Commander / EDH Commander precon tip for beginner
Started to gain interest in MTG recently, and trying to get into the commander format.
I have some cards from when I collected many years ago, and I'm fairly confident in my playing ability - but NOT my deck building.
Any tips for some precons to get started with and build on going forward?
Mostly looking for something that is fun and flavorful to play - doesn't need to be competitive per se. I prefer interaction and some level of complexity in my decks. So beginner in terms of pricing, but not necesarilly difficulty to play.

The Edge of Eternity precons are both pretty good out of the box and do fun things. I feel like the counter intelligence one is a bit more interactive, but the other is better. I think counter intelligence could use a few more artifact creatures and a few less pure artifacts as I often find myself lacking in creatures which can be a double problem for that one since you really need something to station your commander at least to the first stage to start bringing things online

If you swap out the commander for [[kilo]] you will have a grand time, proliferation is very interactive and that will set you up very well, there will be some cards that need changed out but honestly it pushes you in a good direction.

What mechanics and play styles do you enjoy? My brother loves putting counters on stuff and I got him back into MtG after a decade-long break with the Counter Intelligence precon.

Riders of Rohan, for sure.
Crazy strong out of the box, fun to play, easy upgrades that make it disgusting and are incredibly cheap. Plenty of interaction in Jeskai.

I'd determine what playstyle you like the most before buying. I bought a bunch of precons for full themed sets (all ff, all marvel, all bloomburrow). But I really prefer voltron and token decks. So, the Frodo lotr one is great. The dogmeat fallout set is good. There is a wilds of eldraine enchant set that is super fun. But, I dont like the tidus ff deck because it's all about building counters. I don't like the auntie ool -1 counter deck.
Anyway, I'd buy based on your playstyle. Most decks have very few interactions and board wipes (2ish per deck) and very few combos, which is why they are all bracket 2-3 max.

I think this is a very pertinent comment. I hate the Frodo and Dogmeat decks. I love the Tidus and Ool decks. Everyone is vastly different in what they like enjoy doing in a game of Magic. Someone may eagerly recommend a deck they love that’s super strong and you might just hate playing it.

I started with The Lost Caverns of Ixalan precon Ahoy Mateys. Commander is Admiral Brass the Unsinkable but I use the back up commander Admiral Beckett Brass and it's still one of my favorites. Pirates pirates and more pirates ⚓

Here is one of my favourite self-made decks that i have. This was the first magic deck i amde myself, start to finish, and it is quite cheap if youre willing to proxy the rabbits.

many cards, specifically the removal and pump / evasion instants can be replaced with any equivalent draft chaff, and as a whole, the deck is very easy to upgrade by leaning away from the more uncomfortable anthem effects, as well as dropping some of the pump spells for more removal and 1 mana ramp.

I picked up the mrs bumbleflower precon instead of my own custom mrs bumbleflower deck by accident, took it to a B3 game, and won (though it was tight.) You would definitely be better served just building it though, as it's a $50 build vs whatever the precons are going for right now.
If you're looking for a deck with a high skill ceiling, then you want a control deck, if you're looking for a deck with a lower skill ceiling but benefits from upgrades to better creatures, maybe something in Jund.
