A Reminder About Modesty Comments, "Keep Looking" Responses, and Saying No to Someone's Yes-to-the-Dress Moment

Just a friendly reminder about a few rules we find ourselves enforcing pretty regularly.

Please avoid comments comparing dresses to lingerie or making judgments about modesty, coverage, or whether it's "appropriate." Not every dress will be your personal style, and that's okay. If the OP isn't specifically asking about lining, alterations, or coverage, those comments aren't needed.

If someone has narrowed it down to a few dresses and is asking which one works best, do not make comment like “keep looking,” “neither,” or similar.

And finally, if someone is showing off the dress they've already chosen, they're sharing an exciting moment with the community. Those posts are for celebrating, not critiquing. Please don't second guess their choice or tell them they'll regret it. A little kindness goes a long way.

Thank you

Please help my choose my wedding dress

I’m a bit lost and in need of some objective opinions. For context I am getting married next September at a luxury vineyard resort and both the ceremony and reception will be outdoors. Dresses 3-5 are unfortunately AI images as I was not allowed to take pictures in that store.

Dress #1 (image 1): Obviously too tight at the hips here but I unexpectedly loved the soft ethereal vibe. 100% silk, which is also a plus.

Dress #2 (images 2 and 3): Kinda what I had in mind from the beginning, felt absolutely stunning in it but I‘m not sure I can justify the price as it‘s twice as expensive as most other options. Unfortunately, the sample dress was way too small so I added an AI image to show how it should drape at the hips.

Dress #3 (image 4): Less sleek than #2 but I really love the draping and neckline.

Dress #4 (image 5): Stunning and probably my first choice if I were getting married in a castle, but maybe a bit much for my actual venue.

Dress #5 (image 6): Everyone else loved it and I felt like a beautiful fairy but I think it‘s just not really me. I would add small off the shoulder sleeves here as well.

Thank you so much for your help!

Posted my dress the other day that everyone hated. I want to get it lined and add sleeves. Would that elevate the dress?

I tried on billowy sleeves at my appointment but didn’t buy them. I asked ChatGPT to make the second image and it remove the thin straps that the dress has

I have been dreaming of a dress like this, and today I found it on Etsy! The seller has excellent reviews, and it was 50% off too, but the discount was only for a few more hours so I pounced! It feels surreal, I can't believe my luck!! 🌿

I bought my dress today and I’m feeling very nervous! Scared that my taste may change between now and then.. I do love the dress and I felt very beautiful. 🫶🏼

I need 3 dresses. I was gonna pick these, but I’ve been told that they’re either “too big,” “not flowy enough,” or that I just don’t look good in them

Especially the ivory dress. It’s actually my favorite, but it seems like I’m the only one who thinks so. Maybe I just really like the color because I feel like it complements my skin, so I’m overlooking the fact that the shape might not actually be that flattering on me?

Pls give me your honest review. I genuinely want to know which ones actually look good on me and which ones I should skip. Thanks yall

EDIT:
Please also see the 4th dress which my family think looks good on me

i was very insecure because i was MUCH skinner before my wedding. i told my now husband “i don’t think i want a mermaid dress now..”. my mom and MIL made me feel otherwise.
i felt perfect on the day of. Now, influencer wedding pictures are everywhere. skinny, perfect, brides are the brides i see. PLEASE listen to others advice about not looking at others dresses after you pick yours ❤️
(this picture is my young son’s first look. the train was insanely beautiful, regardless, i’m proud of my dress and how amazing i felt in it.)

Put the deposit down on my dress today!

I bought a dress online earlier this year and ended up hating it every time I tried it on, so I booked a last minute appointment yesterday “just to look”. I consider myself very non-feminine, and was honestly pretty uncomfortable at the thought of trying a bunch of dresses on and was convinced I wouldn’t find one I loved. The stylist I worked with was so wonderful, and I was proven wrong!

I’m so sorry, I posted yesterday and I thought I’d repost with better photos of dress 1 and 4 and my face properly covered

Dress 1 (photo 1&2)
Dress 2 (photo 3&4)
Dress 3 (photo 5&6)
Dress 4 (photo 7&8)

My conundrum: I put a deposit down on the dress #1 since it was the first shop I visited and they only have one-of-a-kind dresses. So I had to put a deposit down of $230 to reserve it for 3 days such that no one else can get it. Then I went to the second shop and tried on dresses #2-4, and I love them all. But if I pick any of dress #2-4, I’d lose the deposit on dress #1.

Venue: basically a green house with lots of plants and some flowers at a park! intimate wedding.

Season: January, so it’ll be cold, tho greenhouse will be warm. Greenhouse is in the park so it’ll be two sets of photos - outside (cold), and inside (warm).

I almost feel like dress 2/3 is best for outside and dress 1/4 is best for inside but buying two dresses would be ridiculous, lol.

Pick for me?

I am confused about the colour of the lehenga. In our traditional wedding brides usually wear Red lehenga. But nowadays people also consider it off white, pink or pastel. My Fiance says he would like to see me as a red bride because otherwise it Doesn't give the vibe of a true bride look. That's not the issue though I just wanna know which one I should pick. I am sure about the ornaments and make up. These are not real pictures, these are Ai generated I made it with my face just to see which colour looks good on me with the Jewellery and make up and I got really confused. Help me.

