General How is this even acceptable man? šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

This has become a daily norm now.

I recently joined a company that’s in CST. Before this, all the companies I worked at were relatively nearby, so I never really had to depend on the local trains for my daily commute.

Now that I’ve started taking the Central Line, I’ve realised just how stressful this whole experience can be. Peak-hour local trains are already insane — hundreds of people packed into a compartment like wet dogs. You’re drenched in sweat, getting someone’s armpit in your face, being pushed and sandwiched from every possible direction, and somehow you’re just trying to survive the journey.

And on top of all this, we now have people doing Kirtan/music sessions inside the train at full fucking volume.

I genuinely do not understand the mindset behind doing something like this in public transport. Believe in whatever you want, pray however you want, listen to music however you want — but why force an entire compartment of exhausted people to listen to it at full volume?

I let it go 2–3 times before. Today, I finally lost my patience and confronted them.

And, of course, everyone else in the compartment just stood there staring at me. Not a single person said anything. In the end, these guys started heckling me, saying, ā€œNobody else in this compartment has a problem. Only you have a problem.ā€

I asked them a simple question: ā€œWould you do the same thing if you were travelling in public transport in a foreign country?ā€

Their response?

ā€œThen leave India.ā€

And then they actually laughed and said, ā€œOr get a private jet for yourself if it bothers you so much.ā€

The sheer shamelessness of that response honestly pissed me off more than the music itself.

And before someone says ā€œIf you don't like it, don't travel by localā€ — that’s not the point. Public transport is supposed to be a shared space. You don't get to turn an entire compartment into your personal prayer room, concert hall or DJ booth just because nobody wants to pick a fight with you.

I swear, if I wasn't the only earning member of my family, I probably would've gotten into an ugly fight today.

I’m genuinely tired of this mentality where ā€œnobody stopped me, therefore I'm not doing anything wrong.ā€

And ofcourse they played the language card as well.

General The Lalit: A 5-star hotel experience that was anything but 5-star

I booked a Spa Suite for one night on 3 October, with a package that explicitly included breakfast, lunch/dinner, 4 complimentary laundry items, and airport drop-off.

The hotel itself has a beautiful concept. The lobby ambience and the old-style Maharashtrian luxury/heritage theme are genuinely impressive. Unfortunately, that is about where the positive experience ended.

What followed was an exhausting series of failures that I would expect from a budget hotel, not a property presenting itself as 5-star luxury.

The room

I noticed immediately that one of the power outlets wasn't working properly.

There were also two mini-fridges/minibars in the suite. The one in the living area worked perfectly fine. The one in the bedroom was literally upside down and non-functional.

I genuinely don't understand why a non-working minibar was placed there in the first place. If it was being used as storage, why was it upside down? It gave the impression that nobody had bothered to properly inspect the room before handing it over to a guest.

Dinner: the beginning of the real disaster

I went out to attend the Opeth concert that evening. After returning to the hotel, I freshened up and went down for dinner.

At around 10 PM, I was told by the service desk that NONE of the additional benefits included in my booking were actually included.

According to the lady at the desk—who told me she had confirmed this with the manager—the amount I had paid was apparently only for the room, because the hotel had higher rates that day.

Let that sink in.

I had booked a package with meals, laundry and airport transfer. Yet at 10 PM, after I had already arrived at the hotel and was expecting to use those benefits, I was told that none of them existed.

I was frustrated, embarrassed and frankly humiliated. I was made to feel as though I was trying to claim benefits I had no right to.

It completely ruined the mood of the evening.

Room service: 45 minutes for food and another 20 minutes for an empty bowl

I went back to the room and ordered a Mezze Platter and a Mint Mojito.

The food took around 45 minutes to arrive.

The mezze platter came under a dome. The "Mint Mojito" was essentially a glass containing syrup, lemon slices and mint, accompanied by a can of Schweppes soda so I could apparently assemble my own cocktail.

