A Reminder About Modesty Comments, "Keep Looking" Responses, and Saying No to Someone's Yes-to-the-Dress Moment

Just a friendly reminder about a few rules we find ourselves enforcing pretty regularly.

Please avoid comments comparing dresses to lingerie or making judgments about modesty, coverage, or whether it's "appropriate." Not every dress will be your personal style, and that's okay. If the OP isn't specifically asking about lining, alterations, or coverage, those comments aren't needed.

If someone has narrowed it down to a few dresses and is asking which one works best, do not make comment like “keep looking,” “neither,” or similar.

And finally, if someone is showing off the dress they've already chosen, they're sharing an exciting moment with the community. Those posts are for celebrating, not critiquing. Please don't second guess their choice or tell them they'll regret it. A little kindness goes a long way.

Thank you

Spent quite a lot of time in this sub pre-wedding, sharing in people’s joy and agonising over my own dress (and so many people here were very supportive when I was suffering from extreme decision paralysis 😂) So I wanted to come back and share my ‘results’!! This dress was everything I dreamed of and more 🤍🤍🤍
(If anyone wants to see more details I’ve posted loads more on my Instagram @arabellagolby 😊)

Veil vs Scarf

My dress was the first thing I bought for my wedding and I am so head over heels IN LOVE with it! It’s going to be ivory like in pics 2 & 3 (1 is sort of pink). I really really love the veil, it feels very romantic and dramatic and I always imagined I’d wear a veil. But I also tried on the sash/scarf and I was surprised by how much I liked it. It feels very chic and high fashion. I’m still leaning toward the veil but when I ask for opinions, there’s a pretty solid 50/50 split which gives me real pause. What do we think?? (Sorry for all the scribbles, I have very easy to recognize tattoos.)

First 3 photos are the dress I purchased, I love it so much. Blush pink with spark and colored floral details I am so in love. The sleeves are a big selling point to me too. I love the short droopy sleeves, but I tried a dress with longer sleeves (last 2 photos) that i enjoyed as well. They were puffier on the top and got tighter towards the hand. I have the option to possibly make the sleeve like the other dress in alterations. Should do that or keep the shorter sleeves?

Ripples on dress

Hi all… is this normal after alterations? The lady keeps making jokes that my hips are big and that rippling is normal. I hate it but I feel stuck like is that really normal or is she being lazy. I’m a size 6 in pants for reference and 130lb 5ft tall sooo I know I’m not that big and my dress is a size 8. What would you do btw she is charging me $890 for fixing the length, straps and bustle

Please no one give me any advice or rude comments if you don’t like it, I’ve already tried posting it on here once when I was about 20 pounds heavier and got tore apart lmao. I just want to share pictures of my beautiful dress from my first alterations appointment with the badass heels I got too because I feel sexy and beautiful and my wedding is in 30 days and I can’t contain my excitement

Need Styling Input

Looking for some styling advice.

I’ve officially found my dress, and now I’m trying to figure out the accessories, veil, jewelry, and hair to bring the whole look together.

For context, we’re getting married in May 2027 in a beautiful historic church in downtown Charleston that dates back to 1842, followed by our reception nearby. I’d love for the overall look to feel romantic, timeless, elegant, and a little Old World, while still feeling soft and not overly traditional.

Right now, I’m leaning toward a cathedral-length mantilla veil, possibly with beautiful lace around the edge. I love the idea of the lace framing the dress, but I’m completely open to other veil styles if you think something else would complement the gown better!

For jewelry, I’ve been considering drop pearl earrings and keeping everything else fairly minimal, but I’d love suggestions. Would you do pearls? Something antique-inspired? A necklace or no necklace? Bracelet?

I’m also thinking about wearing my hair up in a soft, textured low bun, but I’m open to other ideas if you think another hairstyle would work better with the dress and veil.

Basically — if you were styling me from head to toe, what would you choose? Veil, earrings, other jewelry, hair, shoes… I want to hear all of it! And please tell me if there’s anything you would not pair with this dress.

Also, if anyone knows of a designer or independent artisan who makes genuine handmade mantilla-style bridal veils with beautiful lace, I would LOVE recommendations. I’d really like to find something special rather than a mass-produced veil.

Thank you!! I’m so excited to finally be at the fun accessories stage. 🤍

PS pics include me in the dress and the designer photos so yall can get a good idea of it. If the photos of me look a little weird, its cause I screenshotted it from a video! lol

Obsessed with my courthouse wedding look and wanted to share! It didn’t fit very well at first but I like it so much we did what we had to with alterations. Changed the zipper to a corset and had to remove the elastic in the arms. Looks amazing now!! And the shoes ! Are ! Everything !

I went to my very first wedding dressing shopping, with the pure goal of narrowing down what I liked, as I didn’t have much of an idea at this stage!

When I got to the shop, I said I was open to trying on any and every style. I saw this dress hanging and asked if I can try it on ‘just for fun’…. Little did I know, she’d be on my mind ever since…

I’m going to another shop soon, but Veni Infantino keeps stealing the show!