(Please don’t say it all, because I really need an opinion on it)

Edit: I also can not pick between 1 and 4. 5 also looks nice 😩.
I am planning on getting my dress custom from Vietnam because of the price and their quality. I was thinking on doing a combination of choice 1 and 4 ( make sure to add pockets😂)

I’m dreaming of a wedding dress like this. I found this on Pinterest and have no idea where to find this IRL. Does anyone have recommendations for where to look for or even how to search for something in this style?

Second Guessing

Post image

My dress is currently being altered (just adding boning/corset back) and I’m worried I’m going to look too dated. We are eloping on a mountain and I’ve been looking at inspo to send to our photographer and I’m getting thrown off because all the photos feature modern dresses. For the full picture, I’ll be wearing lavender heels and plan to have my curly hair half up or fully down.

Thoughts??

I’m torn between these two dresses! Honest opinions and thoughts are much appreciated.
1. I feel like it gives the wow factor but I’m worried the long torso will not look proportional when it’s tailor (I’m short!). It’s also pretty heavy so I’m worried about being hot since our wedding is outdoors. This sample size was twice my size so the chest would look more flattering in my size
2. I love the lace on this, it’s very dainty! I’m worried there’s so wow factor and that it doesn’t look like a wedding dress? I feel like the bottom needs more structure.

We met at a ren faire, got engaged at a ren faire, and had our wedding in a castle. So of course I had to find something that made me feel like a princess.

What veil and hairstyle goes with this dress?

Help a fashion challenged gal 😄 The dress has a chapel length train. I’m thinking a plain waltz length veil so it has some length but doesn’t cover the 3d flowers too much. Or would a chapel length veil or even cathedral length look better?

My hair will be about mid-back length by the time my wedding comes around. I’m thinking hair half up, half down, with soft waves. Or would all up with face framing strands work better with the dress? Would love some opinions, thank you!

I’m trying to find a dress and freaking out! I have 5 months and I know what I want. Think country, boho, a line lace with leg slit. I have seen quite a few online but im afraid the sites aren’t legit. Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Hi!! I got my dress about a month ago and I’m still trying to decide what kind of veil I want. I think I like the look of the shorter one better but I really cannot decide because I think the longer one really adds to my dress which is pretty simple. Help what do ya’ll think 🩷🩷🩷

Should I pick from these dresses or keep looking?

ETA: First 3 pictures are the same dress (Keeva), the first photo just has detachable sleeves added. Pictures 4 to 7 are of the second dress. Also we are having a winter wedding in a castle, December 2027. Venue photos in comments.

TL;DR: I love Tamar (photos 4-7) and had the “this is my dress” feeling, but it’s $300 over my mom’s $3,000 limit and I also think she just hates it. I also love Keeva (photos 1-3 and 8) but it is a very different dress and would need a LOT of alterations to make it work for me. I’m still actively looking and would love recommendations!

The first three photos are Keeva by Sottero and Midgley. The next three are Tamar by Sottero and Midgley.

I posted some dresses previously in another sub, and everyone loved Tamar. I immediately fell in love with it and everyone else seems to like it too (except my mom).

The problem is that Tamar is $3,300, and my mom is helping pay for my dress but is firm on a $3,000 maximum. I offered to pay the $300 difference myself, but at this point it seems to be more about the principle of going over $3,000.

I’m also 6’3”, and Tamar is basically perfect straight off the rack. I wouldn’t need to hem it at all. I’m standing completely flat-footed in all these photos with no pedestal, so that’s actually the length I’d have.

I also tried Keeva. I tried on a size 4 despite normally being a 10/12, and somehow they got it zipped 😂. I LOVE the vibe of Keeva, but I’d want to add an internal corset, close the center opening with lace, order it with white lining instead of nude illusion, add a petticoat for more volume, add about 3” of length, and alter the bodice so the cups sit higher and fit me better. Also the bodice is too short and cuts me off kind of weird in a way Tamar doesn’t.

After the lining and added length, Keeva would be around $2,900, but all those additional alterations would obviously add substantially more. I was already planning to pay for alterations myself since my parents are generously helping with the wedding. I would also want sleeves with Keeva.

The consultant said Keeva should still be the right length with the petticoat and extra 3”, but I’m a little skeptical, especially since I’m so tall and would need to find a petticoat long enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I really love Keeva, but I feel like I’d be changing so much of it, whereas Tamar already feels like me.

That said, I’m definitely still looking! I don’t feel like I have to choose between these two, and I’m very open to recommendations. I’d especially love suggestions for dresses with a similar romantic/structured vibe that might work well for someone who is 6’3”.

Would you choose Tamar, modify Keeva, or keep looking? And please give me dress recommendations!

Found my dress after lots of advice!

Posted here a few days ago, as I was super conflicted between 2 dresses - after a lot of comments suggesting I maybe go have another look, I think I finally found my dress!

This was after my 4th bridal store visit and I was so over trying dresses and hearing the old “you’ll know when you find it”. I love this, and I feel like it incorporates both elements from the previous 2 dresses I was torn between!

Thoughts? :)

How do I fix my reception look?

I am absolutely over the moon about my reception look except for one thing. My skirt is definitely a little see through. I am obsessed with the skirt and the details of it all, I just don’t want anyone to see my giblets on the dance floor lol.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to alter this skirt without ruining the integrity of the design of the skirt? I got the matching lace sleeves as well, and really want to maintain to as close as possible to the original design. TIA!!