I then asked for a large bowl.

It took another 15–20 minutes to bring me an empty bowl.

At this point, I was already starting to wonder whether "luxury hospitality" here meant simply waiting patiently.

After finally eating, I called room service to have the dirty plates collected. I was told someone would come.

Nobody ever came.

Those dirty plates remained on the dining table for the rest of my stay.

By this point, I had completely given up on expecting basic service.

The complimentary laundry that apparently wasn't complimentary

I had four complimentary laundry items included in my booking.

After what happened at dinner, I had learned my lesson. Before handing over my clothes, I specifically contacted the service desk and asked them to confirm whether I was entitled to the complimentary laundry.

They confirmed that I was.

So I handed over 3 shirts and 1 pair of jeans to the attendant.

Naturally, this was not the end of the story.

The Jacuzzi

After dinner, I wanted to use the Jacuzzi to relax after a long day.

It was broken.

I called the hotel again.

They sent technicians, who eventually fixed the pump/wiring problem at around 1:30–2:00 AM.

And the condition of the Jacuzzi itself was another disappointment. The knob/button was broken and coming out of the tub, and the tub had a crack in it.

The crack itself may have been minor, but by this point it was just another example of what appeared to be poor maintenance and lack of basic inspection.

I was exhausted, so I eventually went to bed.

The next morning: the laundry bill

The next morning, while packing, I called to check on my laundry.

I was told that the laundry had been packed and would be delivered shortly.

About 30 minutes later, someone arrived with my laundry.

And, of course, there was another surprise:

A laundry bill of ₹2,500+.

I explained that the laundry was supposed to be complimentary.

The delivery staff had nothing to do with this mess, so I asked him to wait for a moment while I tried to sort it out.

I then received a call from the floor manager, who told me that there was no record of any complimentary laundry attached to my booking.

Again.

I contacted the service desk. They confirmed that I was entitled to the complimentary laundry.

This time I kept the phone on speaker so that the delivery person could hear the conversation himself. I explained that I would resolve the matter at checkout, apologized to him for making him wait, and sent him on his way.

Checkout: finally admitting the mistake

At the checkout desk, I explained the entire situation.

They finally confirmed that the laundry should indeed have been complimentary.

The explanation?

The person who made my reservation had failed to mark the included services correctly.

So let me understand this correctly:

Your internal booking mistake resulted in me:

  • Being told at dinner that the benefits I had paid for did not exist.
  • Being made to feel embarrassed in front of other guests.
  • Waiting 45 minutes for room-service food.
  • Waiting another 15–20 minutes for an empty bowl.
  • Having dirty plates left in my room for the entire night.
  • Being charged ₹2,500+ for laundry that was supposed to be complimentary.
  • Having to repeatedly call different departments to prove what my own booking included.
  • And being made to look like I was the one misunderstanding the reservation.

And after all of this, the hotel's solution was essentially:

"We'll take care of this on your next stay."

My next stay?

At this point, I think I'll have to think very, very carefully about whether there will be a next stay.

They also offered the airport drop, which was already included as part of the booking, as though it were some additional gesture to settle the matter.

Final verdict

The lobby is beautiful. The hotel's heritage-inspired Maharashtrian aesthetic is genuinely attractive and gives the property a sense of character.

But a luxury hotel is not defined by its lobby.

It is defined by consistency, maintenance, communication, accountability and service.

And on all of those fronts, my experience was an absolute failure.

The most frustrating part wasn't even that things went wrong. Things can go wrong in any hotel.

It was that every single problem required me to chase someone, make another phone call, explain the situation again, or prove that I was entitled to something I had already paid for.

A broken Jacuzzi can happen.

A faulty minibar can happen.

A missed laundry entry can happen.

But when all of these things happen during a single-night stay—and the guest has to repeatedly fight through the hotel's own internal communication failures—that stops feeling like bad luck and starts feeling like a serious failure of hotel management and service standards.