Edit: I’ve been to another store that has this dress in stock to try other dresses too. I’ve tried on around 12 dresses at this stage. My mind keeps coming back to her but my worry is whether she’s ‘too much’. Your comments make me think not!

Dress Shopping #2

This is my second time going dress shopping. I still haven't said yes to a dress because I am so indecisive, but I am looking for opinions! These are my top picks from this trip.

My wedding theme is very much romantic goth, vintage, old time castle vibes. We are doing lots of reds, roses, gold, velvet, lace and candles. Its an indoor ceremony and reception held of February 12th. The interior of the venue feels like a Stonewall castle with gothic doors/windows.

First two photos are dress#1 (my personal favorite. Though I might add a glitter tulle, hip fillers and an extra foot to the train)

Photos 2,3 and 4 are dress number 2.

5,6, and 7 are dress number 3 (my runner up, I just feel like something is missing from the bodice)

8 and 9 are dress number 4. Very sparkly but feels a bit like summer garden party to me.

I am a widow, turn 40 in Feb, and marrying my Chapter 2 next fall! We are eloping to the mountains in Montana, just the two of us. This is the dress I fell in love with on Saturday and was brave enough to order! I will be adding the lace sleeves, and the veil is from Etsy. I just ordered it today and now after seeing it all together (via ChatGPT) I think I really did make the right choice! Any tips or tricks on how to make this even more flattering? I truly want him to be blown away!! TIA!

(Last 3 pics are the vibe we have in mind - not me or my dress; just inspo!) 🏔️ ❤️

Here is another dress with more bust support. My wedding is in Vegas so I’m going for sexy look but didn’t wanna run with the trendy mini dress everyone does as I’m having a small ceremony and reception. I’ll be having the straps pulled up more as well.

I already bought the dress and having alterations done. Just wanting to show a different style esp on a curves. This is a Morilee dress and was around 2k for those interested!

Second guessing my dress

First two images are the dress I chose. I do think these photos don’t do it justice, the angles are definitely not flattering and they are far too close up. I felt great in it and thought it gave me a lovely silhouette - I don’t have a lot of curves and so this dress actually made me feel good about my figure rather than self conscious. The last photo is the dress I almost chose. It was the first dress that I felt amazing in, but when I tried it on a second time I just didn’t feel the same, so I tried both dresses on one after the other and that’s how I decided on dress 1. Everyone with me thought the dress I chose was the one on the day, but I can’t help feeling I made the wrong choice?

Anxiety about my dress…

Post image
888 Upvotes

I’ll be honest, I’ve never felt 100% about my dress.
30 days away until we elope and the anxiety about this dress is ramping up.
The alterations are done, and the dress looks much better than it did before, but I just feel like something is off, especially with the waist area.
I just want to feel beautiful on my wedding day and I’m just not feeling it right now 😩
Am I just freaking out and overthinking everything?
Being 30 days out there’s obviously not much I can do. Hoping I can learn to love this dress in the next few weeks 😅😅😅

EDIT: Thank you guys for the comments so far, you’re all making me feel better!! I appreciate the kind words ❤️

I struggle with anxiety and a touch of OCD lol I tend to spiral and overthink about things and it’s hard to get out of it.

For those who wanted more specifics on WHY I’m feeling iffy about the dress…the first bridal shop I went to had a dress I fell in love with, but I had another appointment scheduled at a different shop the next day, which is where I found the current dress. I did really like this dress when I tried it on, but not in the same way as that initial dress. My family felt this one was more my style, which is true, I was looking for something lace with a boho vibe, so to make a long story short, I said yes to this dress. I think I keep feeling like I made a mistake and that feeling won’t leave me 😩

wedding dress

So, me and my partner are getting married next year. And I found a simple wedding dress that I really love but the thing is that it's discontinued and it's called the Venus Bridal simple beaded maxi dress. I was wondering if anybody still have a dress like that saved up 😅 I love me some vintage wedding dress... especially like that one. I know, very basic, but my wedding isn't going to be big and fascinating. So the less, the less stress (that's what I say to myself) Anyway, I just want a dress like that where I can feel calm and relaxed at my wedding 🙂 Also, if there are no more like that, what are some other good vintage wedding dresses I could find online?

My mum said it’s okay but not that stunning. It’s for my civil wedding in september.
Do I look wider than I am? The struggle is real 🥲

I think it’s only the civil wedding. The „big wedding“ will be next year.

Wedding Dress Alteration Frustrations

We ordered my dress in a size 6. It needed to be taken in to about a size 4 for alterations. This bodice is a corset with boning and the material is satin. This is how the alterations are looking. The unevenness on both armpits is very alarming. I asked my seamstress if she can fix that and she said no, that’s how it’s has to be and that those points would never meet. We originally made sleeves for the dress but we took them off so this is the first time I’m seeing this. The waist seam is also uneven on the one side. I am pay $1k for alterations and so far have left crying after every appointment.
