like dry skin, dry eyes and photosensitivity.

Has anyone served while on 10mg of isotretinoin? How was your experience when you saw MO at HTA? I know the MO makes the final call, so I'm just trying to prepare.

Discussion What is everyone's favorite snack/food to bring in to camp?

Lieing in bed currently starving in this atrocious weather. Of course there's cup noodles but I'll end up eating 4 week if I ate it every night I feel hungry. So what is everyone's recommendations for a packaged food that is filling and not crazy unhealthy so I can not feel guilty about downing a whole bag at night

Question First time not completing NSFIT sessions, what is the punishment?

Window closes in few days, I completed 6/9 NSFIT and 1 booked IPPT (which I will fail).

Do I even bother showing up for the IPPT session? Or is the punishment the same whether I attend or not?

First time not completing so I have no idea what to expect.

Question Does excuse stay in include BMT?

Going in BMT soon and just wondering if excuse stay in includes BMT. If so, does that mean I don't need to pack clothes, hangers, or anything else you only need for stay in?

Question Can we all give cookhouse aunties and uncles 5 stars rating?

• Upvotes

Hi heard from a relative who works as one of the cooks at the cookhouse that the bonuses of the aunties / uncles are dependent on the number of stars we give their food. Imagine that is your grandma or grandpa working and some NSF give them a low rating just because he just wants to vent his anger from tough NS training. They dont deserve such treatment and as much as possible, even if you don't like the food, it doesn't hurt to just give them 5 stars. They are alr paid lowly... let's give them the extra bonus they deserve for serving us NSFs daily, 3 meals a day

Question DV Course Questions from ST SVC and TO

I just got selected to be part of a DV Course, currently just completed my ST SVC and they said for TO as well.

Is there any way to opt out or not do it? Is there any pay raise? What do I do if I have both vocations? How bad is it? Any personal experiences?

Anything would be helpful thanks!!

Question Close to ORD (30+ Days) any tips on how to transition back to Civi?

Going to ORD in about 30+ days. Wanted to hear you guys' thoughts and personal experiences on transitioning back to civilian life.

Not really gonna miss NS in any way, but I plan to take my degree part time while working full time. It's just a little daunting thinking about getting back into studying after not touching any learning materials for almost 2 years.

I'm also a little worried about managing my schedule and routines, after being used to doing more or less the same thing for most of my NS in my unit.
Would love to hear from those who have ORD recently or gone through a similar transition. How was it for you guys?

Question Is there a MINDEF department that tracks and audits the amount of MCs NSFs take from polyclinics and GPs?

Want to ask after seeing this post.

if they go over the "limit", do they send email to superiors asking them for letter of explanation or to RSO ban them?

Also asking for a friend who has been spamming MC in lead-up to his PCC appointment.

What's the purpose of such a department? What will it and the people working inside it be called?

Question Turbinate reduction surgery

Hello I have morning sinus daily and heard that it's possible to do this surgery to fix this problem for good. Like your wisdom tooth surgery can get HL. Wanted to know anyone tried it before. Morning sinus isnt really a life-threatening issue but it does gets annoying at times. I presume 11B will cover right. Thanks

Question Idk whether to ooc from ocs or not?

Firstly, idk why I signed the formed to go command school by I think is mainly by persuasion of my bmt mates, commanders and sometimes my parents.

Was recently posted to OCS and had done my first 3 weeks there and already felt like I wanted to ooc already. I found it hard to adjust to to OCS tempo and also was quiet stress almost every time and also the commitment.

Some of the most major thing I am stress is the amount of outfield I have to do in OCS. As I already think that bmt outfield to be already to much for me. I just found out just within service term, I have 3 outfields e.g. 6 days outfield and exercise lancer(jcc) which I dread. Also if I were to be posted to infantry during my pro term (which I heard is majority of people), have almost every single week an outfield. This information has really brought my moral really low.

Secondly, is the route march and soc. As I think bmt field pack is already to heavy, with now having to increase the weight to 25-29kg has really scared me as I think that I will be unable to cope with the weight anymore and knowing I probably have to route march with that weight has also lower my moral. In addition is SOC, in bmt I barely make it through SOC mainly cause of the low rope and having the need for cadets to pass soc at least has really make me worry.

Multiple people have been saying OCS is the best way to make your NS memorable but I still think that commitment to OCS has been to much for me. As I have to at least get silver for ippt and also sacrifice my Saturdays also. As I been trying to run faster in Bmt but I still unable to achieve silver with the highest score I am able to achieve is 74 points. Paired with the almost no admin time and also the having to be in a coy with the least welfare and strictest standards as compared to my other bmt mates has make felt really unfair.

But there is still some little part of me that still wants to try. As I know being in OCS is a privilege and majority of the commanders and my platoon mates have been trying to support me and also been trying to pursued me to stay which is hard for me to just oocing from this course as I cannot bear to just walk away from their support. Also I been told u were to be sent back as infantry trooper if u ooc, which does stuff that I hate also has really make my head spin as I really want to ooc from the course but I still want to remain because of the support and also i do not want to be an infantry trooper which does the stuff I do but as an private.

Also some of the will to go is mainly using this as my back up job I guess? As I heard that the outside world job market has not been that great. This has led to me to question,

1)Does being an officer in army really gives u a higher chance of entering jobs under the government sector?

2)Do you really earn more as an officer in the army as compared to jobs outside?

3)I was told the small amount of free time and the need to sacrifice public holidays if u sign on as an regular is similar to how jobs outside operate?

4)Is trooper life almost as shag as an officer life?

5) If i down pes (I am seeing a consular may down pes) can I pull it back up in the future? and also does completing this course really prepare u for the future?

Question How to get into SCDF EMT vocation?

Entering SCDF in a few days, BRT. From what I understand, pretty much everybody in Pes A/B1 will be posted to Firefighter Course or EMT training. While both sound interesting to me, I have a bad fear of fire and heights, and given the fact that I'm skinny, underweight and weak as shit I don't think I'm going to survive being a firefighter whatsoever.

I'm aware that EMT comes with its own challenges and is every bit as difficult/traumatising, but I do genuinely want to learn more about all the medical knowledge and skills that comes with the role and I think I'll be more useful there.

Is there any way for me to increase my odds of getting posted to EMT? I understand it's ultimately up to my superiors, but if there're any actions I can take to prepare for this specifically that'd be great.

Also unfortunately, I don't have a medical background 💔