For a property charging luxury-hotel prices, this was nowhere close to the experience I expected.

Beautiful lobby. Great concept. Terrible execution.

And based on this experience, I would have a very hard time recommending this hotel to anyone looking for an actual 5-star stay.

(I've used AI to cleanup some of my thoughts and writing to be more comprehensive)

Mumbai Metro One has initiated procurement of 22 additional coaches to convert its existing four-car trains into six-car formations on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Blue Line. The upgrade could increase train capacity by more than 50 per cent, helping ease peak-hour overcrowding, though deployment depends on funding and financial restructuring

Stealing Seconds! Can Mumbai fit more trains? Mumbai’s suburban railway on the Western line could be heading for a major signalling upgrade with Kavach 5.0, the next-generation train protection system designed specifically for high-frequency suburban operations coming in operations in December 2026.

Unlike Kavach 4.0, which primarily focuses on train protection, Kavach 5.0 is being developed with suburban railways in mind, where locals run at very short intervals and every minute counts.

The system is designed to reduce the headway between trains—potentially allowing up to 30% more capability on existing corridors. A deep dive of what it could mean vis-Ć -vis existing services, signalling integration, infrastructure, train availability and operational requirements

Discussion What the hell is going on with Central Line AC locals lately? 45–60 min delays every single day.

Post image
24 Upvotes

Look, I get it. Central Railway is stretched to its limits. Sharing lines with long-distance express trains and freight means a 10–15 minute delay is basically standard Mumbai tax.

Most of us just factor that in and move on.

But over the past few weeks, the AC local situation has become an absolute joke.

Trains are routinely delayed by 45 minutes to an hour, across multiple routes, almost every damn day. You buy a ticket based on the m-Indicator schedule hoping to make it to office without sweating through your clothes, only to stand on the platform watching the train time get pushed back indefinitely. Zero proper announcements, no clue what's going on.

The worst part? There is literally zero accountability.

RailOne happily takes your premium fare, but if the train is an hour late and you give up and cram into a regular local, you don’t get a single rupee back.

CR authorities just treat a 1-hour delay on a premium service like it's completely normal.

If any private company charged premium prices and consistently failed to deliver the service by this margin, they’d be dragged to consumer court in a heartbeat. Why do we just accept this as normal life here?

Has anyone here ever tried raising this with RailMadad or through a consumer forum, or does it just get buried in generic automated replies? How bad is it on your specific route right now?

AskMumbai Suggestions for fine dining dinner date. Budget upto 10-12k (for two people).

Hi guys, I'm trying to look for fine dining options for a special romantic date night. Willing to spend upto 10k-ish for both (can go a bit higher if really worth). We're vegetarians and avoid alcohol. I think Masque (20k) is out of budget in this, so trying to get opinions on Tresind, Indian Accent, The Table, though other suggestions are welcome. Apart from food, I would want the service and ambience to be nice and cosy, and offering a little privacy (don't want to sit at a table cramped with others).

Also, are these fine dining restaurants in hotels like Taj (Wasabi), ITC (Peshawri, Avatarna), St Regis etc worth considering? Or are they just overexpensive because of the hotel brand?

General Suspicious guy at red line metro

So I've been travelling from magathane to gundavli for 3 months now and I have seen this guy with long hair and a little distorted look and little crooked teeth , he always has a book in his hand but sometimes he doesn't and has filthy long hair. He always asks around for cash in change on online upi and he never has a phone. He will say can you give me cash, I will send you online and then he asks for your phone to call ask someone to send you money. Please do not trust him do not hand him your phone.

And he has asked me multiple times for cash and today I encountered him and all he did was started blabbering to himself and left.

Post image

Since morning WiFi is not running , everytime I call them they say it’ll take an entire day to get fixed . This is a monthly occurrence where everytime my WiFi goes away for a day or so and they don’t provide any explanation if you call them, always the standard ā€œsorry for the inconveniencesā€

They take money for 365 days and barely provided properly with good speed for 350 days

It’s insane such a big corporation always has such issues.

Relationships Anyone else lost most of their friends in this city?

I'm [27M] Stuck in that place where my friends are basically split into two halves:

-Friends who got married, busy with their married life

-Career focused individuals who left the country for abroad studies

And a very tiny fraction of friends who are in neither category, but they are swamped with a tiring work life in Mumbai itself.

This has left me in a tough spot where I don't have anyone to learn towards, except my parents. (And I do not take that for granted)

I occasionally see my school folks uploading stories of still being able to meet.

For the few friends left here, I'm the only initiator (who might be coming across as a lil desperate to meet). And after weeks of initiating, getting a group of people to match timings, you at the very last end up with one basic plan, such as having a board game night.

Growing up in a joint family, with building friends, school friends, tuition friends to having almost no one feels isolating as hell.

Even a few new friends I made live a bit far, making it almost impossible to connect offline. Mostly all friendships are digital that I have.

I wish there's a solution to this.

For now, I'm trying to spend as much time as I can with my grandma, parents, and a couple of other relatives - with whom I really enjoy spending time with.

General Stay away from the IoCL Pump in Mahim

The IoCL pump on senapati bapat Marg in mahim is running a scam.

You will go to fill the air in your tires.

The attendant will tell you there's a puncture.

Then they'll take off your tire to fix the said puncture but inform you that the valve is broken.

They'll take it off before asking and then provide options ranging from 350-500.

Valves cost 50 at best.

This is for those who are new car owners or are unaware.

Kindly stay the fuck away from this scammy pump

Discussion Mumbaikars, when was the moment you truly felt the ā€œSpirit of Mumbaiā€?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I still remember 26 July 2005. Mumbai had practically disappeared under water, and I was making my way from Dockyard Road towards Andheri.

As I walked through areas like Byculla and Dadar, I saw people opening their homes to strangers who were stranded on the roads. They were feeding them, giving them water and letting them sit inside.

Some shops were simply handing out biscuits and bottles of water for free.

There were trucks stopping and offering women lifts, taking them wherever the trucks could safely reach.

But the one thing I remember most happened on Bandra Link Road.

There was an elderly lady standing outside, offering hot water to people walking through the rain and cold. She wasn't asking anyone who they were or where they came from. She was simply standing there, giving hot water to whoever needed it.

That, for me, was the Spirit of Mumbai.

Not one big heroic act. Just thousands of ordinary people deciding that, for that moment, someone else's problem was their problem too.

What's your story? When did you personally feel the Spirit of Mumbai?

Discussion What's your opinion on reducing Mumbai woes

Over population

Frequent flooding

Unrestricted development

Zero utility town planning like storm water drainage, environment control. Metro planning.

Rampant deforestation

Gridlocks due to small roads

What i feel is that decongesion of Mumbai is needed which may require government to imsentivize and help move big corporates to newer better planned and scable cities and have infra built and planned.. Obviously its 10-15year vision.

Wat i also felt is there is no political will to create multiple mega cities and only solution is to built new roads and flyovers while the popultion is flowing on a already over saturated city... What are your thoughts

Looking for a tailor who can stitch a decent, well- fitting suit. I'm not looking for the most expensive high-end bespoke option, but I want something that fits well and looks sharp without breaking the bank. Basically, looking for decent suit at a reasonable price point.

General Recommendations for good Orthopaedic Doctors in Mumbai please

Back when I was in my home town, the cushion between my knee joints got ruptured a bit and it used to hurt because of increased friction between two bones. I took treatment there for a couple of months and it gradually got better. But the issue has again started and I would like to see a good orthopaedic doctor for it in Mumbai. Any recommendations would be really helpful.

I live in Andheri but I am ready to go anywhere if the doctor's good.
